    interesting experiment for germination, good to know- they prefer higher moisture levels. I also have to add my opinion that don't think it's necessary to use hydrogen peroxide or bleach on the seeds, especially if you are not sterilizing the media also. it really isn't even necessary to remove the fruit at all, they germinate fine in nature. I live in south FL and foxtail palm seeds will germinate exactly where they fall without any intervention. I actually wonder if the fermenting fruit doesn't actually help the seed germinate as I have noticed anecdotally with papaya.

    Just some additional information I found on the web, just to add to this great video. I would recommend the solution with hydrogen peroxide vs. the bleach though as mentioned below. See you guys in 5 months! LOL
    Bright red foxtail palm fruit, about the size of small tomatoes, grow in large clusters, with a single seed in each mature fruit. Picking foxtail palm seeds is best when the seeds are unblemished and overripe, as very ripe seeds are more likely to germinate. Soak the seeds in warm water for 48 to 72 hours to loosen the pulp. Change the water daily. Discard any seeds that float to the top and keep the ones that sink to the bottom. Floating seeds lack an endosperm and will not germinate. Rinse the seeds to remove any remaining pulp, then dip them in a solution of one part bleach to ten parts water. Rinse thoroughly. At this point, it’s necessary to scarify, or rough up the seeds, which mimics the natural course of events when seeds drop from high in the tree. To scarify the seeds, rub them gently with sandpaper or a file, or nick the outer coating with the tip of a knife. Don’t apply too much pressure. Plant the seeds in your garden immediately, as foxtail palm seeds don’t store well. The fresher, the better. Alternatively, you can propagate a foxtail palm indoors.

    Thanks man, hospital trimmed palms and left the fruits all over the ground. Had to scoop up a few and wasn’t sure how to extract the seeds safely.
    Have you tried growing them still in the fruit outdoors? Feel like natural process might expedite things if no critters tamper with them.

    • @TheOutdoorsDaddy
      @TheOutdoorsDaddy  2 роки тому

      Negative I have not tried natural method although they would sprout at base of tree but I don’t think there is any expedite method due to the shell being very hard. Just takes times. Put a bunch up in peat and kinda forget about them.

    • @TheOutdoorsDaddy
      @TheOutdoorsDaddy  2 роки тому

      It’s easier to remove the flesh when they are the reddish/orange color. Also this is how it happens naturally they fall off then sprout in the ground.
