So when it comes to performing lat pulldowns, there are actually 3 different techniques that you can utilize in order to bias different muscles of the back. First, in order to bias the lats, you want to keep a nice upright posture with very little back and forth movement, and control the way down with a 1-2 second pause at the bottom. Think of driving your elbows down and into your sides and only raise your arms up until your lats are stretched. Because as soon as you extend your shoulders like this, you are now working much more of the mid and upper back as you can see in this second technique. Here we are much more explosive, using a bit more back and forth movement, without any pause at the bottom. For this technique, think of driving your elbows as far down as possible, while puffing up your chest to retract your scapula. And, to work even more of your upper back, simply utilize a bit more swing to turn this into more of a row, ideally with a little bit more control than I was using here, I was just getting pretty fatigued, and really let your back fully stretch out at the top with a super large range of motion.

About Me: I started lifting at 17 years old in 2019, the summer before I entered my freshman year of college. I was a mere 120 pounds at 5'8, and my only goal was to gain weight. Since then I've bulked 5 times, reaching my heaviest at 206 pounds, and cut 4 times to a lowest of around 10% bodyfat. In 2025 I plan to compete in my first natural bodubuilding show. Using the knowledge I have acquired and continue to learn, my goal is to help all of you achieve your fitness goals and prove that no matter what stands in your way, hard work and consistency will always prevail! 4th technique: rip the weight down as hard as possible, using 90% lower back, glutes and hamstrings, 0 second negative, repeat until mild discomfort, letting the weight slam on the final rep and pull you out of the seat, onto your feet.
Superset that with side chest pose in the mirror
pf ahh technique
Also gotta grunt so everyone turns around to look so they know you mean business
Don't forget the pump in your forearms and biceps for some reason 💀

What I appreciate about Mike is that he talks about the cons of Goggins training to help viewers while not hating on his training.
When I let my arms go all the way up like in the second technique, I feel it tons in my lats
If you have to do a pull down just to work your upper back, you might as well spare the trouble and simply do a row. And no, letting your scapulae move doesn't deactivate the lats, I don't know where did this come from
Wrong. As long as your elbows pointing toward the hips ita more of lat growth biomechanically. However, the recent study found that rows provide better activation for both lats and traps than lat pull downs. So as for lat pull downs the best way to perform them is to controllingly pull the way down slightly leaning back and control the way down until your pats are complwtly stretched
Yo Max, post a glut spread
Glute spread when
Your lats are working which ever way you do it. When did such a basic exercise become so complicated? 😂
Facts
I think it’s more about the angle of the pull in relation to your body that biases the upper back vs lat muscles
@@guesswhoami4723 You can’t bias upper back on Pulldowns, unless your torso is in parallel with the floor but I hardly believe anyone is doing them like that. It is literally as the main comment said, you either do frontal plane for lower lat or sagittal plane for more upper division of the lat.
@@guesswhoami4723 ur overthinking it
Lol right. If you wanna work the upper back just do rows. Fitness isn’t complicated
It’s called lat pulldown because it’s supposed to target your lats mostly. There is no 3 different ways. There is only one way
My favorite lat pull down technique is doing pull ups instead, works great.
4th technique: front lever style pulldowns

are lenghtened partials optimal for hypertrophy when it comes to jelqing
Why do you pause for lat bias but don’t for scapula retraction? I understand how the technique changes the focus, but why do you make a distinction with the tempo as well?
Okeeey
Damn he lookin thicccc asf didn’t even know it was him at first
What app are you using for workout and nutrition tracker ?
In my gym the weight stack of the pull down machine hits before I can even stretch the lats. What can I do about it?
I only feel my upper back squeezes really hard when at the peak concentric of lat pulldown, am I supposed to feel my lats being streched throughout the movement?
does the grip matter max? ie normal overhand or neutral grip or single hand
How is he not sweating at the gym 😭
Triceps?
This video needs editing, are you talking about how to just target your lats or to target your upper back? If thats case it should’ve been separate videos
Short king? How tall is he?
5'8
That's not even short dawg that's average
Noti gang
How do you bias none? Equal tension/bias on every back muscle?
The second technique is pretty evenly distributed

best way to lat pulldowns: just do pullups
