    So when it comes to performing lat pulldowns, there are actually 3 different techniques that you can utilize in order to bias different muscles of the back. First, in order to bias the lats, you want to keep a nice upright posture with very little back and forth movement, and control the way down with a 1-2 second pause at the bottom. Think of driving your elbows down and into your sides and only raise your arms up until your lats are stretched. Because as soon as you extend your shoulders like this, you are now working much more of the mid and upper back as you can see in this second technique. Here we are much more explosive, using a bit more back and forth movement, without any pause at the bottom. For this technique, think of driving your elbows as far down as possible, while puffing up your chest to retract your scapula. And, to work even more of your upper back, simply utilize a bit more swing to turn this into more of a row, ideally with a little bit more control than I was using here, I was just getting pretty fatigued, and really let your back fully stretch out at the top with a super large range of motion.

    About Me: I started lifting at 17 years old in 2019, the summer before I entered my freshman year of college. I was a mere 120 pounds at 5'8, and my only goal was to gain weight. Since then I've bulked 5 times, reaching my heaviest at 206 pounds, and cut 4 times to a lowest of around 10% bodyfat. In 2025 I plan to compete in my first natural bodubuilding show. Using the knowledge I have acquired and continue to learn, my goal is to help all of you achieve your fitness goals and prove that no matter what stands in your way, hard work and consistency will always prevail! 4th technique: rip the weight down as hard as possible, using 90% lower back, glutes and hamstrings, 0 second negative, repeat until mild discomfort, letting the weight slam on the final rep and pull you out of the seat, onto your feet.

    If you have to do a pull down just to work your upper back, you might as well spare the trouble and simply do a row. And no, letting your scapulae move doesn't deactivate the lats, I don't know where did this come from

  • @phd_phd
    @phd_phd 23 дні тому +2

    Wrong. As long as your elbows pointing toward the hips ita more of lat growth biomechanically. However, the recent study found that rows provide better activation for both lats and traps than lat pull downs. So as for lat pull downs the best way to perform them is to controllingly pull the way down slightly leaning back and control the way down until your pats are complwtly stretched

      @@guesswhoami4723 You can’t bias upper back on Pulldowns, unless your torso is in parallel with the floor but I hardly believe anyone is doing them like that. It is literally as the main comment said, you either do frontal plane for lower lat or sagittal plane for more upper division of the lat.
