new research = new conclusion with the now more abundance of research saying the stretch part of the movement is the most important for muscle growth, that even doing just the stretch part can sometimes be better, it make sense to modify the exercise to have more tension in the stretch part
Leaning in is better with dumbbells for the reasons he just showed, leaning out is better for cable because it evens the resistance across the range of the rep
Lifting for most my life, yet never had much shoulder growth. Now, by deemphasizing shoulder press and overemphasizing lateral raise with the lean-in variation as well as cables, I'm seeing noticeable gains at 49 years old. Thank you Jeff! Keep it up!
True. I still feel like the other leaning variation is better cause it hits more of the delt at 90 degrees. He's right in that you can't really cheat his way.
I started working out this year because I became a dad. Needed muscle to haul a kid around. Never been strong. Jeff and Mike are the first two that gave me guidance leading to real gains. I have never seen growth like this before.

Yh I’ve learned some invaluable tips from Jeff. The hand height cable raises and using the using the rear delt machine but with one facing the side, both have had incredible effects on growth
This video really helped clarify the technique for lateral raises. I always thought leaning away was the way to go, but leaning in makes so much sense for targeting the side delts.
I love the fact that the tension under a deep stretch is making such a huge emergence in the lifting world. I lifted as teen without proper technique and eccentric control for years. Im 27, back into it, and doing controlled bottom stretch form has left me WITHOUT shoulder or knee pains like i had before. Education = gains

Are people criticizing him ? Really all the progress I have with my upper body is thanks to his sciences basic tips and very well explained videos. I'm 60 years old , soooooo.
OK you wanna know and I'll tell you why Jeff's tips are not ideal, he classify himself as a science based content creator, but this tips are almost always draw from experience, and more his personal experience, take this lateral raise as example, that little angle on the bottom DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL, because at that angle your side delts simply doesn't work to support the weight on your arm, yes you and create some tension leaning sideways, but why? That's just some old time pump chasing, which does not add any mechanical tension only adding a tiny bit more metabolic stress, for normal people that will not give you gains, unless you are enhanced, but then Jeff is not enhanced he is natural. You got results because you worked hard, this is what working out like, even if you do it the "wrong" way you will still get better, does not mean tips you followed did wonder, you did wonders to yourself. And if you really value science bases tips, go see RP, a far better arsenal of knowledge.
@therocklau I strongly believe tgat working hard it's absolutely necessary to get good results, however a proper form and good technique are the key . How you can do it wrong and get the results you want , when may you will be working in different muscles.
With cables you don't need to lean at all. The cable positioning is important. Adjusting to have the pulley right where your hand naturally rests at your side is the best for tension in the stretched position.
@@DuncanL7979I can attest to this, I have been doing rear fly and latter raises like Jeff said and I have seen more gains and better feelings on my lifts all around

Personally never enjoyed it. I call them lu raises. But i have to reduce the load quite a bit in order to do the top part. Which isn’t much side delts anyway.
