No New Sonic Game Until 2022! And That's Ok...

- According to a new advert put out by Sega, there will not be a new Sonic game this year. The next new Sonic game will be released in 2022 to tie in with the release of the Sonic Movie 2, the Sonic Netflix TV Show and other product launches.
And I'm honestly ok with that.

No I don't like or want to make cheap 'news' videos like this, I'd much rather work on 'proper' videos but... Needs must.
Bummer i just hope the games good bcuz they made us wait so much lol
I think what people are annoyed with is not that it's delayed, but the fact we learned this from third parties and not SEGA (like on Twitter, FB or other media). Sorry man, I think your opinion isn't very popular, but that's okay, we don't gotta share opinions. Still love your content
@@superpiktwo5933 yea i see wht ur saying its like sega is scared to say anything to the fans. Its just sad
I would gladly have you giving out updates over someone like Prem. I think having small updates over the franchise like this alongside your big videos would be a great especially since most sonic fans cant really do much but wait.
I don’t even care if it comes out next year, I just want to know what the game actually is.

I wouldn’t take this as a confirmation of ‘no games’ until 2022. I think there’s something coming this year.
Probably the Sonic Colors remake
@@JimboAverage oh yeah i forgot about that one, I really hope they make a mix of the ds and wii version

I don't mind there being no game this year, but the fact that there's been no official details on it is what has me worried. That's what happened with Forces too, they didn't show much because if they did, that would've been the entire game 😂

Oh god I'm having second thoughts on pre-ordering Legends Arceus
Honestly, I'm not that disappointed by the release window, just knowing that we'll most likely be getting announcements soon is pretty nice.
I just need a trailer. I want to see the game and know if it's worth even caring about the games any more. My patience ran out when I first played forces. I don't care when it comes out I just want to feel positive about the games and their future again like I did in 2012.
Basically this, but less desperate. There's only so much the game can possibly suck after forces, and either way I can at least know the potential of the franchise will shine through other forms of media such as comics, shows and movies

@@oreogod3943 I think one of the failings of the more recent games is how Sonic is portrayed, sure he doesn't need to be the 'rude dude with the attitude' but he feels a bit watered down and bland compared to even the Adventure games (even though their voice acting could be a bit off at times) or Unleashed (where Jason Grifiths seemed to give his best performance as Sonic).

I guess my thoughts on this right now - expectations should be incredibly high if we're waiting 5 years.
I think the game will be either a big 30 years collection like mega collection OR a new sonic game with multiple playstyles and OPTIONAL boost and spindash or none at all
AAA games usually take around 5 years to make. This series has been pumping out games after games like crazy without giving it the proper time it needs to take.
This time frame is implying that they're actually taking their time for once so I'm with you on this one.
Wasn't 2021 supposed to be a BIG year for Sonic?!

It's ironic how people think games like 06 or Forces were rushed and needed more time... then they want the next Sonic game to release as soon as possible! Do people realize they're only going to make it worse?
4 years is plenty of time to make a AAA game. The development of Sonic Forces just had bad time management.
06 had a small development team because they were working on secret rings too
I see what you doing. We are still getting sonic games this year. He said no "new" sonic games. Ports or remasters are still in the cards and possible to happen.

Honestly, I don’t mind. I could care less about the Sonic fans crying about no new game, or the other portion claiming both Sonic and SEGA being dead, without taking into account the fact that the marketing for this year will increase recognition of the brand which will then greatly effect the sales of the next game. Also, 2022 will be loaded with Sonic content. A movie, A game and a new show. I don’t see why anyone would get mad at this?

me too, but i'll wait until summer, and i meant by waiting until summer i meant waiting to be disappointed and leave the sonic series.
I am also fine with this on the premise that the new big game is actually good. If we've waited for 5 years and the game is mediocre or even just okay, I'll be severely disappointed. I still want to see news about the game this year though, it's a similar situation to the 25th anniversary were we got trailers for Mania and Forces but they didn't release until the following. And just like that anniversary, I think we're gonna be getting smaller stuff like the Colors remaster and other things in that caliber (notice how they say "games" with an 'S') during the anniversary year itself, so this year, to tie us over for the big release next year. If this comes to fruition and the games are actually good, I can easily see this being Sonic's best anniversary year yet. We're getting the new game, a TV Show, and the Movie all in the same year which is a great marketing tactic by Sega and like you said, addresses the concern people had during the first movie back in 2020, having no game or comic tie-in to capitalize off of it.
I mean, Sonic mania and forces were released one year after sonic 25th anniversary
This could be a new tradition for Sega. Release the new games a year later after a milestone every 5 years.
@@GIJOEFAN-ys8gp that is dumb.
I expect a collection at least because this is the year of celebrating Sonic's legacy while next year we'll be getting all new content plus promotional image of all the games lends me to believe it.
0. I'm not disappointed at all, if anything I'm proud. I'm tired of this series having mediocre games mainly due to the fact that they're just rushed out. The series is filled with extremely skilled people working on it and while I am amazed that certain games can be made in such a short time and small amount of people, at the end of the day it isn't enough. The Sonic games that have been wowing me lately haven't been from the main team. Hell we've gotten to the point where they have to specifically state publicly that they're going to take their time with the next game. Do you know how embarrassing that is?
I hope that this time it will be different and will start to get Sonic back on his feet. We have amazing merch, amazing spin-offs, amazing comics and more amazing stuff but it's hard for all of the side content to stand up if our main course is mediocre at best.
Sonic is one of my favorite series of all time and even if the gameplay or the series takes a direction that I don't like, as long as people love it and it's good then I'm happy.

I kinda knew that a major Sonic game wouldn't release this year and that it would be in 2022, but it would be a shame if by that they meant ALL new releases will be in 2022 including Colours remastered.
Remember everyone, the last time SEGA rushed a Sonic game out in order to meet an anniversary deadline, we got Sonic 06. It’s okay if SEGA doesn’t make the anniversary deadline as long as it means that the developers are not in a time crunch and we get an overall superior product.
I agree, but try telling the sonic fans. They can be really annoying with expecting every 3 Year getting new sonic game.
Why? Is same like People complaining about bad Aaa gaming and expecting every year new game, buy though all complaining the Games.
Such Bad Management they don’t care about quality, time crunch and they all complaining. If Company still making huge money thought crunch, microtransaktion or sell same game over and over with different skins, would not change the business Modell.

It would be okay if we got more substantial things in between releases like DLC, and Spin offs (no TSR, and Encore mode aren't enough) if this series wants our trust they need to try. Porting the adventure games, and heroes to the newest generation would also help immensely. As consumers of this franchise we deserve more than a sub par racing spinoff, and a lackluster DLC for a 2D game that gives us only 2 charechter's, and pallet swaps of stages.

Just something so we can not only speculate and stuff, but just hype us up! If not...
well we got the sonic 2 movie so, it's not all bad. :D
Honestly I’m kinda glad. We wouldn’t want another Sonic Forces. Hopefully they use this time to plan ideas for the 2022 Sonic game.
For the reasons you mention it makes sense for them to wait until 2022 for the NEW game. If we get the Colors remaster this year then I’ll be satisfied. Frankly I’m happy about 2022 because it gives me a sliver of hope that there is still time to get the Sonic Mania team back together for a sequel. I’ve been semi-following what Stealth has been up to at Headcanon but does anyone know what Taxman’s been up to these last few years?
Can we get an updated statue or costume history? I just binged all the old ones and I know there is a lot more now. Plus I need something to do. Excited to see everything you have coming up!
I did a costume follow up not too long ago.
I guess a statue one is due...
I mean, this is pretty much what happened with Mania and Forces, right? If I remember correctly, the 25th anniversary was 2016, but both games were released 2017. Really, I’m just more concerned about what direction their taking the gameplay and storytelling now.
Whatever game it is, I'm just glad that they're taking their time.
I really hope that means they're taking extra care with developing it.
TBH I'm fine with the new game coming out in 2022, with Sonic Movie 2 and Sonic Prime coming out in 2022 and the game will coincide with both the Movie and the Netflix series which will help strengthen the brand.
I am more than okay with this. I do wish Sega would communicate this but, I am fine with waiting till next year for all the sonic goodness.
It is going to have been 5 YEARS since a mainline Sonic game happened. I’m glad they have more time to work on the new game, but as a result, I now expect an ADVENTURE/MANIA tier level game, but It makes me upset because I know that will not happen we are just going to get another shitty, lazy, half baked project like Forces with Classic Sonic slapped into it. My biggest problem is that it took them ONLY 2 YEARS to go from one of the worst Sonic games in 2006 to one of the best Sonic games in 2008 (Sonic 06 -> Sonic unleashed) so I know they are more than capable, especially considering we are in the year 2021 and we clearly have a lot more advanced technology since then and I am tired of all of the excuses. I know I just seem like a typical angry entitled Sonic fanboy, but I promise, I say all of this out of a place of love for the creators and franchise as a whole and I know they are capable. I’m hoping I will be proven wrong and my comment will age like shit, but no one knows the direction this franchise is heading so it’s really hard to tell, but I HOPE I am proven wrong.
Im not disappointed yet, I gotta see the final product first..
I don't mind waiting until 2022 so long as A: we get some info on the game this year, we know pretty much nothing about it right now, and B: the wait is actually worth it, we waited 4 years for Forces after Lost World and we all know how that game turned out.
I feel if we at least get some ports, I think some people will be fine. Like I feel like nows a great time to double down on game ports to help fans to wait for the next game
Whatever new Sonic game comes next we ought to make it a point to walk into it with low expectations
a 2022 release would not only work by being released concurently with sonic 2 as it would also give the devs more time to work on it
Sega said there are multiple new games coming, but this doesn't mean all the games are coming at the same time. In the past we used to have new Sonic games every year. Obviously they are going to release games next year to capitalize on the exposure the brand will have in 2022. But we still might have something smaller this year
*loads gun*good bye cruel world
I'm disappointed, sure... but I did expect this. I feel if Sega had a game to show us, they'd have showed it by now so... oh well. Hopefully when it DOES come out, it's a good game
I just care if they actually announce it
When do you think we'll get an announcement of the games then? June? This fall? January?
Understandable I rather have the unexpected to happen besides worrying the future like noting getting hype etc plus he's it makes sense because of his new Tv & the sequel of the Movie
Well I mean, we're getting Colors Ultimate this september. So that magazine is lying.
Sonic is doing a Mario , spending a lot of time to perfect the game
Let’s hope that’s the case. I hope this next game isn’t a disappointment like forces was.
This is the drumroll year. To get us hyped for 2022.
Its ok..if we get announcements and a port to tide us over. If the Colors remaster is in 2022 as well then its gonna be awful.
Sega tomorrow: No new Sonic game until 2029.
*YEAR OF SONIC, EVERYBODY. YEAR OF SONIC.*
As someone who really does look into the main production and development cycles of games, I'm honestly okay with this. I think it's a possibility that Colors Ultimate will release this year since that makes the most sense and then the mainline game next year. But considering the pandemic too and how it littearly caused a third of SEGA's lineup to be delayed last year to another year. I'm honestly okay with this. I dont get the people who will make artificial outrage out of this, mainly because they dont even know how actual game development goes and how much the pandemic affects game companies. And if anyone tries to pull the "but other companies are putting out games too", most of those games were in development YEARS before the pandemic hit and it still affected them in different ways. Every company and its structure is different.
My only fear that I have.. is that we will never get a new Sonic game... I feel like with the success of the movies and merchandise. Sega just pushed the games to the waste side, and that really sucks because I've been of fan of the games. not the movie and cartoons/merchandise.
There's nothing wrong a new Sonic game being in 2022, it would be better if the game was released in 2021 since it makes the most sense to be a 30th anniversary title. They're doing it to make the games bigger, longer and not rushed. I hope Sonic Team takes the next game seriously, we don't want it mediocre/bad like Sonic Forces.
I just hope it's not another forces situation where we see it and wait then it sucks
This is going to work out amazingly for sega. whether we like it our not, the 2022 release will be very good for the franchise as we have a movie and tv show coming out that same year. The game will be late for Sonics 30th anniversary which is very disheartening yes, but what we will be getting for the 31st anniversary will bring sonic back to a place we haven’t seen him in since the sonic x era
God, I hope this is just spotty wording. If we're stuck waiting until next year, that's half a decade without a new, mainline Sonic game. I support and appreciate giving the development team time to do their best work in a healthy manner, but we've been in the dark since TSR released. If Colours is the only thing coming out this year, it'd better have some new content at least to the level of Bowser's Fury.
No new sonic game in 2021? That’s okay, I can wait..
ive said this on countless videos, but 2022 is going to be the year of sonic
Yeah shame the 30th anniversary will probably only be anouncents

not surprised in the slightest in fact kinda happy about it because they have more development time to work on the game, sure the same thing happened with forces but they had to make the hedgehog engine 2 along with a brand new lighting engine for that but now both of those are already made so they should have been able to start work on the real game itself pretty fast but we'll see
i just hope the wait is worth it and the games are actually good instead of sucking like sonic forces
I’m guessing they will reveal the trailer of Sonic Prime and Sonic Colors Ultimate on the day of the anniversary
I think SEGA should do something like the BOTW dudes did. In that Direct they were like we got no BOTW 2 Updates, but here is SS HD to hold you over. Just give us a collection game or something. Not even upset about no new game this year. Everything SEGA talks about is related to movies, merch, toys and other stuff. It feels like the gaming sonic fans are just being ghosted. What SEGA should do is be like "hey the new game isn't ready, but here is a collection pack or *input* game to hold you over". I feel the heat would cool off if they did that.
like a 9 out of 10. This entire Decade of Sonic feels like a grand scale display of SEGA's incompetency to manage the brand. Whatever worked felt like a fluke, or entirely dependent on qualities separate from SEGA and Sonic Team. Every capitalization on success was made late, as if they were blindsided by the brand's success at every turn. And literally every product made by SEGA and Sonic Team themselves, (besides Generation, which is just barely squeaking in said Decade) has been a Mediocre to bad mess, reeking of incompetence, or slashed budgets. I know in the grand scheme of things, waiting another year is not the worst thing, but the experience of being a Sonic Fan right now has been empty and disappointing, nothing in a decade has been without some souring factor that undercuts whatever enjoyment can be wrought, some concern or uncertainty that spoils the mood. The only wholly genuine joy I've had in Sonic in the last 9 years was those first couple weeks of Mania being out, before Forces put all of Mania in a much more cynical perspective, and me going into the backlog and playing Sonic Rush Adventure for the first time, which in which I found the genuine joy and admiration, that had me fall in love in the series in the first place, again. I had, to play shit from last decade (no, 2 decades past technically) to just enjoy the character and world again. It's just such a dreary empty experience being with the franchise right now, everything feels so stagnant, almost hopeless. Nothing but promises and assurances of better times ahead, both from officials and the fans, for years, even when things happen, it goes right back to that status quo. Waiting for things to be better. I'm just so fucking tired.
That's alright but I'm just confused why they haven't announced anything yet. Mostly since they said there will be one next year...
me too, but i'll wait until summer, and i meant by waiting until summer i meant waiting to be disappointed and leave the sonic series.
I’m just gonna be patient
I just want a game trailer this year.
Guess ill die
And now we play the waiting game.
For the new game it makes sense, but at least announce a collection or something to accompany the wait
Not disappointed nor surprised. The leaks were bs from the beginning, and do to not wanting to saturate the market and the pandemic, I was thinking the game would be either late 2021 or sometime in 2022. This about lines up with what I thought.
Haha! This is the Sonic fan base! We’ll make our own Sonic game!
Haha, "unstoppable for generations".
