Many thanks Brian for making and sharing this video, it’s a truly remarkable engine build and I’ve been enjoying all of the details along the way, great achievement Brian, well done 😊👍
It's all precision machined so that every component is a tight "push fit" to be retained by each of their twin '0' rings.. Everything is machined and designed to fit pretty snug and secure... Watch from around 15:27 for a visual on this 👍 BG.
Thanks for the quick reply. Since nearly everything I own ends up developing some significant blow-by and crankcase pressure, I'd probably have to either thread it so it screws together or maybe some set screws. I really like all those Ti screws you use also. Is there any appreciable weight savings with them? Are you getting them in bulk or singular as needed? Thanks again. Waiiting eagerly for new episodes.
No I've never had such Crankcase pressure issues to I'm pretty confident with this component and my method of manufacture ..👍 Regarding the Ti bolts etc..? Well I tend to both make my own and buy individual selected ones as I go. My 05 ZRX has a significant amount of Ti versus this 01 build.. However stay tuned for another custom machined Ti upgrade for this 01 BG
They are "Muzzy block off plates".., long discontinued and extremely difficult to get any more... These ones I bought 2nd hand from a member on the ZRXOA forum a number of years ago and I had them in storage since then... BG.
My engine was completely dissasembled which made each section much more accessible. Only some sections of the Lower case half required some attention due to pain flaking etc.....,however I did opt to also refinish both the cylinder head and cylinder barrels.. Of course they were scrupulously cleaned and prepared prior to painting.. I used www.woolfe.uk/product/2-x-vht-sp906-satin-black-motorcycle-barrel-paint/ and the same brand VHS engine primer.. Only part of my engine that was not repainted is the upper case... Rocker cover was powder coated..(clutch and pulsar cover are new ZZR 1200 parts...) BG.
Thanks for the video I have the 1200s in my thibking about putting the airport filters on it I’m just curious as to how you get it all back in the frame? There ain’t a lot of space
Hi Brian , im currently going through a very mild restoration of my Rex . Ive got a few spots of flaky paint on the engine which im worried will start to get worse . Did you repaint your engine ? If so how did you do it ?
Love the period Muzzy block off plates. What an outstanding build!
