less items to take off less items that get messed up especially for older cars. Intake tubs is rubber and known to split apart upon removal.

is it possible to replace just the front valve cover gasket without removing the intake manifold?

    • @kevinsmobileautomotiverepair

I dont think so because the bolts are not accessible or the cover will not clear the rocker arms with the intake on.

Winter time for me so waiting til Spring to tackle this. My front one leaks no other leaks i added some At205 for now and retorqued the bolts that are exposed a few were easily 1/4 turn loose. Maybe that will solve it maybe not. But anyways since I havent experienced this repair on the Pilots yet this vid was good for prep and insights to the easy to the frustrating points.

Enjoyed your vide. I always wonder what the 2 inch plate with two bolts parallel to the PCV rubber tubing seen at 0:13 is for. It is at the lower left corner of the intake air manifold aluminum block. This is for Bank 2. There is another one for Bank 1. No one seems to bother to indicate what it is.

Take a screen shot and circle it so I can see what your talking about exactly. If your talking next to the dip stick to the left of it. That would be a mounting spot for a vvt selnoid which this year its near the oil filter different years they put it there. I think it started in 2010 I remember doing a vc on one and the vvt was also leaking making it look like only a vc was the issue.

@@kevinsmobileautomotiverepair I don't think I can upload a picture. If you view the intake air manifold aluminum block as a big turtle with the throttle body as head. The device I am talking about is at the lower left corner (about 2" above oil dipstick). It almost touches the UA-cam screen bottom at 2:59. Its top surface is a triangle with a 90 degree corner (between 2" vertical side and 1" bottom). At 12:28, your left hand covers it. Thanks.

Hey, so when I took all bolts off and popped open the top part off, the inside had some black gunk all around. I’m assuming that’s something that needs to be cleaned off (I’ve been having a leaking issue and that’s why I’m watching this bc it’s my valve cover gaskets) but how do you think should I clean it up?
