Fair assessment, we get a lot of Hanamikoji comments, and it’s one we just haven’t played yet! But it certainly is one that gets brought up to us a lot, hoping to try it soon!
Got into board games less than a year ago, been watching a lot of videos on UA-cam, and just stumbled onto your channel the other day. Enjoyed your stuff so far, and love that you are in Halifax. From there myself but currently living in Ontario (would head back tomorrow if I could convince my wife). Anyway great content! Thanks!
I love your guys' dynamic haha, very fun to watch! And thanks for the list, I'm excited to try The Initiative and Silver Bullet. Cheers and take care :)
Good list. Some of these are ones I definitely need to get. Some of my favourite games at two players: 7 Wonders Duel, Fox in the Forest, Codenames Duet, Watergate, Exit, The Rival Networks, Carcassonne.
We are excited to get our copy of Duet played, and I really want to give Watergate a try. I might see if it’s in our FLGS’ library to play the next time we go!
Have you ever tried Puzzle Strike? It's a PVP deck builder with a cool rebound mechanic - the closer you get to losing the game, the more you can draw per turn. The pieces are fun too, instead of cards you have a bad of tokens like poker chips.
Those are great games! We haven’t had a chance to play unmatched yet, Dice throne we love obviously and I HOPE we can play our copy of Rebellion soon. It scares me to learn haha
Castles of burgundy is one of my favorite games! But I actually prefer to play it with 4 players because you get more variety of tiles! Great selection anyway
Dice Throne is amazing. I just picked up a bunch of Unmatched this past week, so looking forward to getting into that more. Blue Moon (Legends) is great. For a small box 2 player I really like Mandala. For heavier games Covert might be my favorite (though I’m probably biased).

Super fantasy brawl is my wife and my favorite two player game to pull out. Fort is one we pull out all the time. Im trying not to late back rainbow 6 siege but i spent a long time reading those rules and getting that game down and i feel like that would be the top of my list. We also play townsfolk tussle online all the time and i cant wait till that comes that will be in my top 10.
I haven’t played Super Fantasy Brawl! One I didn’t mention here (as I haven’t played it) is Blood Bowl. Definitely one I hope to pick up down the line!
If it gets my better half to the table, it ranks high on my list. So with that said, I would add Patchwork, Quacks of Quedlinburg and Lost Cities. BTW Burgundy is in France. Love you both! Keep talking about gamethingy stuff.
Haven’t played lost cities but have heard really great things. Jamie is more of a quacks fan than I am, mainly because I seemingly have terrible luck in that game! Thanks so much for sharing!
Great video!! :) Always really enjoy a good list! For me a couple favorite 2 player games that I own are five tribes, honeybuzz and dinosaur island (not exclusively 2 players but amazing) and 7 wonders duel
We are waiting on honeybuzz, we really have no idea when we will actually get it. Five tribes I need to play more but it could definitely be in the mix for a future list like this. I also love Dinosaur island, I actually prefer to play the reg version at 2 player rather than play Duel. Great games my man!
Yes, great picks for two player games! You have a few I haven't tried yet, but based on the rest, I really want to. I get the feeling that you haven't played Hanamikoji yet. Not sure how easy it is to get a hold of now, but it may be my favorite 2 player game. You have to play it with the same person a few times to really get the beauty of it's mechanisms, and how it forces you to get inside the other players mind. I love it! Another really good recommendation would be Archaeology:New Expeditions..... also possibly harder to get. If you like push you luck and set collecting, it's a really solid filler style game.
Castles of Burgundy at #1 for Jeff warms my heart! (Dylann) 7 Wonders Duel and Santorini are also fantastic. One day when we can hopefully cross paths at a convention, we'll have to throw down an AYCB vs Foster the Meeple 2v2 game of Santorini because I honestly don't think I've ever played the 2v2 mode. Great video all around though!
We would LOVE that! Jamie would likely need to carry us if we are to have a chance, but really hope to meet up with you two eventually!! I’m certain we can make that happen. In the spirit of competition!
7 wonders duel is probably my favorite 2 player only game. For 2 player game regardless of possible player count is a bit tougher for me to decide! Maybe The Others???
I've played Azul with 2 players and with more than 2 players. I like it both ways, but it definitely changes when you have more than 2 players. The main difference is that it becomes more tactical and less strategic, just because you can't anticipate what all your opponents will do.
Thanks for sharing this list! I'm on the lookout these days for great 2 player games for my wife and I, you gave us a great start! Speaking of great starts, looks like Jeff needed some caffeine before starting this video, or maybe just one good slap to the face from Jamie would have done it, lol! He was much better closer to the end :D
Great list, and entertaining as always! For mean 2-player card games don’t forget Arboretum! That’s a nasty little knife fight disguised as a beautiful zen pattern-builder! Reminds me of Lost Cities in the tough decisions. Also Monopoly Deal card game is surprisingly mean, and cheap (could cheat a little on no-buy month), and works great with non-gamers. 15 minutes and great at 2-players. For other abstract games I like Kahuna (what if backgammon was area control game) and Taluva (building a beautiful model like Santorini). I also love the tile-builder Akrotiri with its spacial puzzle and goal cards. No idea if you’d like it, but I do.
santorini with 4 players, each person has one meeple, but there is still two teams. Each person also has one god-power. I enjoy it. Between you and your team mate you have two powers, so you can do some fun things. It can be very mean. I think you would like it :D.
Since you guys seem to like take-that, have you played Kahuna? That's my favorite take-that game. Also, def gotta check out Silver, after all your gushing about it!
Need to give villainous another try. First time years ago , it didn’t go well for either my wife or I. Also try targi if you get a chance. Love love love that game.

Great video guys thanks. You guys are making me get 4 (four) games, shame on you :) I will report back when we get them played. Edit: Just watched the QnA video. Sorry Jeff, didn't mean to stress you LOL... I make decisions like a grown person (AKA thinking) so no need to feel bad for influencing my decision. Love you guys, keep up the great work.
@@FostertheMeeple castles of burgundy, silver bullet, dice throne and Villainous. DT and Villainous first. What version of Villainous do you recommend?
@@dultanur likely the first in the series (green box). Reason: it has the most amount of characters and comes with some extra components the other games don’t have. Never heard of Silver Bullet but with such high praise I'll pick it up! Did you guys try these other versions (Silver, Silver Coin, Silver Dagger) with 2 players?
SW: rebellion is good at 2, but i kind of like the 4 player (not dividing the roles but so someone else can giggle at our plotting) The Others from Cmon was a great two player game (it also works well at higher counts as the Sin player can pit the others against each other) The Networks plays well at 2 - lots of hate drafting ;)

You should seek out the original Lord of the RIngs Confrontation Deluxe Edition. It is basically the larger version of the game. My gut is that it isn't easy to find nowadays, though. The small version does the job, but the larger version is nicer... and all of the info is right on the cards/character standees... I prefer that aspect, alone.
@@FostertheMeeple I hunted down a copy second-hand years back... and it wasn't easy then, so yeah, it might be tricky, but if you are diligent, I am sure you will get one. :-)
I would say the original (green box). Reason: It comes with more characters and will be a good intro into the series (if you like it and choose to buy the other versions for more characters). It also has some more components that the others don’t (a cauldron of sorts to hold the power tokens for example)
I thought about including Cribbage, but I enjoy it just as much in partners as I do 1 v 1 so excluded it, but crib will always have a special place in my heart!
@@FostertheMeeple The decision matrix with 6-card hands is so much more interesting that I prefer 2-player. I'll play cribbage 3- or 4-handed, but for 4-handed card games, I prefer Bridge, Hearts, Pinochle (double-deck) or poker.
Great video! Have Innovation and Azul on my wish list. Some of my favourite two player only games are Undaunted: Normandy, Stellar and Fugitive. Games I enjoy at two are The King is Dead and Caper. Looking forward to getting Caper: Europe to replace Caper.
#TeamJeff have you tried the 7 wonders duel app in order to play it more? I love the game but almost never win. I have not tried the app myself. Also Jamie...glad to hear Fort is good at 2. "Where is Burgundy?" "Probably England, mabye Germany!" I see you're not into wine 😅 I really enjoyed this Top 11. I've just discovered your channel and I'm looking forward to explore your other videos.
The very best of 2-player board games are games you haven't even tried to play. Wargames are almost always two player games, and there have been thousands of them published since their early days, 60 years ago. "Board games" encompasses a lot more than just euro-style games.

The small version does the job, but the larger version is nicer... and all of the info is right on the cards/character standees... I prefer that aspect, alone.
I would be surprised if I could find a copy where I am at, but I’ll keep an eye out for sure!! Thank you!
@@FostertheMeeple I hunted down a copy second-hand years back... and it wasn't easy then, so yeah, it might be tricky, but if you are diligent, I am sure you will get one. :-)
Which version of Villianous would you guys recommend as first time player.
I would say the original (green box). Reason: It comes with more characters and will be a good intro into the series (if you like it and choose to buy the other versions for more characters). It also has some more components that the others don’t (a cauldron of sorts to hold the power tokens for example)
Star Realms is my number 1!
Great game!
My 2-player list would probably include: Cribbage, Starship Catan, Frostgrave, Magic, DBM, and a bunch of board wargames.
You dont know where Burgundy was? *Angry Flemish noises*
Call to adventure looks like it would be similar to roll player
Yea somewhat!! Less dice of course and more character build - but definitely similar in theme
Omg a Zoboomafoo reference at 16:45?!
I am sorry for 3 comments haha
Zoboomafoo FTW
If Zach doesn’t appreciate you painting his Santorini minis then dump him.
Hhahaha this got a good laugh from me. He paints himself so he likely wants to paint them!!
Great video! Have Innovation and Azul on my wish list. Some of my favourite two player only games are Undaunted: Normandy, Stellar and Fugitive. Games I enjoy at two are The King is Dead and Caper. Looking forward to getting Caper: Europe to replace Caper.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing your lists. Honestly I haven’t played any of this but maybe someday down the road!
Have you tried Hanamikoji?
We haven’t yet!! Hopefully soon
@@FostertheMeeple it’s getting an update so it should be available in the spring… 😎
chess really should be on this list along with checkers
They could be on your list! But not on ours, since this is a list of our opinions and they aren’t games we play!
azul no captives, only releases
#TeamJeff have you tried the 7 wonders duel app in order to play it more? I love the game but almost never win. I have not tried the app myself.
Also Jamie...glad to hear Fort is good at 2. I can't wait for it to come in so I can play with my main gaming partner (my wife). Missed it the 1st go round.
Haven’t tried the app either! Not sure I LOVE playing games digitally. I just can’t seem to focus or something. I suck on BGA. Fort is a really great game - keep us posted on your thoughts when you finally get it!
@@FostertheMeeple I agree on playing games digitally. I basically stopped doing BGA over a year ago for that reason. Will let you know about Fort.
@@FostertheMeeple so we finally got Fort in last week. We played it 6 times over the weekend (I lost all of them) and my wife after our 1st and even 3rd and 4th play wanted to immediately play again...which I don't recall ever happening. So it is definitely a hit in our house. Great game! We are playing again tonight! #TeamJeff
You two are so cute.
First time watching you. 👍🏻😊
YAYY!! Thank you!! Welcome to our little community :)
"Where is Burgundy?"
"Probably England, mabye Germany!"
I see you're not into wine 😅
I really enjoyed this Top 11. I've just discovered your channel and I'm looking forward to explore your other videos.
Thanks for joining us!!! Yea, not drinkers here so forgive us our Wine trespasses haha
Cribbage ... You forgot cribbage.
Oh nooooo. You’re right. We did.
Firefly the board game.
Haven’t played it!!
@@FostertheMeeple awesome game, based on the Joss Whedon tv show.... does have alot to it and the game play time is very long.
Lol Jamie is choc full of memes this episode
She’s choc full of memes always
I can read - I just can't see! Hahahaha
Jamie’s goal in every video is to make you laugh Jim!
Huh
The very best of 2-player board games are games you haven't even tried to play. Wargames are almost always two player games, and there have been thousands of them published since their early days, 60 years ago. "Board games" encompasses a lot more than just euro-style games.
I mean. I love war games so, this comment is pretty silly. Really excited to watch your video when it comes out Darrell!!
Pathetic titles. Simple boring games
Oh hey thanks so much Tomasz! Super happy you enjoyed the video! People like you keep us pushing to do more. Appreciate you!
