    The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago to my M20. I managed to bodge a bigger screw and a mini bolt to “fix” the plastic back on but ended up buying a carbon rock guardz bash guard. The Rise definitely needs extra protection down there! So many strikes!!

    Great idea with the Magic Mary. I cut out part of a plastic bottle of 'Skin So Soft' midge repellant to make a temporary rear shock guard on my old Commencal Meta 5.5 back in 2006 .... and it's still going strong! So tempted to pull the trigger on the Rise M15 but still think I'm too young for an eMTB as I'll only be 61 next week 😆

    Had the exact same failure of the bash plate a few days ago. Nice solution, I may have to try that! (have the original worn out rekon tires laying around)

  • @magnate2372
    @magnate2372 2 роки тому +2

    Nice job finding an alternate and much cheaper solution. I would be concerned that the tire could could cause an OTB if it catches on something. I think having something slick like the plastic that was there would be safer for you but probably not as protective as the MM tire.
    I wonder if a longer screw and washer could be used to hold up an alternative plastic covering. Not sure what I would use, maybe the plastic from a bucket?

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому

      It's a tried and tested bodge, I fit the same on my Wild if I know its going to be rocky. I considered fitting a longer screw but I'd still be in the same position. It was a rock that got flicked up so it would still smash the plastic protector, not the best material to use but hey. The strap is nice and tight and grips onto the tread of the tyre. Nice and cheap and it works 👍

  • @patrickhayes3099
    @patrickhayes3099 2 роки тому +1

    Magic Mary is going to have some friction with obstacles and get peeled off, no? A slick plastic cover, like stock, should have less friction, and slide over the rock/stick. The velcro strap riveted to the crappy cover near the original screw hole, would be my choice.

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому +1

      The bike/motor cover didn't slide over anything, it was a rock that got flicked up at speed during the descent.

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому

      Hi, It was a rock that got thrown up at speed so if I did repair it, it would just get smashed again. It's rubbish material, not a well thought out design or material choice.

    • @anivalzgz
      @anivalzgz 2 роки тому

      @@OldNorthern_eMTBer Makes no sense the use of plastics these days when you expend thousands of Euros in a eMTB. Well I hope it lasts and no water comes in.

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому

      @@anivalzgz The plastic motor cover/protector isn't waterproof, the plastic cover is there to 'protect' the motor. Likewise, my hack isn't waterproof, its just there to stop rock strike damage. Yes, brittle plastic isn't ideal..... 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • @stevebaur
    @stevebaur 2 роки тому +1

    Perhaps that screw is intentionally small so it breaks away without messing up the motor.

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому

      The screw was still in place. It's supposed to be a 'bsh guard' or 'motor protector', not much use if it is designed to break? No, it's just a rubbish choice of material. If it had more flex or impact resistance such as rubber it woukd be great, rocks woukd bounce off and the motor would be protected.

    Broke my plastic cover on my cube .
    They wanted £45 + £20 p+p .
    I repaired it with £3 fine aluminium mesh and a soldering iron .
    Making a cheque plate aluminium bash guard soon . Retail £35 .
    Me £8 for a sheet of plate which will make at least 6 😏

    Totally agree on the flimsiness of a m4 screw holding on a bash plate!!
    On the range extender, I have the M10 Rise and once the range extender is used up the the display shows 3 out of the 5 bars left and does not reset to 100%. Wish it would as initially it was quite confusing getting my head around how much juice was left. Which display are you using?
    How do you find the Rise compared to the Wild?

      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  2 роки тому

      Hi Ewan, happy to subscribe, it's nice to see what other Rise riders are up to. Interesting about the empty extender and 3 bars? I'm sure the info said (or eluded to) the display going to 100% once the extender was exhausted? I'll find out tomorrow and I'll get back to you. Will be a bit of a pain if it doesn't and yes, very confusing. I swapped out the e7000 b/w display for the SC-EM800 colour display. Mainly because my eyes couldn't read what mode I was in. Easier now just looking at a colour. I bought the Rise to use for big single day rides and bike parks, more DH and jumpy stuff. I love my Wild and won't get rid of it because that is my big multi-day adventure bike because I can remove the battery and charge them in the B&Bs overnight. If the Rise could do that I'd probably look to sell the Wild. Yiu watch, the 2023 Rise will have a removable 540wh battery, then I'll have a decision to make 😂

    • @-ewen
      @-ewen 2 роки тому

      @@OldNorthern_eMTBer I have the EM800 display and do like the colour option. I see the range extender I have is not the 2.0 version you are showing. The manual I have shows it how I describe it, which is real primitive as it would be great to know what the exact percentage is. Instead if I'm showing 4 bars that means I am somewhere between 80-61% of the TOTAL of both batteries combined. Experience shows that 3 bars showing means the extender is exhausted. You could shut the bike down and disconnect the extender then reboot and would show 5 bars for the bike battery. You would think Orbea in this day and age would have a better system, though looks like they have got there finally with 2.0 as you have.
      How do you find the extra torque from the Wild to the Rise? Just love what these bikes can blast up as some of the trails I might have been up for on a conventional bike 20-30yrs ago as they would have been a major push. Ebikes are such a game changer to me in my 50's, every ride you have a smile on your face!
      Cheers
      Ewen

      The power from the Wild is great, just the job on big adventures and are usdone blind. eeeBs really are proper game changers, I'd never have considered doing the Trans Cambrian Way on a regular bike but did it in 18, 19 and 20 and last year, the Welsh North to South in 4 days. Love both the bikes for their different capabilities. Proper boys toys for a 58 year old 😁👌👍

Used to ride trials bikes and I always looked with envy at the potential on the estates in the Scottish Highlands, obviously they were a no go being motorised. Happy days now with ebikes as you can go anywhere and no one can touch you and they give almost the same level of enjoyment.

When I saw the info on the 2022 Alloy Rise and tge 540 I ummed and arrr'd for a nano second then put my order in.
