    I love Spurgeon! I have to go back to the past to hear sermons that convict me. No one preaches on sin, justification, sanctification. Most preachers today never preach the cross. Preachers today, don’t care about the flock. The great falling away is taking place right before our eyes! There’s a famine in the world for preachers who will preach conviction. I want to be challenged every time I go to church. I want to be convicted in my heart and challenged to live a life of holiness. We have hirelings on TV today that tell you what you want to hear instead of naming sin for what it is. We need pastors that don't care what the board of the church says! I’m so sick of cotton candy preachers wearing sneakers! My heart yearns to be confronted because I’m human and I need to be shaken up. We need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling! I’m a sinner saved by grace and I need to here convicting sermons because I’m still in the flesh and have to mortify the flesh daily.

      I couldn't agree more with your comments. In a nutshell, Spurgeon preached the supremacy of God, rather than so much attention given to "man."

      You are dead on I still don't quite know much about this man myself I'm still trying to figure out a few things. I will say though I am so tired of people refusing to talk about sin! About them acting like we're these horrible people for being honest! The fact is sin is evil and it seperates us from God! WE need to walk away! We need Jesus's and salvation to do so and the Holy Spirit will draw us closer to our Heavenly Father. But we cannto save ourselves, and we cannot allow others to change God's word! The do it all the time though! They twist things up and make cults like SDA or Jehova's Witness, or the Mormons the later two wrote their own version of things. Like the Bible Jehova's read, or the book that the Mormon's put before God's word. That should be a HUGE red flag!
      Or how about the fact that the SDA's call Ellen White a prophet of God and tell you that if you are evil! That God doesn't want us to question his prophets. But God warns us over and over again in the Bible about testing them. WE are also warned that Satan can disguise himself as an angel of god and the false prophet's can appear those of God! The problem is when they contradict the Bible like Ellen and the others mentioned above! They contradict God they cannot be prophets! The fact is that SDA claims they follow the Bible first and then Ellen it's not true. They are always quoting "This is what Ellen interperted from this chapter of the Bible" instead of quoting the Bible itself! So how can that be putting God's word first? Right?
      They insist tha I am of satan! evil ... I'm a Christian! I'm saved! I couldn't be further from Satan! But because I say bo to them they freak out. They think they are dif from the Catholics who put the pope on a high pedastal but they are just as bad. Just as wicked and misled! They are not following God. The church started from a liar who told them in the 1800s that Jesus was returning on a speicific day. You and I both know what the Bible says! So why Ellen who was a 'prophet' of God didn't question this man? I mean come on? IF you really are connected that way to God you would know. You would speak up! You would say that the Bible tells us no man knows the hour! OF Jesus's return! So ya... she didn't... we need to have care who we listen to these day sso many are lost. They just dont' want to hear it.

    My Father was named after Spurgeon.... Paul Spurgeon Miller from Pike, County, Illinois. My Grandparents were both Faith Healers and the Sermons of Spurgeon were very important to them in their Ministry. I didn't realize that Spurgeon had this kind of impact and am surprised to find these posts. Dad had a Tattoo that he got in the Navy that was PSM with a knife and a heart. Don Rickles was in Dad's outfit in the Navy and asked Dad what the S. stood for. Dad said "Spurgeon". Rickles said, "no it doesn't... It stands for "Smiley"... Dad was always amused when Rickles would come around and he was a great morale builder for the fellows during hard times and training... and so Dad was always smiling when Rickles would come around. So the name kind of stuck. And many of the photos I have of Dad's friends in the Navy are all signed "to Smiley Miller "... I'm kind of sad that I didn't ever get to meet Rickles and tell him how much he meant to the other Sailors in his outfit. Whenever Rickles was on TV on the Carson Show... Dad was always transfixed and always demanded total silence in the living room where the TV was. I asked him finally why he was so serious or so attentive when Rickles came on and he told us the story of Rickles giving him the nickname. Dad died in 2013 but I liked this story and thought to share it... on this Spurgeon link... since Spurgeon started it all.

      Spurgeon was most probably a freemason. His metropolitan tabernacle had a freemason cornerstone which was laid in a freemasonic ceremony. Spurgeon himself used much language derived from freemasonry and other religious origins. While he did many great things and preached many fitting Christian messages it's unfortunate such an influence as freemasonry is connected to this man, named Charles Spurgeon.

    A poem of Spurgeon's conversion told from the point of view if the man who converted him (to be read in an Essex accent if possible)
    THE SHOEMAKER
    I walked past me cobbler’s shop,
    but I could barely see it in all the snow.
    It were January 6, 1850, Colchester
    and dirty ice fell from clouds fat ‘n low,
    A rotten, soulless Lord’s day it was
    and only fifteen of us made it in -
    in to our little building on Artillery street
    and, when it was time to begin,
    the minister had not come
    for the drifts in his street were chest high
    and someone needed to lead the service
    and, as the eldest, it were I.
    Now I ain't a preaching man,
    I make shoes - that’s what I do,
    but sometimes God calls anyone
    and be ready if that one’s you.
    So, as I were climbing the pulpit,
    the door slammed opened at the back
    and the storm roared in for a moment
    and there stood a young man all in black.
    He were as old as my own son
    and his face had a pitiful cast,
    riven perhaps by the wearying weather
    or something else - I could not ask.
    ‘Look unto Me, and be ye saved,
    all the ends of the earth,’ I read;
    for Isaiah forty-five was the Word.
    ‘Anyone can look,’ I boldly said,
    but my heart was ever doubting
    for I’d never converted a man.
    ‘Many of ye look to yourselves…’
    and this is how my sermon began.
    But I soon ran out of ideas -
    like the mist puffing out from my breath.
    ‘If you don’t look you’ll be miserable
    always in life and even in death.’
    And having little more to say,
    the dread silence began to grow,
    so I looked for inspiration
    and there he stood still dripping with snow.
    ‘Young man, you look very miserable.
    Have you looked? Obey my text!
    Do it this moment and ye’ll be saved -
    ye’ll no longer be so vexed.
    Look to Jesus Christ, young man.
    Look you - do it right now!’
    But it was I who looked - looked in his eyes
    and I saw his heart then bow.
    His dark cloud rolled away
    in the light of God’s own Son,
    my one and only convert
    and look what he’s become!
    The Prince of Preachers, they call him.
    Through him God’s truths all shine;
    and the millions who come to faith,
    because he looked, in part, are mine.
    So tell the ends of the earth to look
    and if it's only one person you reach,
    like me, you can never know
    to how many others your one will preach.

    Colossians
    Chapter 4
    1Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
    2Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
    3Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
    4That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
    5Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
    6Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
    7All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord:
    8Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
    9With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
    10Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)
    11And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
    12Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
    13For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
    14Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
    15Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.
    16And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
    17And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
    18The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen. (Written from Rome to Colossians by Tychicus and Onesimus.)

    Colossians
    Chapter 1
    1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
    2To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
    3We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
    4Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
    5For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
    6Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
    7As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;
    8Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
    9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
    10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
    11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
    12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
    13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
    14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
    15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
    16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
    17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
    18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
    19For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
    20And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
    21And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
    22In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
    23If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
    24Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
    25Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
    26Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
    27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
    28Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
    29Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

    Colossians
    Chapter 3
    1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
    2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
    3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
    4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
    5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
    6For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
    7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
    8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
    9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
    10And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
    11Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
    12Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
    13Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
    14And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
    15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
    16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
    17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
    18Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
    19Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
    20Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
    21Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
    22Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
    23And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
    24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
    25But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

    The man Spurgeon is lost if the chronicles of man about Spurgeon are correct.
    The man either did not understand the meaning of the word (Word) or he did wrest the word thinking in error he had the liberty to wrest the word.
    If he understood the burden of the Lord and the fear of the LORD he would not wrest that which the LORD magnified above all his name. He would not use the word (Word) which cannot be divided, for the (word) which must be rightly divided.
    Try the spirits in his letters and copies of his preaching and know with certainty the man did wrest the Lord's pure word (Word).
    The (Word) is the eternal life of the Father and not a second person. The eternal life of the Father was with him and not a second person. The Word, the eternal life of the Father was manifested:
    John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    2 The same was in the beginning with God.
    3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
    4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
    1John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
    2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
    (The (he) that was manifested in 1John 3 line 5 is the (Father) in 1John 3 line 1):
    1John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
    2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
    3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
    4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
    5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
    1 Corinthians 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
    John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
    Spurgeon's doctrine of a 3 persons god is a damnable heresy which he declaring in error the Lord Jesus to be a second person of a 3 persons god.
    If this is correct about Spurgeon then he preached another gospel and another Jesus all of which is contrary to the holy scriptures. God is a person known by many names and he is JESUS.
    Jesus is the only wise God and Saviour, the Almighty,, the everlasting Father, the blessed and only Potentate; and the Word is the eternal life of the Father which was manifested to take away our sins. God is a Spirit, a Holy Spirit. God is a person and not persons. Interpretations belong to God and the LORD gave us the interpretation of these three are one which we read in 1John 5 line 7 when we rightly divide the word of truth and find the mate lines in the book of Job when Job gave his great witness and warning we read in Job 13 lines 6 through 10.
    1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
    Job 13:7 Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
    8 Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?
    9 Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?
    10 He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
    John 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
    9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
    1John @ Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
    Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
    1Timothy @ That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
    15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
    16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
    Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
    8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
    John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
    25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
    26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
    27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

      @@pastorfred2543 we are commanded to try the spirits and be instant to reprove, rebuke, and admonish; therefore perhaps it would be wise to learn the meaning of the burden of the LORD and read again Jeremiah 23 with Proverbs 30 lines 4 and 5 and Revelation 22 lines 18 and 19.
