I set the auxes to pre-fade, so that any source that needs to be centered, gets dialed up to a 7 on each aux. If I wanted something to the right, aux 1 would be a zero and aux 2 would be at 7, etc. Bring the auxes out, and back into the mixer and route to a couple of unused groups and out to the headphones for monitoring. This was live! No ProTools. No second takes. No comping of several nights performanes. Best band I ever worked for. RIP Earl and Wayne. Thanks to all involved.

alcraig1 and thank you for explaining the process. This performance clip is priceless! I thought the piece was only done by DCT 's 1990s band.... Whoa! This is incredible!

The only thing more unfathomable than that Mr. Seymour's bari solo is that anyone could not like this. Funk and BST at its best!

I was in the audience for that whole week at the Elkhorn Inn and this band blew me away. I wanted to run my saxophones over with my car after witnessing this performance. Thank God I didn't as these guys spurred me on to greater achievement in my own musical career. Thank you Earl and Mic.

Great to find video with Earl featured! I knew and played with Earl in Edmonton. Such a fun loving guy. Left us way too early.

For those that may be interested, here is how I captured the audio on this video. I was touring with the band, and we had already played a few nights at this club in Sun Valley when I was informed (about 1 hour to show time) that there would be a video crew shooting that nigtht and "could I please give them a mix out of my mixer". I don't recall what brand mixing desk was at this club, but it would have been something like a PM2000-24 or similar early eighties vintage. See next.

As Jeff Beck is to a Stratocaster Earl Seymour was to a sax. Any sax! When I worked with him his lungs were packing in so the bari was out of the formula. His musicianship and his humor. Driving to a gig we passed a '53 Chevy, Earl looked at it and said "Melt that down you can make 20 Toyotas, each one warranteed for a lunchtime." Earl was unique.

Backed up The Arrows in the 80's and Earl is one amazing dude! He knew my Dad from early gigging in 50's Edmonton. Talent and Humor, what a riot he was to hang with!

Bruce - I am SO grateful to have found this video! Mic Gillette was a dear friend and an amazing soul, not to mention what an awesome musician he was. During his last weeks here on this earth he had shared this video on his Facebook page and wrote glowing comments about the experience. He later deactivated his Facebook account ... so it is an added bonus to see his comment on your video, recorded for posterity! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can imagine that Mic and Earl are laying down the "fonk" (as Mic called it) once again. May they both be resting in peace ... interrupted occasionally with some of this wonderful music!

Thanks man.  What a blast it was working with these guys.  No digital, no compressors, no plug-ins, crap reverb (and a bit thick at times).  but honestly, once I got the first song dialled in, these guys mixed themselves.

Reading a few threads I think we need to post some "Earlisms' like "He who dies with the most toys - is- well- ---dead." Earl had a very astute and dry sense of humor.

The sax solo is great, they sound more like Towere Of Power than B.S.& T. I still like Georgie Fames rendition better, and nobody can beat Jon Hendricks, this formymoney is Jon' sonng as much as Georgia is Ray's or Respect is Aretha's.
