I had a neighbor that was a big jazz fan. He was playing Jon Hendricks on his cassette player. I remember asking him, “Who is that??!!” I became an instant fan. The year was 1985. He was a very classy entertainer
+Adult Hybrid Child of Extraterrestrials I met these children,- travelled , played music for & lived with Jon & family at there home near Marble Arch London in 1971. A very precious time,- Great memories. Keep Rocking Jon. Keith P.
I had the good fortune of playing bass for Jon Hendricks & family in Germany & London in the Summer of 1971. A true Scat Jazz man. Great to see that he is still performing. Blessings to you & Family Jon. Kp.
The great Jon Hendricks. No other adjective will suffice. Dear Jon, rest in piece -- I can well imagine you and Lambert singing like nobody's biz up there😊
Jon should a lot of class at the end by telling his band to get up and take a bow while still on camera. But........ there is no way I would have taken wine over Heather Locklear.
Keith Pullen.. I was also around at Marble Arch in '70/71. just a few times though. I used to go to school with Jon's son Eric, and friends and I used to spend some good times there... Eric could be a bit 'naughty' ;-). Been trying for years to know what happened to him (Eric)... school friends still ask after him 45 years later!
Hello Alan Cook - I must have seen you in 1971 - I was living with the Hendricks Family at there home at Stanhope Place for about 5 months,- Eric was often Erratic with his behaviour & was often corrected by his father Jon,- Eric was taken to a Mental Clinic where he stayed up & till I finished working for Jon in Mid Summer of 1971. I don't know what ever happened to Eric after this = I have often wondered my self. Eric's Sister Coleen died tragically some years later. Michelle & Aria Hendricks are still performing - Sadly their father Jon died a year ago aged around 95 / 96. Keith Pullen.
Back when the good stuff got featured on top shows on TV. . . Now just stupid, vapid, shallow crap! Unbeliveable. Jazz rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your a rocker or a blues man and you didn't recognize this is a Louis Jordan song after five seconds please go back to roots music school. Louis Jordan had 18 top ten hits on the whatever music chart. No I don't know who wrote it.
Does Wynton know his way around a nice little Bebop chord progression, or WHAT? And, a whole lot more of course. You could tell the guys in the band (no slouches, themselves) knew a master when they heard one! Great stuff!
Neither.. It is a standard swing era 32 bar AABA tune where the bridge goes to the IV not a dominant 7th on III as in the changes to "I Got rhythm". It is not the form of a 12 bar blues but he plays with the "sound of the blues" (vocal inflections, bend notes, varied vibrato, etc.) and in syncopated time (swing) with the band as should all Jazz musicians.
"Them chicks look cold, they ain't got no soul" - kind of a pity he used this line instead of the original: "Well those chicks look fine, but I love my wine!" Anyway - cheers!! 🍷🍷🍷
Funny in it's time. Now crude and not funny, as we all have known too many alcoholics. Can't make silly fun of drunks anymore. Kinda' like stupid blondes. We've moved on.
Holy Toledo, Jon Hendricks was so good.

90's, the last decade that acknowledged jazz in the mainstream
This gentleman is a part of our family. He was married and had 4 children with my dad's sister.

Dear Jon, rest in piece -- I can well imagine you and Lambert singing like nobody's biz up there😊
Steve vanDien, but you forgot to include in that heavenly choir - the fabulous Annie Ross. (Lambert, Hendricks and Ross)!
He was a living national treasure.
Wynton smoking solo. Guys in the band are like Yeah!
Rest in Peace, Mr. Hendricks.
Eddie Jefferson is the grandfather of vocalese but Jon is definitely his top protege... Emphatically the extension of EJ.

El mejor Jazz del Mundo
yay
4:06 a nod to LHR (would sing that exact rhythm displacement so often)
one of the many cool things I now know about Conan O'Brien is that he once met Jon Hendricks
Hip hop? HE IS HIP-HOP Mr. Hendricks, RIP
Does Wynton know his way around a nice little Bebop chord progression, or WHAT? And, a whole lot more of course. You could tell the guys in the band (no slouches, themselves) knew a master when they heard one!
Great stuff!
Sorry, but that ain't bebop ! It's blues.
@@MarkInLA Ah, rhythm changes?

💯😍🎼
Unhand that bottle!
I only thumbs up this one for Wynton's solo
"Them chicks look cold, they ain't got no soul" - kind of a pity he used this line instead of the original: "Well those chicks look fine, but I love my wine!" Anyway - cheers!! 🍷🍷🍷
I heard a great bootleg of Clarence Clemmons singing this when Bruce needed to take a piss.
They should of just had Clark Terry solo, instead of that vest-wearing imitator.
EHHH Conan has been mos...
