So we got Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Q-Tip, riffing with DJ Dmitry, DJ Towa Tei and the ever lovely Lady Miss Kier. WIth a Herbie Hancock sample. Best party tune ever.
Q-tip on this and De La Soul on Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc." are the sort of appearances that make me so happy, knowing that artists I love also appreciate other artists I love. (Nas & Beastie Boys "Too Many Rappers Not Enough DJs" also.)
This was a big hit back then. What you are witnessing is the diversity in music that we had back in the day, across all genres of music. Sound effects was commonly used in hip hop music back in the day. The diverse styles of music back then was on high...
Amen. I was eleven when the song came out and being a little gay boy from WIsconsin, I was starry-eyed and obsessed. I finally met Lady Miss Kier in 2006 and fulfilled my dream: I did the rap onstage next to her when she sang "Groove is in the Heart" at a LGBTQ pride event.
That's the iconic Bootsie Collins on guitar, one of the original members of Parliament-Funkdadelic. He played for James Brown early on in his career as well.
Was out for dinner tonight. This came on Told our table & server how we used to jump out of cars / cabs at intersection stop lights to get down to it when it first came out. . Lol. 💃🤸♀️🤸♂️🕺
This song was playing the first time I ever saw a girl in her underwear. My best friend and I were 14 and we were riding our bikes at night we passed by a house with the door open, some girl was standing in the doorway in bra and panties, this song was playing on their stereo. I'll never forget.
well if you are talking the video, the video is exactly like something straight out of the 1960s. i could see if you are young and think that this is new, if you have never seen any videos from the 1960s. this is the 1960s psychedelic way
These guys and their crowd were so ahead of their time, they look like they belong to both the 1960s and the 2010s! Psychedelic patterns and man buns! Lol
Ahhh, grade 9 house-party. This song and Love Shack (by The B52s) on repeat for a half hour or so... Memories. You should definitely follow this one up with Love Shack.
Deee Lite was lightyears ahead of their time. This had such a huge impact, I can't even start to mention why and how. Just read the wikipedia page about this song and group. Then start dissecting all the samples it contains to truly appreciate and understand the production. And then go down the list of guest artists on this song. This was massive for a very long time. One of the biggest dance hits ever. Featuring Q-Tip, Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker. Check out: Herby Hancock - Rock it
I am older and always look for new songs but I never really find anything I like that is current. Then this song came up recently (I had never heard it before) and i thought, GREAT, finally someone has come out with a good song. Then I find out is it 30+ years old, lol. I guess we all just like what we grew up listening too.
I liked this song since the first time I heard it back in the early 90's! This is one of those songs that seems like they poured the 60's the 70's the 80's and the 90's into a blender and this is what came out!! Lol! I LOVE it!! It's always been a great track!
The entire album is fun. This group had two DJs. I wish there were more fun songs like this today. To bring in QTip to collaborate was ahead of their time. Plus Bootsie.
G Guff I bought this album specifically for this song, but wound up loving _EVERY_ one of them. That's unusual for me to like every song. Usually there are a few on every album that aren't very good, but not this one.
I'm a massive Dance Music head in my 40s and know all the tunes you react to and watching you react and talk about the tracks is brilliant and makes me relive the feelings I had when they were new. Great work!
Jay, this song was played at every single club & frat party my entire freshman year of college at UF!! We even rolled out in the 60's zip up boots & skirts. 🤣🔥🎵❤ Those memories are just TOO good!!
One of the things that makes me happy about my life is the fact I was got to grow up in England in the 90’s, the music was insane from dance to indie and everything in between ....as well as other aspects!! If you know you know 😉 I’d have loved to experience the 60’s but we got the next best thing!!
Guarantee you that at some point this week Jay is gonna just be wandering around, doing whatever he normally does, and he just randomly busts out singing "Groooovee is in the hearrtttt". It's unstoppable.🤣🤣. Been happening to all of us for 30 years
It`s all about being silly and having fun. I was 20 in 1990 and I remember this as _the_ song that lit up every room and every dance floor. It`s just impossible to sit down when this hits the stereo. Still great 23 years later. Crazy.
Every Deee lite album, only three, is unusual and a classic that went to #1 on the billboard dance chart. They ruled the underground club circuit for years before their record came out, then they took the party globally. They are considered pioneers & beloved for bringing nyc house-music into the billboard top ten of the Hot 100....
Funny I was just thinking that in a way it's like one-hit-wonder "Come On Eileen"...both of them have a simple (but addictive) hook but then just keep changing modes through the whole song without getting too repetitive.
We were stationed in West Germany in Schweinfurt and this song came out when I was 20. Hard to believe these people are like almost 60 now. I don't understand time and or ageing. I'm still 25 even though 30 years gone by.
😂 I have 25 or 27 years asking the same. WTF? This song will be in my playlist until the end of my days on this earth. You got a new subscriber! Just for this...love you
It's called psychedelic vibe! And it's addictive 😁😍... that's the magic of Dee lite and their music...you will get hooked and dance your heart away! ❤️
That was DJ Keoki & DJ Dimitri, a huge part of the rave scene in the '90s. Individually ran into Dee Light members at The Roxy on the West Side, The Limelight, at Raves all over Manhattan. Truly truly legendary times, the 90s were f****** sick
Jay-just discovered your channel. I just love and appreciate a young man appreciating excellent music back in the day! I really enjoy your reactions and you have spot on analysis of the bands and songs. You seem like a good man. You are my favorite "reaction" channel. Good job!!
Lady Miss Kier, Towa Tei & DJ Dmitry!!! And Bootsy Collins!! Great song!! How about - Digital Underground- Humpty Dance! (Written by George Clinton & Bootsy!)
They started a fashion, I remember the line-up to see them in Montreal, lots of zippers etc... My friend Steve a DJ and composer, ran into on a crowded street, more recently, and they both opened their arms as if they were long lost friends and hugged each other! Groove is in the heart!
To those who have any recollection of the 70s (and a lot of those who lived through them do not, for various reasons ;-) most of this is instantly recognisable ;-))
I met the singer Lady Miss Kerr after there concert, she is beautiful in person and in the video bass player Bootsy Collins who alot of people do not know he is a bad ass bass player from back in the day.. respect
I remember when this came out. For me and my friends the general reaction was a combination of "What the hell....................." and "I like it!" It's just a fun, catchy song. Infectious(in a good way). Sometimes I put it on just to pick up my bass and groove on that repetitive bassline while I take in the rest of the sounds going on around it. Another 90s song to check out would be Steal My Sunshine by Len. Pretty big in '98
This song was HUUUUUUUGE in the early 90s dance club scene. So much goodness.
Ahh...the good old days!
Luscious Jackson
We looked stupid, the blokes sucking dummies or blowing whistles.
The 90s were having the 70s nostalgia just like we're having the 80-90s nostalgia now
Oh, yes it was...=)
The mad thing is it's over 30 years old and still sounds fresh as hell.
Disco House never gets old
"But it ain't house music...."
instablaster...
Amen brother! My heart still gots that groove. Still jamming this!!
This group was about 15 years ahead of their time
You don't NEED to know what's going on... you were dancing. The song won.
Amen and hallelujah!
You got that right! Just get up and move that's all he needs to do!
Right!💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
OK!!

So we got Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Q-Tip, riffing with DJ Dmitry, DJ Towa Tei and the ever lovely Lady Miss Kier. WIth a Herbie Hancock sample. Best party tune ever.
Too much talent in one place. 🔥
Didn't even know who Q-Tip was back then. Now I'm like hey it's Q-Tip!
We were in golden age because nothing better replaced it.
I'm not even sure our boy ID'd Bootsy or Qtip..
Are you thee James St James?
The rapper is Q-Tip, whose crew A Tribe Called Quest were absolute gods of hiphop in the 90s. You should check them out!
Has he checked out "Buddy" from De La Soul yet?
Tribe called quest "the scenario "
I didn’t know it was Tip.. but now I’ve heard this years later.. of course it is 👌
You should check out, A Tribe Called Quest "Award Tour".
Q-tip on this and De La Soul on Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc." are the sort of appearances that make me so happy, knowing that artists I love also appreciate other artists I love. (Nas & Beastie Boys "Too Many Rappers Not Enough DJs" also.)
I still love this after 30 years. Always makes me smile!
This video is the exact moment that the 80s became the 90s.
Correct
I thought so. Couldn’t remember.
Yes! Including the 1970s going from something the 80s were trying to get away from to something the 90s would mine for material.
Accurate!
And "Vogue"...
This was a big hit back then. What you are witnessing is the diversity in music that we had back in the day, across all genres of music. Sound effects was commonly used in hip hop music back in the day. The diverse styles of music back then was on high...
In this, we did not fail. We left a diversity off music that young artist can build from. They're listening and loving it.
This is such a fun song
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
We were ALL trying to dance like Lady Miss Kier -- de-gorgeous! The 90s were so fun!
I'm not built for it at all but whenever I dance I have the urge to try to copy her doing the snake or that marionette dance.
Every dance move I know came from this video. Lol
Yes!!! We all wanted those moves! She was everything in about 1990!!!
I just tried to do 90's dances to this to annoying my teen daughter but she pretended not to notice.
He's not vicious or malicious
Just de-lovely and delicious
So much fun! I love this song!
When this song came on in the clubs, EVERYONE rushed to the dancefloor. Back when there were dance clubs.
I wasn't old enough to go clubbing, but the Skating ring was jumpin' when this song came on lol
I was there!
Sooo many times!!
I danced my head off to this in the clubs when it was new. Still seems recent!
The dude at the end is Bootsy Collins, a national treasure of funk.
*Intergalactic* Treasure
in the rock & roll hall of fame
Bootsy's the BOMB!!!
Keep it on the one!
When you step off the mothership you are indeed intergalactic.
The P.
This was one of the 1990s biggest dancers… Every time the DJ put the song on, the dance floor became hot hot hot! Oh, how I miss those days!
I could literally watch this woman do her bobble dance for hours. lol
The Bass Player.............The GREATEST Bootsy Collins 😁
James Brown personally gave some of his soul to Bootsy.
He is quite Funkadelic :)
Nobody has more bass than Bootsy :-) On the One!
About 10 yes ago ,went to see parliament, met him outside the club ,cool dude
SO FRICKIN HUGE when it came out. I was alternative, rock, pre-grunge but knew this was the shit.
This song never fails to get me dancing around.
Yea know what you mean . . . .and i'm 62 this year
I still play this song when I’m feeling down. Can’t help but smile.
You know how people are nostalgic for the 80's and 90's now? Well back then we were nostalgic for the 60's and 70's.
Bell bottoms!
I remember dancing to this in clubs! Love it!
Exactly!!

@@JeanParisot And those wonderful platform shoes. Damn I loved those!

Correct, except that Bootsy was a bass player, not a guitarist.
