  • Do you think that you know everything there is to know about canine probiotics? Think again! You must tune in to this super informative episode where Dr. Judy chats with Dr. Conor Brady from Dogs First, writer, speaker and dedicated advocate for natural canine feeding and health. Don't miss this episode where you will learn the latest science and actual studies backing up the most recent advancements in gut flora science. Info that both you AND your dog will benefit from. Even Dr. Judy comments on learning new info in this one. Don't miss it!
Dr. Conor Brady is a full-time writer, speaker and a dedicated advocate for natural canine feeding and health. Much of his work you will find at his website www.dogsfirst.ie and for the nerds, there is in his 2020 book Feeding Dogs: Dry or Raw? The Science Behind the Debate, which proudly remains the #1 rated manual on canine nutrition on Amazon. Dr. Brady lives with his wife Elaine and two daughters, Holly and Zoe, in Wicklow, Ireland, and is a proud father to a slightly (very) odd blue roan cocker called Dudley. What he lacks in brains and finesse he makes up with single-minded determination, though that statement is, “equally true for both of us”.

Dr. Brady hit the point well: an otherwise healthy individual does not need a probiotic supplement, and feed your native microflora by providing a variety of foods within a species-appropriate diet. This is one of the reasons why rotating your foods (proteins, veggies, fruits, brands, etc.) between healthy options is a good idea, along with not limiting yourself to any one particular nutrient profile. Fostering this healthy variety of gut microflora is also mirrored in what Rodney Habib mentions. Don't limit your pet to just one good food source!

Wow my doctor doesn't want to give me antibiotics unless I really really need them and I didn't know that can cause c-diff.

Now I'm confused, I've been giving my dogs probiotics daily and rotating probiotic brands every 30 days. But I shouldn't be giving them probiotics unless they have changes in healthy stools?? So much information going back and forth online it's hard to keep up lol

Oh, I was hoping you would have discussed the use of fecal transplants in dogs (Gut Restore biome pills). Are these “poop” pills effective? How long should they be given? Etc. Maybe on the next session? Thanks for all you do!
