I have Dirt 2 & 3, so would it be a good idea to pick up Dirt just for more rally events? Is the handling relatively close to Dirt 3 or does it suck in comparison?
Love the second one..is it worth picking up if I did? I hear this one has more pure rally races which are the funnest bits of the second one for me...Is the lack of the rewind and flashback feature major? Cos I do crash quite a bit lol.
haha I love your sequel title (Mud). Anyways I remember seeing this in a Game Informer and I thought it looked pretty interesting. I just looked this up one Gamefaqs and it says that Codemasters was the Developer? That's really cool.
if you want Big Rig racing.. try TOCA2. In that game, each type of car was stuck to a certain track, but there was a glitch where you could get any car on any track. Back in the day on Xbox Live I'd host Ice Racing with Semi-Trucks all the time, it was hilarious.
I've been playing the shit out of Rallisport Challenge 2 lately. Also, you mentioned Colin McRae? Codemasters made the Colim M games way back, and this one started out as the next in line but they dropped his name off the title out of respect if I remember right...
Funny thing, you said in your description that it "reminds you of Colin McRae Rally" for the Playstation. You'd be happy to know, the full name is "Colin McRae's DiRT." Maybe they thought that it'd be disrespectful to put his name on the box after that helicopter accident.
just to let you know, the handling in this game is amazing, its not even close to arcade. rally cars have setups on them to be loose ass hell, and when u brake you cant turn.
FUNK would be a great arcade racing idea, unfortunately their answer to the series is a game called FUEL. I was hoping for GRID2 and DIRT2 but FUEL is some other kind of concept that I'm not sold on as much as GRID and DIRT.
dirt seems awesome. i tried the demo though with the steering wheel and it didn't seem to work right...anyone know if it actually works well with the full game? cause i'm a wheel-man. i don't like to race with a controller...it's like playing guitar hero without the guitar to me
yeah, this game is pretty epic, but the menu can be a bit slow and calm at times, like the way that a pop up comes and says "profile succsesfully loaded!" and stays there for like 5 seconds
He died almost a year after it's release; although the game was still being advertised on British tv at the time (but with a message at the end, honouring him).
speaking of games that are hard to find, i spent an entire day looking for saints row 2 over here in England and had no luck, and usually video game shops would have games such as that but apparently not...
does anyone know if dirt has a nighttime rally or trailblazer race on outdoor tracks on dirt. not a rallycross but a rally with a codriver. dirt 2 only has a night race for rallycross
Think its not worth it? I dont feel like spending alot of money in the the 2nd, so I think I'llgo with this one, wich you can get for like 20 pounds in amazon.. Im not sure yet , thanks for the advice tought ;)
Got This for a fiver...Great game..Bit odd coming from DiRT 2 though as the cars do handle quite differently..But I prefer this one as it has more Rally events.
Yeah, DIRT 2 will be available for PS3. I hope it will work with the Logitech G25 clutch, though... So far nothing has been working with the clutch pedal aside from GT5 Prologue. Even GRID doesn't support manual clutch. Bummer!
Pretty cool game, had it for a while and finally got the time to play (started yesterday) and half through the 2nd tyre, fun game but the achievements could be harder since you can play the game on rookie to get most or all of them =\
@thecazzledazzle Let's just hope that DiRT 3 will be any better. They (Codemasters) said that it will feature more cars and more rallying. Sounds good to me.
I dont mean to sound dumb but how do you get the "Drive in excess of 1000 miles" achievement because i have done this but i still dont have it, can someone help me?
@fi7thy - lol yeah. 2nd part he says 'if the car goes off the cliff you should give the driver the ability to jump out the window parachute off before the car explodes.' haha that woulda been a nice addition too
i hope need for speed does something similar with shift! that game looks so much fun and its exactly what i'd do to nfs, the tracks at least. I'd add not just some boring circuit lap tracks, but point a to point b too like that truck race! That is what nfs is all about. and this game is amazing. hope theres a ps3 release too
I just bougth mine and it's perfect ;) Yeah, PS3 was built around a blu ray, then they added the game thing. It takes like forever to play when the game is not installed or whatever, at least a friend of mine took like forever just to let me play Far cry 2. I have it now for 360 and all i had to do was put the cd in a enjoy. It's great. Hopefully I'll get halo 3 this week and Dirt / Bioshock later
In case any of you guys are wondering why Mark has so many review videos up a week. He does this for a living. How do you make money off these reviews Mark?
Found this on pc at a car boot sale for 50p (they wanted £1, I got it down to 50p by saying "Will you take 50p" they said "yes") I don't know if it works yet, I'm installing it now
I have it on GameTap. I wasn't too impressed with it, mostly due to the controls. PC racing games need to be played with controllers. Too bad the 360's play and charge kit doesn't convert a 360 controller into a PC controller. It would be a good game to me after that though. It's a shame because I love racing games.
Bring back Classic Game Room!
In UK, this game isn't called just DiRT; its called Colin McRae DiRT. Same fro GRID. Over in the UK, its called Race Driver: GRID
2:05 Best graphics I have ever seen.
This game looks really sharp. The lighting effects in particular impress me, the cast shadows and the heat haze are especially good looking.
Good review
damn whyd they take big rig racing out of the sequels. didnt even know it was in the game.
nejinaji exactly. I was playing rally, decided to look into the others and I'm surprised it's in here looks so cool
It is like GRID. 1st game was very good, but the sequels were a bit out of touch
I have Dirt 2 & 3, so would it be a good idea to pick up Dirt just for more rally events? Is the handling relatively close to Dirt 3 or does it suck in comparison?
You know what I really appreciate about Classic Game Room? Akways something to watch :D
Love the second one..is it worth picking up if I did? I hear this one has more pure rally races which are the funnest bits of the second one for me...Is the lack of the rewind and flashback feature major? Cos I do crash quite a bit lol.
I just played DiRT 2. It's amazing. graphics gameplay variety. Just amazing.
i've never been an xbox fan, but after watching this video, i know what i want for christmas!
DIRT is a Colin Macrae Rally game
The full title is Colin Macrae: DIRT
Not in America or after Colin McRae's passing. In america, it was simply known as DiRT, and when Colin passed away, the Title was changed worldwide.
At the time this came out it was basically groundbreaking to me, the damage, and it was the first rally game I had played since the Playstation 1.
I havnt watched a cgr video in years but immediatly knew the intro bump before i opened the video
We need a new Rallisport Challange!
I completed all the achievements for dirt :)
haha I love your sequel title (Mud). Anyways I remember seeing this in a Game Informer and I thought it looked pretty interesting.
I just looked this up one Gamefaqs and it says that Codemasters was the Developer? That's really cool.
This game was a revamp of the old Colin McRae series you liked so much on playstation..
Hahaha. "Does anyone else get the feeling we are driving to the overlook hotel?"
Brilliant stuff.
if you want Big Rig racing.. try TOCA2. In that game, each type of car was stuck to a certain track, but there was a glitch where you could get any car on any track. Back in the day on Xbox Live I'd host Ice Racing with Semi-Trucks all the time, it was hilarious.
I love the Overlook Hotel joke.
I need to get this and GRID. Might get GRID for the PC because it looks so much better.
I also agree, the menus in this game are good, I hated the menu system in DiRT 2.
I've been playing the shit out of Rallisport Challenge 2 lately. Also, you mentioned Colin McRae? Codemasters made the Colim M games way back, and this one started out as the next in line but they dropped his name off the title out of respect if I remember right...
I love the menus in GRID more and they're probably the best menus in any game ever.
Mark seems to love this game, so hopefully he'll review dirt 2 as well
Dune buggies. This game would have been the best ever..if it had weather and good physics. Great stuff
:O You have never played Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing?!? You must, sir, you must.
looking forward to getting into this tonight, picked it up off ebay for 40p, awesome!
Do they still sell it at that price
hard to believe dirt 3 comes out tomorrow
its not showing HD??? and very good review btw like always
Are the frame rates at a steady 60 or 30?
Now this guys is funny: " Super extreme hyper desert buggycross HD remix prologue 7" :)
and a good reviewer too.
i have a rally spec 94 subaru imprezza and i can say that this game is as close to what it feels like to drive a rally spec car as it gets
umm you do but unless you have a mad as elite the cable should come with it.
Funny thing, you said in your description that it "reminds you of Colin McRae Rally" for the Playstation.
You'd be happy to know, the full name is "Colin McRae's DiRT." Maybe they thought that it'd be disrespectful to put his name on the box after that helicopter accident.
BIG RIG RACING AND THESE BIG DELIVERY TRUCKS ROCK
just to let you know, the handling in this game is amazing, its not even close to arcade. rally cars have setups on them to be loose ass hell, and when u brake you cant turn.
when is the first big rig race?
FUNK would be a great arcade
racing idea, unfortunately their
answer to the series is a game
called FUEL. I was hoping for
GRID2 and DIRT2 but FUEL is some
other kind of concept that I'm not sold
on as much as GRID and DIRT.

jupp...you have to buy a cable and then you have to turn a switch under the calble where it says HD =)
CGR is the best. Huge Vectrex fan as well. Which I'm a fan of any Vectrex fanatic!!
I don't know what it is about Racing games, but the realistic ones always seem to have the best graphics on the system.
ToCa Race Driver 2 was the first game with big rig racing
+ you can download it from Games On Demand section = no messing with crappy DVDs at all
yeah, this game is pretty epic, but the menu can be a bit slow and calm at times, like the way that a pop up comes and says "profile succsesfully loaded!" and stays there for like 5 seconds
how do i connect my xbox to the hd tv? do you buy an additional cable or wat?
after seeing this im considering buying this game it looks awesome
"Does anyone else get the feeling we are driving to the Overlook Hotel?" Isn't the Overlook hotel from The Shining?
He died almost a year after it's release; although the game was still being advertised on British tv at the time (but with a message at the end, honouring him).
I have both and yes GRID has a better and more refined engine from DIRT but they are two different types of racing games and are both good.
speaking of games that are hard to find, i spent an entire day looking for saints row 2 over here in England and had no luck, and usually video game shops would have games such as that but apparently not...
does anyone know if dirt has a nighttime rally or trailblazer race on outdoor tracks on dirt. not a rallycross but a rally with a codriver. dirt 2 only has a night race for rallycross
First thing i thought when i played this game was, "damn, these menus are nice".
yes u have to buy an HD cable
Of all the off-road dirt track games I think PURE is the best
Think its not worth it? I dont feel like spending alot of money in the the 2nd, so I think I'llgo with this one, wich you can get for like 20 pounds in amazon.. Im not sure yet , thanks for the advice tought ;)
What i want it's a kick ass , next gen , formula One simulation.
Those arcade racing thing = getting old.
Yeah I also noticed that when I was in a VideoGame store. :P
Got This for a fiver...Great game..Bit odd coming from DiRT 2 though as the cars do handle quite differently..But I prefer this one as it has more Rally events.

CGR always reviews things the best!! Go CGR!!!!!
This is a CMR game, made by Codies, they just dropped his name on the North American version.
What a game! Best Rally game ever!
weren't big rigs in motorstorm?
That game looks pretty cool.
I dont mean to sound dumb but how do you get the "Drive in excess of 1000 miles" achievement because i have done this but i still dont have it,
can someone help me?
@fi7thy - lol yeah. 2nd part he says 'if the car goes off the cliff you should give the driver the ability to jump out the window parachute off before the car explodes.'
haha that woulda been a nice addition too
That game is a masterpiece. EA wont make it even in 20 years as good as this.
R.I.P. Collin McRae September 20th 2007 died in a helicopter crash
actually the PS3 version in the UK was released a day before his death (september 15th 2007)
McRae died in a helicopter crash he was only 39
in the US it's just Dirt and in Europe it's Collin McRae Dirt
i like dirt 2 the most out of the three, all were fun, but dirt2 was really difficult to put down.
i hope need for speed does something similar with shift! that game looks so much fun and its exactly what i'd do to nfs, the tracks at least. I'd add not just some boring circuit lap tracks, but point a to point b too like that truck race! That is what nfs is all about. and this game is amazing. hope theres a ps3 release too
The game is just called DiRT in the U.S.
I just bougth mine and it's perfect ;) Yeah, PS3 was built around a blu ray, then they added the game thing. in fact in the UK its known as Colin Mcrae : DiRT
i still have this in my best racer slot!=]
menus ar nice, i like the dirt 2 most, dirt 3 the least in terms of menus, but the music in both dirt 2 and 3 were amazing.
Why could they have Citroen C4, Lancia Stratos etc etc cars in 2005 (DiRT 1) and not in 2009 (DiRT 2)?
i care about menus. GT1 is my favorite. a mix of 90s rock and techno. i wasnt a big fan of the actual in race music tho. just the menus.
This is such a good game!
Is a game for Ps3 to.
this game has a lot of pop-up, but its still really fun
Oh, my bad. I read up about it but I wasn't sure which happened first.
yea, i like modding cars the best. cod5 gets boring easy too. you just gotta have a good rainy day to play it
i was disappointed when i got this game 2day but when i drove a big truck hah oh man dat was a awesome race
In case any of you guys are wondering why Mark has so many review videos up a week. He does this for a living. How do you make money off these reviews Mark?
Found this on pc at a car boot sale for 50p (they wanted £1, I got it down to 50p by saying "Will you take 50p" they said "yes") I don't know if it works yet, I'm installing it now
Biggest flaw - no split screen racing!
Never played a game with big rigs in it? Why not play Big Rigs Over the Road Racing?
haha the car sounds are from TOCa Race Driver 3
i love racing the semis XD
IT SURE IS!!!! You get to go in reverse at an unlimited speed! Hell, you go so fast in reverse that you disappear from the screen.
He died after the game's release in the UK but before the game's released in the US, which allowed time for his name to be taken out.
