From acclaimed director Alexander Payne, THE HOLDOVERS follows a curmudgeonly instructor (Paul Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. I think this is the scene that got Da’Vine the Oscar.
Just that slow close up to her face as she listens to the music, remembering her son.
You can see her taking herself out of the room for a moment and be in a state of bliss, as if he was in the room with her. But then she remembers the reality and all she can do in response is say “Get me another drink.”
Tragically beautiful.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph certainly deserved the Oscar. Despite us never getting to meet Curtis in person, you still feel her grief and heartbreak over losing her baby, and wanting to console her. 😔
I love this scene. Specifically, the close-up chemistry leading to that first kiss between Angus and Elise was felt. I know those feels. Pacing was perfect at that moment.
A lot happens in these 4 minutes. Haven’t seen the movie but can see how all main 3 actors had breakout performances.
That so much happens and the timing is impeccable? Sign that it's tightly written in the best way.
Definitely watch it... it's a great film
My sympathies to people who have lost a loved one. The holidays are rough times.
This scene is brutal. Across-the-board all emotions. That poor woman’s face when she was in the kitchen and she was about to cry and then all the sudden turned angry and said give me a drink. So sad.
I mean the only unlucky thing about the evening for Tully was that he didn't get to stay to hang with Elise.
Excellent film. The trailers sell it as this wacky, feel-good comedy. It really isn't.
Usually the wacky trailers always have some deep drama in em.
Lol awesome video

Disney doesn't allow Movieclips to post parts of their films.
@@futuremovieactor well what if they ran out of movies to put on
@@vivianaespinoza5281 I doubt they would. Even then, Disney'd probably still say no. Haha.
@@futuremovieactor well I’m not gonna rest till they put on there I’ll still be putting this list on no matter what
dont you want a clip of the meteor killing the dinosaurs also?
DaVine Joy Randolph should play Hattie McDaniel
