A movie that can make you feel deeply human, belly laugh, tear up and root for the characters for two hours long, is a world class movie. Five stars out of five.
If it weren’t for Oppenheimer coming out the same year, hell yeah. I get that Oppenheimer is a feat of film making, but I know The Holdovers is going to be a movie I’m going to rewatch for every holiday season that is come.
Honestly, it gave insight to me because there was a time I legit didn’t want to go home for Spring Break at college. Now I think I know what that would’ve been like
@@RTWLRI been a holdover before but not exactly. Fucking sucked at the time but now I just remember the good parts. Feel that way about most things really
GIVE THIS MOVIE THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR OSCAR... deeply felt with emotions that are real and heartfelt. Love to the whole cast and crew for making this a totally healing and deeply felt movie.. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. ! Merri
Loved this movie, will eventually become a christmas classic I bet, has all the humour and wit of a John Hughes film mixed with elements of Dead Poets Society & Scent of a Woman. Very heartwarming too
Saw the preview for this shortly after BILLIONS wrapped. I told my wife we're going to see it to support Giamatti. Money well spent......he was tremendous! This was a fantastic movie.
@@clarencepeterson8646Exactly. Sure, she’d still be an awful person if she did what I suggested. But giving Angus a heads up a few days prior would’ve at least given him the opportunity and time to possibly make other plans for Holiday break that didn’t involve being stuck at the school
@@samosullivan1744 I saw that. Man, it was so satisfying to see the professor call them out for practically abandoning Angus during the holidays. I honestly wish that scene had gone on a little longer
Saw this today, really nice, warm film that has so much heart, comedy and profoundness to it with terrific performances!, absolutely delightful film, really fantastic!
3:43 Hang on, what the hell happened to the guy who died in Brest, November 1919? Not only is that after the Armistice, but the Treaty of Versailles had been signed!
very glaring error at the beginning of the clip: he should've said "salvete gentlemen" since he's addressing more than one person. Can't believe a movie of this quality missed that.
This film doesn’t have that issue. By far most of the actors look the part. The main character who is meant to be college aged IS college aged. He’s 21 years old, Dominic Sessa. This was his first major film debut.
I can see what Angus was fighting for. My start at SCAD was a rough transition, but it was only 10 weeks and none of my professors were dicks (except one, but that’s irrelevant) like this joker, who is clearly a failure at life taking out his anger on his students. After the first quarter ended, I was on winter break, which is almost as long as the quarter itself, extending from Thanksgiving to New Year’s because of all the international population that would prefer not to be yanked back and forth. Sounded like party time, right? Wrong! It took me almost the whole of 10 weeks to find my flow and then everything just comes to a screeching halt? I couldn’t enjoy myself because I was in a constant state of underachievement, and all I wanted was to do was more work that would feed my GPA. Basically, as great as the long break was, the only word that describes the effect it had on my mental state and adjustment to college life is *Detrimental* In this case, how does this guy expect all of his students to do nothing but work when they’ve already put in their hours and are ready to just be with their families when he’s already brought nothing but misery to their academic lives already
@@hzubovi1 I guess I'm not such an expert on cars. The movie was preceded with the old MPAA rating sign usually placed at the end of movies. That was enough to suggest to me that it wasn't set in the present.

Best movie of the year in my humble opinion.
Only by seeing trailers I come to the same conclusion.
I liked this movie but I still think Oppenheimer was the best film of 2023
@@JLee-g6wOppenheimer is my second favorite movie of 2023. This movie is #5 on that list

This is a movie that asks what is Christmas to people who are unloved, unlovable and heartbroken. It's more profound than most films.
Some people say they wish everyday could be like Christmas so just make Christmas like every other day.

Give Paul Giamatti the oscar please. He was fabulous in this, as always.
He won the golden globe. Good sign!

"Tone it down! Jesus can hear you!" had me in stitches. So perfect for the character, and so drolly delivered.
Mary is a better Mom to Angus than his own!!!! Love Mrs. Lamb!!!!❤
Fantastic movie and exceptional acting by the three main characters. Paul Giamatti in any movie makes it a great one.
A new christmas classic for sure. Just film perfection.
You’re not alone, can’t wait to watch this again during the holidays.

I will do the same! 🎄
Did you?
@DanielZuchelkowski absolutely!
The F+ grade is hilarious!! ☺️
Finally someone else sees it too! I had to say it out loud laughing in the theater for the audience to get it
The mom has been married for months and she decides to go on a Honeymoon on Christmas when she has a kid. I really hate her.
IKR. The very least thing she could’ve done was let him know a few days ahead of time

Giamatti should be the next Commissioner of Baseball ⚾️
This film will be considered a classic in the future. Great film.
This is the best film for many a year. Absolutely wonderful. Great script, great acting, beautifully filmed.
You see, movies don’t need to be blockbusters to be good.
how is the holdovers the movie to teach you this/affirm that. Is this is the first non blockbuster movie you watched?

0:24 is an F+ even a thing? I thought after D- it is just F (fail)…
If they are working with averages and weighted grades, it could make a difference
I really enjoyed this movie

I loathe Angus’ mom and her new husband so much. Many parents don’t deserve children.
