It takes some effort but these days cooking from scratch is much less expensive than fast food. There was a time I lived on brown rice and black beans. When tomatoes are in season or on sale, I throw some in, or just jarred salsa. Sometimes an egg, or when I feel rich, half a sliced avocado.

The "no money/ no time" thing only explains so much. As a European immigrant in the US, I can tell you that the majority of people all around the world have little money and little time, but no other country relies on fast food and junk food like the US. I used to have really bad acne and blamed it all on my PCOS because even skincare was barely helping. I was eating fast food every day due to financial restrictions and dietary requirements - it was the most readily available option for me at the time. I cut that out and dairy (mainly because I'm lactose intolerant) and started eating better. Still enjoy desserts and snacks once in a while when I crave it but I don't generally crave sweet foods anyway. My skin cleared up and my PCOS symptoms improved. Also, differin (used it til I ran out) and retinal help too. Most importantly sunscreen. Moral of the story: enjoy food in moderation. Poor eating habits not only cause poor complexion, but also ages the skin faster.

@@MelZel7- what happens with a lot of it is they process it so much they take a lot of the moisture out of the food, add salt and preservatives so the food lasts a long time. So if someone leaves it out, it won't decompose.

    • @8jaime8
      @8jaime8 Місяць тому +1

Exactly, both the portion size and the ingredients are completely different. Back in the 70s, McDonald’s fries were cooked in beef fat, which can handle the heat required - making them tastier and healthier than the fries today. Now they’re cooked in vegetable oils that become carcinogenic when heated to the high temperature required, and that same oil is kept boiling hot all day, becoming more toxic as the day goes on. Each fry is actually 14% vegetable oil by weight, including hydrogenated oil.
As for what goes into the food before it’s cooked, it’s all preservatives that destroy our gut flora, and additives that are in there to make the food addictive, basically drugging those that eat it. They’re trying to poison us for profit.

Omg I have acanthosis nigricans, I'm so glad she spoke on it.
As someone who has had it since middle school, I want to share my experience with it.
Somethings that I want to highlight :
    - you don't need to look or be morbidly obese to have it!!
    - you can get this at a young age!
    - it isn't just unpleasant to look at it can be legitimately uncomfortable to have, another thing is what used be comfortable and fine b4 can develop into something uncomfortable
    - ppl will judge you hardcore for having it :/
    - they can spread to other parts of your body
    - the best cure is a life style change (don't just make excuses, change your life, work out and eat better) or you might need some prescribed fungal medication
    - it honestly one of the best reasons to lose weight
Again, I had this since I was young, I know I had it even when I was size S in middle school because it is one of the things that dragged my self esteem the most. In middle school I had no idea what it was or what it was from. Nobody else in my family did either. Nobody really speaks about it so how would people know? (That's also why I wanna share my experience and knowledge about it.)
I had it for so long (literal years and I still have it) that I had to remind myself that I wasn't born with it (and also that I can get rid of it and I don't have to live w my body being this way forever). I have it on my knuckles, the back of my neck, under my breasts, on my toe joints the sides of my feet and ankles, the back of my elbows and on the inner bending part of my elbows. I think I had it around my vagina and thigh region too. Maybe my knees too? There might be other areas.
I am brown skinned but that doesn't make it any better, if anything it just makes it worse because they are 6-8 shades darker than my natural skintones (plural bc some areas I'm tanned in some and lighter in some).
I know people see it when they meet me, even thought I try to cover it up, I always have my hair down in public which might sound like a petty thing to bring up but it genuinely ruins the quality of my life bc I have to keep it down even when it's hot as hell. I always try to cover my ankles,
Some people have even commented on it, either they joke rudely about it- I'm not joking when I said it's 8 shades darker, it literally looks like a patch of ugly unhealthy skin that belongs to another person, like it wouldn't be inaccurate to say "black neck, ankles, etc". Or they ask what it is and at the time I didn't have any answer. Whether you have an answer or not it's just really embarrassing to have ppl point it out bc. Like they can see it's not normal, it's not some small pimple.
As I said in one of the bullet points, it can be very uncomfortable to have. A lot of the areas (not all) don't feel like my soft, normal areas of skin. They feel rougher and "thicker" (somehow). They look dry and unhealthy (not all areas, some areas just look dark as hell). They produce skin and pigmentation constantly (that's why it's super dark and feels rough and thick) to the point where I feel like I would have to exfoliate every day. Not just everyday, but multiple times, for a good 30+ mins everyday. And that wouldn't even help. It certainly wouldn't get rid of it, I know bc I tried. My toe joints are super itchy bc of it. I have even peeled off skin (that isn't dead) bc of how itchy it is. I can shower for 2+ hours but I feel dirty no matter what, bc w this condition bits of dead skin enough to fill my nails is pretty much constantly coming off (in the shower) and it's icky.
Honestly this condition is one of the best reasons to lose weight and keep it off personally, not just that but just to be healthy in general bc I really can't slack w my diet w this condition. If I eat horrible one day it will show up on my body, and not just in the overwhelmingly common (and honestly over normalized) form of fat.

That film led to a lot of demonizing of food (and disordered eating) by impressionable youths. Dr. Dray does a great job of listing the potential risks for fast food without outright scaremongering and demonizing it. I grew up in a rural area and there were no fast food places close by. The nearest one was about an hour away so when we would make a trip to go school shopping, Christmas shopping etc. we would have lunch at McDonald's and we thought that was a real treat. These days, even though there are many more fast food places around, I rarely eat at any of them. I'd much rather buy and cook my own food. Cheaper and I can control the ingredients. Also much better tasting in my opinion. Seeing this girl eat like that kind of makes me feel nauseous, to be honest. Sad that people think this is something they have to do in order to make money. Thanks for speaking about this and how a steady diet of fast food can affect your body in so many ways. Happy Tuesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💚

I don't watch Tiktok just for this reason. Regarding skin appearance and diet, I have a personal observation. Way back in the 70's Weight Watchers began forming local meetings for weight loss, so I joined because I wanted to drop 5 pounds however, I was already considered underweight. Thus, during the several months I followed their diet, I actually gained weight! So that was a flop but goodness, my skin had never looked more beautiful! I was young then and had to worry about bumps and such back then, it all cleared up and I had such a glow. Therefore, I say yes, diet affects the skin. I had been off sugar and had real foods. As an aside I was not eating fast food at all. I couldn't afford it.

With my parents I always eat balanced meals, with A LOT of veggies and fruits involved. When I started to live by myself, I was too lazy to cook in the beginning, so I prepared just quick fried, oily foods. Bruh, my acne raised back. And yep, it was that after years of not having it. I do eat fast food but again, once in a while.

One of the more moronic activities that we often see in the U.S. A is the eating contests. Who can eat the greater number of say hot dogs in 15 minutes,. These contests occur mostly in the summer time county fairs in small towns. The people participating in these contests appear to be having a great time watching them. The problem is that these contests have become a tradition, and a few contestants wishing to win the contest, start practicing quite in advance of the contest thereby causing additional injury to their bodies.
