His approach of music shows that this shouldn't be rigid as many people see it. During the baroque era, nobody cared about the label one would put on your voice, it was just about beauty. Singers can venture out of their boxes if done intelligently, just like here. Thank you Michael Spyres
Perhaps I don't understand your meaning, but the music is quite specific, in range and interpretation. It's something you can't see much anymore for that reason. It's for castrati. It wasn't about liberation of any sort.
I can't speak for Antoine but I think he means that within the confines of the author's intent, he is putting "his own mark" on the aria with the conductor's permission with his breath control, phrasing, loudness, and embellishment. I agree with Antoine, the piece is not a holy grail but is a specific guide to enhance the music and intentions of the composer. i see this with sacred works, it is always sung in a certain way and it gets old.
Apart from the exceptional virtuosity and span if three octaves, Mr Spyres demonstrates such nuanced and exquisite musicality and subtle tones. A treasure chest of colours and brilliance❣️❣️❣️Thank you for this stunning performance all round 💐 Love the barefooted harsichordist😄👌🏽
Today’s best tenor. Full stop. The virtuosity is fascinating - and the voice is just beautiful. I don’t want to hear any other singer in this repertoire.😊
Su voz es sobrehumana, la extensión es brutal, y en todo el registro mantiene una emision perfecta. En el minuto 5.33 tuve que volver atrás y escuchar de nuevo, no me lo creía, pasa de contralto a barítono. Dioses.
Hi again. Great album. As you obviously have a liking and understanding of the singing voice, what are your thoughts on the Canadian bass-baritone Phillippe Sly? He appears to be equally at home with baroque as well as e.g.later Schubert liede. I find him intriguing and possibly underexposed. Just wondered if you had any thoughts. many thanks. DJ.
What a magnificent album this is! Would love to hear Spyres sing Orfeo or Ulisse in Monteverdi's Operas. They really require a "baritenor" voice with floridity.
What an amazing outstanding performance. Just listen to how high his voice reaches at min 5.35 and then returns to his baritone base. It leaves anyone with a musical ear speechless.. Bravo Bravo Bravo..
Listen carefully, world of the opera today.....here is a smart lesson in tenor-singing and no need for stage design and other not real important things.....there is a need for voice voice voice and it means : acting voice and here we have it. Let Michael sing Orfeo.
Bravi🎼🫶
The singing was so good. It was so touching! If the u channel true falsetto conversion technology will be better, may wish to discuss together! Love you, brovo
Michael Spyres is one of the greatest artists of our century
ABSOLUTELY and AMEN!!!!!!!
This man is a veritable force of nature!

Yes! To all the above... nothing else to add except I hadn't noticed the bare feet 😅😂
Today’s best tenor. Full stop. The virtuosity is fascinating - and the voice is just beautiful. I don’t want to hear any other singer in this repertoire.😊

Just listened for first time. Astonishingly beautiful.
