Lawrence Brownlee, Michael Spyres - Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia: "All'idea di quel metallo"

- Two of today’s foremost tenors, Lawrence Brownlee and Michael Spyres, come together for a sensational program of Rossini in Amici e Rivali ("Friends and Rivals"), with I Virtuosi Italiani and conductor Corrado Rovaris. Discover: w.lnk.to/aerLY
"The duets that Rossini wrote for very different tenors precisely highlight our vocal strengths," says Michael. "Larry’s voice is a natural tenor voice and the clarity, beauty, and virtuosity of his singing come through abundantly in this repertoire. Conversely, I began as a baritone and my natural voice lies much lower - almost everyone asks if I am a baritone when they hear my speaking voice!"

The richness of Spyres is like swimming in a pool of delectable fudge and Brownlee is a savagely beautiful tenor. Where the hell have I been? UA-cam- you fail me with populating what I “may” like…
They sound glorious together. What a wonderful pairing!
Non credo. This are two Singer only,it'snt a very duet ,but it's good.
@@alberto7694 It is more than a duet, they mime the scene as if it was in the opera set. Their technic is phenomenal.
@@Kiarinadia з99
This is such a breath of fresh air. They sounded like male opera singers from the old times.
When a tenor is a better baritone than most. Thrilling pairing of two of the best.
The energy is unbelievable! Lawrence! Those high notes! Wow!
How are they so perfect. I have listened to this duet over 100 times.
I keep watching it, noticing every shape of their acting and their tecnique. Wonderful ❤
Extraordinaire ! Ils sont tous les deux aussi bons l'un que l'autre, avec le même genre de sensibilité et tous les deux une technique parfaitement maîtrisée. Ils ont l'air complices en plus... C'est tout simplement divin !
Michael Spyres' range always surprises and delights me!
This is nothing short of a revelation. In an age where opera singing has reached a new low, even in the greatest houses, along comes this recording with two absolutely outstanding artists. Great conducting as well. A triumph!
What lows are you speaking of?
@@AUGUSTALLEN28 Grigolo, Kaufmann, and others.
@@operadog2000 What happened did they stop singing or do you consider them of poor quality?
@@AUGUSTALLEN28 Hi, I think that Grigolo's voice has declined significantly in the past two years from constant forcing of top notes and even shouting. Kaufmann has been straining on the B-natural and sliding into the notes to the point that I cannot listen to him anymore. Both men have not been taking care of their voices, and they have not sung the repertoire that is best for them. Think of the old-school tenors like Pavarotti and Kraus who had long careers without much vocal decline. Unfortunately, Florez has not treated his voice well too. The once effortless high notes are now labored and ugly.
@@operadog2000 Thanks for your analysis. It's hard for me to get into Kaufmann either. He 's a very talented singer, but his tone seems a bit too course for my liking.
Lawrence Brownlee, an amazing tenor!!!!!!! Belcanto, French Opera...he is stupendous!!!
Spyres is a vocal Terminator! Being tenor sounds better than some baritones! Excellent job!
Two of the most wonderful singers today!
J'adore ces deux là, séparément et ensemble ils sont tellement bien assortis
What voices! What an orchestra! Wonderful! Thank you. 👏👏👏
The orchestra is the 3rd of this trio. Amazing
Brownlee is heavenly
Phenomenal. Two superstars joining forces in a showcase of musicianship and excellence.
I LOVE their duet
this is how i'd like to see the whole concert: relaxed, just makin' music
I read tons of comments about Spyres - surely incredibile! - but I just wanted to aknowledge Brownlee's vocal technique and precision when singing every-single-note! There are huge Vaccaj etudes vibes going on there haha
This is an absolute masterpiece! So full of excitement! Two of the best singers of our time :)
No.
@@alberto7694 oh that’s a shame why do you not think so?
@@Mezzomorley It is a technical problem, listen to the difference when Bastianini sings, my girlfriend who studies the ancient technique of Italian singing will be able to explain it better. My opinion is that they sing like two single singers and not as a duet, but that's just one aspect. It must be said that from Italian they are quite demanding.
@@alberto7694 I totally agree. The acting is also deficient, I would rather an absolute lack of acting .
I agree; it’s a recording not a staged performance 🎭, just amazing 🤩
Two beautiful voice, wonderful. None of you need to put your hand to the ear. Your voice is spectacular you don't need it.
Beautiful.
Just perfect, beautiful !!!!!! A great pleasure !!!!!🤩💖💝💖💝
Such a great mix of tones for Almaviva and Figaro. Spyres has some baritone in him watch out!
Both are stunning.Great operatic singers.The best American Tenors.Good job🙌🎶🙏🎶👏
¡¡ Michael Spyres , es un fenomeno vocal !!..👋👋👋👋👋..
Larry is peerless here. Absolutely phenomenal. As delightful live (if not more) as on recording.
Coppia eccezionale!! Superfluo ogni altro commento: sublime!!!!!!!!!!!
Unbelievable...it's riveting as we hear the music developing...bravi! bravi! bravi! to everybody and especially to the two amazing tenors!
Fantastic technique!!! Bravissimo!
Two singing anomalies. No words! It can't get better.
This is magical
Hermoso los dos! Gran dueto!

This fireworks made my Friday evening! Thank you for sharing this wonderful, rejuvenating and happy eight minutes of splendid craftsmanship!
Bonjour Warner,
Quel Bonheur d'apprécier votre répétition du ""Barbier de Seville"" , ressentis de joie , sérénité, et décontraction !
Merci pour le partage
Superbe les garçons.. c’est un vrai plaisir
OMG, I'm addicted to this video now ! Both are magnificent!
Sibling: Is that the same video from earlier?
Me: problem?
Oh jeez, may this pandemic end soon. I miss live Brownlee.
Michael Spyres has got to be some kind of vocal miracle, one of the first and most undeniable of this early 21st century. He's always invariably excellent, often great, sometimes nearly insurpassable in what I listen from him. What a consistently skilled and gifted singer! That's what a naturally great but, above all, very well polished and hard-worked vocal instrument can achieve. Brownlee may not have a voice as versatile and long-ranged as Spyres', but the brightness, clarity and ease of his vocal production never cease to amaze me, it's one of the most beautiful leggero tenor timbres I've ever heard, and he uses his voice with so much musical taste and a most solid technique. Always a delight. Both of them are at their best here, and their equally pefect knowledge of the style and musical tradition help them sing with a perfect combination. I'm really looking forward for this recording!
Two different voices in color and tessitura, one has to listen to Mr. Brownlee with tenor Camarena in a fantastic duet of coloratura. Don´t say Mr. Brownlee voice is not versatile ´cause is not true. Need to hear him more.
Spyres is a baritone, who developed a head voice with no chest (read: fake tenor voice) to make money from uneducated people who are easily tricked by his cheep vocal acrobatics and ugly acuti.
@@celibidache1000 Very true. like Mr. Domingo ever was.
@@victorvegas435 Two nasal tenors, who compete only who can scream the uglies acuti, and have the most aspirated coloratura...
@@victorvegas435 oh yes!
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous, how anybody can dislike this recording is beond me.This is absolute perfection to the core💝💝💝💝💝💝
Nasal AF
Perfection! Thank you.
es admirable el sr Spyres, da para tenor y baritono y de seguro para bajo, un talento unico. igual a mario del monaco
Wow! Never heard anything like this. Both the singers are outstanding!
I've just heard another performance this time of Otello (Rossini) & I can certify that Michael Spyres has NOT lost his high notes.
Bravo!
Phenomenal performance. especially from 5min 40sec,
Love hearing them sing. Anymore of their duets?
Fantastic! Greatest performance ever!!!!! Extraordinary!!!!! Beautiful voices together couldn’t be any better than that! So beautiful 😍 thank you Maestro, thank you Orchestra! Splendidly ! 👏👏👏
J’adore ce duo il me donne ma ration de bonheur quotidien!
Eccellenti entrambi!!! 💖
Vero. Molto bravi.
Beautiful! Best singing of two men in shorts ever! 😁
Neither of them are wearing shorts
They’re both wearing shorts
My favorite classical album from last year, these two are idols to me!
Extraordinary!!!,...bravissimo !
Brownlee has strong technique.
His brother is a gospel singer
And a NICE "B" side :p

Extraordinario!!! Bravissimo. I love these newly interpretations of the masterpieces, brings a new and fresh edge to light. Bravo!
Belíssimo dueto!
Espetacular interpretação! Belíssimo dueto!
Вау! Восторг!!!
Absolutely love it! Am definitely buying a copy. : -)
What's amazing is that Spyres actually sounds like a baritone, not, for instance, like Domingo who sings baritone roles but still sounds like a tenor.
He started as baritone and did work to extend his voice up high. Actually I think he does not belong to any category of singer. That ’s a vocal phenomenon
Pieter West Exactly! Of course Spyres is a voice miracle !
@@angalafan i want to hear him without mic
@@jackbigbug those are recording mikes. They don't change the sound at all.
@@angalafan He is a baritenor as he said on an interview. He is able to sing in the bariton et tenor tessiture, that's phenomenal for sure
The amount of cuts they did in this recording is just as astounding as the recording itself :D
Magnífico!
Figaro
All’idea di quel metallo
Portentoso, onnipossente,
Un vulcano la mia mente
Già comincia a diventar.
Conte
Su, vediam di quel metallo
Qualche effetto sorprendente,
Del vulcan della tua mente
Qualche mostro singolar.
Figaro
Voi dovreste travestirvi,
Per esempio… da soldato.
Conte
Da soldato?
Figaro
Sì signore.
Conte
Da soldato?.. e che si fa?..
Figaro
Oggi arriva un reggimento.
Conte
Si, m’è amico il colonnello.
Figaro
Va benon.
Conte
Ma e poi?
Figaro
Cospetto!
Dell’alloggio col biglietto
Quella porta s’aprirà.
Che ne dite, mio signore?
L’invenzione è naturale?
Conte
Oh che testa originale!
Bravo, bravo in verità.
Figaro
Oh che testa universale!
Bella, bella in verità.
Piano, piano… un’altra idea!..
Veda l’oro cosa fa.
Ubbriaco… sì ubbriaco,
Mio signor, si fingerà.
Conte
Ubbriaco?..
Figaro
Sì signore.
Conte
Ubbriaco?.. Ma perché?..
Figaro
(imitando moderatamente i moti d’un ubbriaco)
Perché d’un ch’è poco in sé,
Che dal vino casca già,
Il tutor, credete a me,
Il tutor si fiderà.
Conte e Figaro
Questa è bella per mia fé
Bravo, bravo, in verità.
Conte
Dunque…
Figaro
All’opra.
Conte
Andiam.
Figaro
Da bravo.
Conte
Vado… Oh il meglio mi scordavo!
Dimmi un po’, la tua bottega,
Per trovarti, dove sta?
Figaro
La bottega?.. non si sbaglia;
(additando fra le quinte)
Guardi bene; eccola là.
Numero quindici a mano manca,
Quattro gradini, facciata bianca,
Cinque parrucche nella vetrina,
Sopra un cartello «Pomata fina»,
Mostra in azzurro alla moderna,
V’è per insegna una lanterna…
Là senza fallo mi troverà.
Conte
Ho ben capito…
Figaro
Or vado presto.
Conte
Tu guarda bene…
Figaro
Io penso al resto.
Conte
Di te mi fido…
Figaro
Colà l’attendo.
Conte
Mio caro Figaro…
Figaro
Intendo, intendo.
Conte
Porterò meco…
Figaro
La borsa piena.
Conte
Sì, quel che vuoi, ma il resto poi…
Figaro
Oh non si dubiti, che bene andrà…
Conte
Ah che d’amore
La fiamma io sento,
Nunzia di giubilo
E di contento!
Ecco propizia
Che in sen mi scende
D’ardore insolito
Quest’alma accende
E di me stesso
Maggior mi fa.
Figaro
Delle monete
Il suon già sento!
L’oro già viene,
Viene l’argento;
Eccolo, eccolo,
Che in tasca scende,
D’ardore insolito
Quest’alma accende,
E di me stesso
Maggior mi fa.

Can't recall ever hearing this sung better. And I've heard a lotta Barbers!
Allen and Araiza
Nucci & Araiza. Tokyo 1981. Rossinian coloratura perfectly sung.
Mattei and Florez
So is Spyres a baritone? Or a tenor? I heard a beautifully resonant low note, soooo..... bass-baritone? The man is a vocal unicorn and consummate musician. These men are perfection here, btw. Brownlee is my fave leggiero.
I think Spyres kinda cheated his way up to be a tenor with a nasal sound with a lot of head voice. Here in this recording you can hear his fitting and true voice which is a rich baritone sound. I think it fits him much more and has way more charakter. Hope he stays on this path. Then theres something to look forward too :)
@@Thomas-gm3bd très juste merci beaucoup
Thomas
YES.
I'm in awe of the type of voice Sypres has. It really puzzles me how he can have such resonant low notes and then have brilliant high tenor notes. It's a phenomenon I've never seen in the History of opera.
He is a fake tenor. He is a real baritone.
Wow, what a F#2 from Spyres! Looking forward to hearing this whole album!
Bravissimo!💖
Fabulosos due estupendos... Vavro
