From wiki: The video was famous for having 65 nude women, all professional models, racing at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. It was filmed by Denis de Vallance. The group rented the stadium and several dozen bicycles for one day for filming the scene; however, when the renting company became aware of the way their bikes were used, they requested that the group purchase all the bicycle seats.
Nowadays I would purchase the seats myself and put them one by one on ebay as original (unwashed! 😁) saddles from Queen's Bicycle Race video and make a fortune. (One I would keep for myself as a collector's item. 😀)
"Fat bottomed girls will be riding today." This song was released as a Double-A side single along with Fat Bottomed Girls, and the songs reference each other ("Get on your bikes and Ride!")
Queen rented these bikes out and had to replace all the seats before returning them. Freddie wrote this after watching The Tour De France. It inspired him. LOL. Most of the time people associate this song along with Fat Bottomed Girls because during that video he says, Get on your Bikes and Ride, In reference to this song. I really enjoy your reactions. Could you please react to White Queen Live at The Odean-Hammersmith 1975, and You Take My Breath Away live from Hyde park 1976? These are some really good Queen songs from earlier in their career. I know you reacted to Under Pressure but you should react to the live version of it from Wembley Stadium 1986 and also Love of my Life from that same concert.
Alice K this song is also associated with Fat Bottomed Girls because back in the day the two songs were released as a double A-side single on 7inch vinyl.
Brian May wrote Flat Bottom Girls for Freddie because he “liked them all” that was Freddie! There is some wether this song was Brian or Rogers idea but he did do the Car one!
Queen...one of the gads of Rock n' Roll....and this song is one of my favorites....the arrangements....the harmonies....Freddie's singing.....music instruments!!!! Excellent!!!!
Jamel, you had a very clever way to hid the ”naughtiness”! And your comment/question about what did they do with all of the bicycles after making this video.....priceless!!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Mom was a Queen fan when I was a kid. Dad took the poster to his office. I asked Mom what became of it. She said that after my Dad died, she gave it to my uncle. No idea where it is, now.
I remember my little brother buying the Jazz album and it came with a poster of the starting line of the nude bicycle race. He was about 11yrs old. He grew up real quick. We still have the poster!!!
These songs by Queen can show you how huge their range of musical possibilities are; believe me, they're just A-MA-ZING: Seven Seas of Rhye, Bring Back That Leroy Brown, Seaside Rendezvous, You Take My Breath Away, My Melancholy Blues, Dragon Attack, I'm Going Slightly Mad (...and there are more where those came from!)
Despite the lyrics "Jaws was never my scene and I don't like Star Wars", Freddie actually loved Star Wars. He even had Someone dress as Darth Vader and rode on their shoulders onto stage.
Freddy got the inspiration for this song when he went to France to watch the Tour de France. His hotel window had the best view as he watch contestant after contestant ride by..............
Love Queen and love Freddie! Please react to “White Queen” live at the Hammersmith in 1975. You will not be disappointed! Such a beautiful performance and showcases Freddie’s amazing voice.
We appreciate the sacrifice on your part. A photo taken from the race was included as a poster in the Jazz album. The 45 had a nice picture sleeve as well.
Don't try to read too much into the lyrics of Queen songs. They just don't have heavy meanings. Like this song. He doesn't care about the problems of the world, he just wants to ride his bicycle.
Yeah, trying to find meaning in most of Queen's work is a pointless exercise in egotism. Read the lyrics, watch the video. There it is. Unless members of the band have said there was something sneaky they were going for, they were about as subtle as being slapped in the face with a large bass.
Here’s something that gets incredibly clear once you realize it: Freddie wrote this song as a way of dealing with the media repeatedly labeling him as either straight or gay, when in reality he was Bisexual. Hence why he uses the “you say (blank) I say (blank)” repeatedly, *and* the use of “Bi”-cycles.
OMG...I WAS JUST LISTENING TO THE "JAZZ" CD TODAY IN THE CAR!!! "JAZZ" is my absolute FAVORITE Queen album of ALL TIME....LOVE IT!!! This song is so FUN to listen to while driving....takes your mind off the traffic for sure!!!

Funny you should ask about the bicycles. They were rented from Halfords (a British auto-part/bicycle retailers) who insisted Queen had to replace the bicycle seats.
Originally Queen went by the name, Smile, Freddie was not the singer yet at this point he was a Groupe. Then the lead singer for Smile quit the band and there were looking for a lead singer and Freddie stepped up and politely said I will give it a shot . And he got the gig and Queen was born.
Queen are one of the few bands from the 'Classic' era with whom you don't request a particular single song, you request an entire album. Anything less is an insult.
Songfacts.com says "Queen rented 65 bicycles for the race. In a possibly apocryphal but often-repeated story, when the rental company found out what they were used for, they refused to take the bikes back unless the band paid for new seats."
You are the first person ever who, upon seeing this video, was concerned about what happened to the bicycles. (According to Wikipedia, the company renting the bicycles for the video shoot, upon learning that the bikes would be ridden by nude models, demanded that the band purchase the seats. Apparently, the bicycles were returned to service after the seats were replaced.)
It was the most beautiful vision I ever saw the first time I ever saw the video back in the day, and no one can ever cancel that from this old memory lol😛
When this came out, I bought the 45 for my brother, who raced bikes for decades. The sleeve had a “fat bottom girl” on a bike (rear view) with a tiny bikini bottom on it! 😂

To launch the Almum, Queen organized (permits and all) a nude race through London. That tended to draw a crowd. I believe the order was: they sang this song, sent the racers off. When the racers returned (I think it was a loop and less than 20 minutes) Then Queen did 2 more songs to hype the Almum. The woman on the cover of the Album won the race, but censors wouldn't allow the cover, so Queen edited "panties" onto her, but as minimal and poprly 8[[thee job of it
All the bikes were supplied and after the shoot the saddles were removed and destroyed. Inside the album was a fold out poster with 100 naked ladies standing by their bikes.
Oh my god... that is so funny that you asked about the seats. The producer of the song said that the bicycle company that lent them the bikes, were asking for new seats. I have it on an old Queen documentary, that was on VHS. The album this was off of, "Jazz", was kinda bonkers. Just lots of weird songs. I think there might have been a lot of "coke" and "caine" going on. lol
I love the clever censoring of the original video. Nice job Jamel. The album Jazz is the Queen tour/concert I went to. I have no idea what happened to the bicycles.
I bought my first mountain bike just before this album was released, and this song quickly became a favorite because all I wanted to do was ride my bike! LOL!
Best duet between Freddie and Roger, when they sing... You say coke, I say 'caine You say John, I say Wayne Hot dog, I say cool it man I don't wanna be the President of America....
"My balls are always bouncing My balls are always full And everybody comes and comes again" Wow, those people really liked to go dance at those fancy parties, huh?
colten bennion this song is about sex. The word "bicycle" was actually "bisexual" in the original song. Either they were not allowed to have such a suggestive song, or Queen just didn't want to come out and say it. Freddie Mercury himself was a bisexual, as he had two serious relationships in his life - one with a male and one with a female. There you have it. When he says "I want to ride my" what do you really think he was referring to?
colten bennion It's all good brother...you're not a dumbass. Back in the 70s and before that anything suggestive had to either a play on words or a metaphor. Now I'm not denying that the song was inspired by the tour de France he viewed out his hotel window but that experience enabled him to use the idea and work around it.
Awesome! Its not determined where he got the naked idea, he was just being his own outrageous, nonconformist self. One idea behind the message of the song is about embracing nonconformity, to not to follow the pack or blindly do what everyone else is doing, just think for yourself, love who you love and live life the way you want! It champions individuality and is exactly what Queen was and still is! In case you didn't catch it, the lines about not liking Star Wars or believing in Superman were mean't as a joke (Brian May clarified that on twitter). During the Jazz tour concerts, Freddie would ride on the shoulders of a big burly guy dressed as either Superman or Darth Vader during the finale singing We will rock you. Also, Brian May is of course a huge fan of Star Wars and scifi in general! Definitely check out "The Prophet's song" and "March of the Black Queen!"
In answer to your question about the bicycle seats....the bikes were rented and Queen Productions had to pay to have all the saddles replaced after the video shoot. (BTW A dedicated group of Queen fans used to follow the band during the European leg of this tour and they carried with them bicycle handlebars equipped with bells - just to ring them during the appropriate part of the song. Not that I ever did that....)
From Wikipedia: The video was famous for having 65 nude women, all professional models, racing at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. It was filmed by Denis de Vallance. The group rented the stadium and several dozen bicycles for one day for filming the scene; however, when the renting company became aware of the way their bikes were used, they requested that the group purchase all the bicycle seats.[2][6] The original video used special effects to hide the nudity.[7] However, due to the nudity, the video is age-restricted on UA-cam and banned in several countries.

Freddie loved Jaws and Star Wars, he was geeky and loved sci fi and fantasy, that’s probably why Flash Gordon got their full attention.
At concerts, people would bring their bicycle bells and play them along with that part of the song.
Queen rarely played this song in concerts. To the disappointment of those who brought those bells.
Roger's said he was upset that he wasn't around for the filming of this video. Poor dear. lol
TOO MANY great Queen songs to choose . My favorite is “Tie Your Mother Down”. It ROCKS.

Fun fact ….. where ever they played bicycle bells would sell out in all surrounding cities!
Please react to Bruce Springsteen “Ghost of Tom Joad” live featuring Tom Morello live from the rock and roll Hall of fame! Great performance!
Check out "Jazz" by Queen; their biggest album is "A Night at the Opera". I would call Queen mainstream corporate theatrical rock.
Thanks for reacting to this. I'm sure this was an editing headache, :) it's a catchy little song.
The fact that the official Queen UA-cam page can have the video but others reacting to it have to be concerned is silly. It should be fine for all.
Lmao!! "What do they do with the seats!??" Fuckin hilarious dude
They had to replace the seats, not joking
Yeah, but did they make their money back reselling them?
Wow I would never have guessed that that would be the video for this song lol
I think you already reacted to Fat Bottom Girls. That's the B-side to this song.
