This song was playing my very last day of high school as we were driving away from the school screaming out the windows!! I’ll never forget that! Great band!!
Last day of college for me!
While I had this album and this song was still popular my senior year of high school, I was blasting "School's Out" by Alice Cooper from my Pioneer Supertuner through the Rockford Fosgate speakers in my '89 Mustang, on that day in May 1989.
How freakin cool!!!! 😎
nothing said summertime like Def Leppard! 😎
Sounds like a great memory!!
Def Leppard is my favorite band. I'm 48 and I miss this time in my life.
i miss that time too 🙂
One of my favorite Def Leppard songs, ever. Great choice. I think that's now TEN songs by this amazing group you've done! Next up should be "Rocket", "Armageddon It", or "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad". Or, if you want to go back to Def Leppard's VERY beginning, check out "Wasted", which was their very first single (in the UK, in 1979). Also - If you get back to doing more Toto, they also had a bangin' song called "Animal" (with some KILLER sax!).
Seconding "Armageddon It", if only for the great pun in the chorus!
Agree. "Animal" makes it to the top of the (admittedly long) list of fav Def Leppard songs.
One of my favorite too!!!
Love & affection or gods of war!❤
@Isela Martinez hi! Just the Hysteria album as a whole one of the best rock records in history. Saw them 4 times.
Never, EVER too much Def Leppard.
I was 13 years old when this song came out. I was at my best friend's house and we were listening to Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 on the radio. He told the story of how Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident and this was their first single after that happened. I was so inspired by his comeback story and loved the song so much that I bought the Hysteria album and ended up seeing them in concert 3 times! I have so many memories that revolve around their music!
Holy crap Rick Dees! There’s a name I haven’t heard in a while!
@@ps5392 How about Casey Kasem? He did it first (and better) Signed, an ooooolllllld guy.
@@rickwelch8464 have you heard the outtake from Casey's American Top 40 where he's yelling at everyone? ua-cam.com/video/rV7WF5VVwuo/v-deo.html spoiler alert, he uses a lot of profanity and puts Christian Bale to shame!
It was actually Casey Kasem's Top 40 with host Rick Dees. Casey was the original host as well as the creator of the show. It is now Ryan Seacrest's Top 40. He purchased the production rights following Casey Kasem's death.
Guess we’re about the same age-I think I was 13 when this came out. I certainly had Hysteria on cassette.
I think every Def Leppard fan immediately recognizes them when one of their songs comes on, they absolutely have their "sound"...they always have the best backing vocals
A one armed drummer . . . that's what you call loyalty.
Yes! I wore this cassette OUT in my car back in the day. One thing about us 80’s teens is we have never stopped listening to all the great genres we had. Truly. Some good new stuff now and then, but nothing compares ❤️
I wore my cassette tape out too.i have it on cd as well so I can still listen to it.
I also wore out the cassette. Twice.
We had the best music in the 80s
The only album I've bought so many times... I killed at least 3 cassettes...
Got this on 12 inch
They were renown for their unusual and instantly recognisable art work on their album covers.
Def Leppard rocked so hard. Every song was so awesome and never disappointed.
Mutt Lange deserves a lot of credit for thier sound. Great work in the booth.
You're right. It's got great summertime vibes. Cruising the highway, top down and the wind blowing through your hair.
It's a fantastic song. Definitely one of my favourite leppard songs.
This album Hysteria ... All the songs are great...
Great album...
OH BOY YOU GUYS!!!! My favorite Def Leopard song!! In my opinion they don’t have one bad song!! Much love guys…. 💜. PS … this whole album was HUGEE
Animal is always a great song! One of many from them that last the generations!!! Hysteria.....I could go on!
Def Leppard and Van Halen were, in my mind at least, above the other “hair bands” of the 80s, which I saw as mostly competent imitators of those two and 70s bands like Aerosmith and Kiss. They distinguished themselves with their unique sounds, musicianship, and production quality. I managed to see Def Leppard in concert around the time of Hysteria. They put on a great, high quality, energetic show.
Van Halen and Def Leppard started in the 70s so that's why they are above a lot of bands.
I agree with you 100% you mentioned my two favorite bands I also love Sammy Hagar
Totally agree! Just because a band has long hair doesn't make them a hair band. True 80's hair bands also wore heavy woman's makeup and teased up their hair. Which is why they're also and more accurately known as glam metal. Bands such as Motley Crue, Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella, Stryper, etc.
DL and VH are rock bands. Not anything to do with hair metal which is seen as a derogatory term to bands. Poison was a hair metal band. Hair metal is associated with androgynous huge teased hair, and honestly big on looks and somewhat lacking for the most part in actual ability
@@flyingburritobro68 Where I agree with it being derogatory, hair metal actually a term never used in the 80s. In the 80s, while it was happening, everything was either metal or thrash metal. It was coined in the 90s by some DJ who decided if he or she called it hair metal it would seem inferior. The thing is it really just means a band popular in the 80s. I've heard every band from Poison to Iron Maiden including Def Leppard, Van Halen, Aerosmith and KISS called a hair metal band at one time. Even glam was just a gimmick to get signed and make that first album. Most if not all of those bands were over it by their second album.
This was the song that was released to announce Def Leppard's return after Rick's accident, and you better believe that everyone in the band was holding their breath! And as history has shown, it not only heralded their return, it charted the highest they'd ever been before. And they never looked back for the rest of this album.
You're absolutely correct, Amber. This is a summer song, and it was perfect for it. I still remember being an 18 year old kid, off doing my Advanced Infantry Training in the middle of nowhere, on a base that we'd have a hard time finding on the map, losing out on all the summer fun my friends were having -- but having this song blasting out of the radios and jukeboxes every single day, so we didn't have as bad a time as we could have had. Despite the isolation, we were having a hell of a lot of fun, and it's due in no small part to songs like this.
and i want, and i need animal... gotta love Deppard such a great band
I've said it once & I'll say it again . Not just because of their music but because of the character Joe Elliott , Rick Savage , Steve Clark & Phil Collen showed to Rick Allen after he lost his arm by staying with him & not replacing him with someone else , which a lot of other bands would have done . Is why I say Def Leppard is the greatest band ever .
I've said it a bunch of times, one of the best bands of all time! One of the best "performing" bands too! I've seen them many, many times! More than any other band. Whenever they come to Phoenix, my lady and me are there!!! Love you guys!!
I remember playing this in my car when this album first came out. I played this song over and over rockin my big hair. Oh the 80's...I love you!
One of my all time favorite songs from them is “Let it go” off their High and Dry album and I know Jay would love that one, it’s fast and hard!
Pretty sure they reacted to let it go
Let It Go is a great song!!!!
@@indynation6317 nope, they haven’t gotten to that one yet, they have done a few of the older ones though
So many great Def Leopard songs! Reminds me of younger days! I still enjoy Joe and the boys, yes I agree I never saw them as a hair band just plain old good rock and roll! Love them to this day what 30 years later? A def favorite!
Def Leppard was one of the big Hair Bands of the 80's . My niece loves them so much . Like crazy fan love . LOL No not crazy hiding under the bus just throwing bra crazy. She is 55 years old and been crazy since the 80's . They had that effect. This album Hysteria, (1987) sold over 20 million world wide and 20 million USA with 7 mega hits on it. Great Album.
I heard phil collen say a few months ago that the album has now sold 30 million copies. Absolutely fantastic achievement. Hysteria and pyromania are some of the greatest rock albums of all time imho.
Tell your niece I loved the curly hair guitar player and I’m 59 , she’s got good taste🤭
Hair band? I never heard them classified that way before. They were hard rock/metal because they had staying power. Hair bands were like the one hit wonders who played the part of a rock star for one video, but to each their own!
Wife here..It was so AWESOME to see these guys live in Atlanta GA last week..Even in the POURING RAIN!!..True crowdpleaser of my generation ❤
Before Def Leppard hit it big in America, I bought the On Through The Night album...because I thought the cover was cool. I had never heard of them before that. I liked that album a lot...and have been a fan since then. This summer, exactly one day after my 51st birthday...we are taking our 8 yr old daughter to see Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, and Joan Jett.
I wish you two could’ve seen the 80’s through my eyes.. the scene was everything you’re describing…
Nostalgia city for me....high school days when this came out. So good. Love them so much. Me and my ex high school girlfriend listen to this together all the time and now we talk once in a while and say to each other everytime we hear Def Leppard we think about each other. This whole album is fire.
Gigantic album, they were rising stars before but became superstars with its release and tens of millions of sales. Try Love Bites from it, Amber will love it! Enjoy. 🎵
They already did "Love Bites".
@@jp3813 OK, they do so many. I bet they have not tried Wasted from them...
@@vicprovost2561 Just search their channel.
Awesome band!! Try Donnie Iris “Ah! Leah!”🤘🔥
I saw them in concert
October 03, 1988 at Hampton Coliseum, the Hysteria Tour. They were AWESOME!! I was living in Virginia Beach and my brother, sister, & a friend had come to visit. The radio station was giving away 2 tickets. My sister called and won! She talked them into 4 tickets because they were visiting from West Virginia. We still talk about it. It was the best concert!
Rick Allen's drumkit is incredible. And the fact the band waited for his recovery and return shows their humanity.
This was the song that made me love Def Leppard. I saw the video on MTV, and yes young people they actually used to play music on that channel. I went out and bought Hysteria on cassette. I love that Def Leppard has a new album. New music from an amazing group still rocking!
Rick from Def Leppard is one of my all time favorite Drummers in rock music. He has one arm and plays phenomenal.
The sound of this song is like a time machine sending me back to 8th grade. It was my introduction to def leppard & was their first song when they came back from the drummer losing his arm.
All right my babies.....Def Leppard kicks off their stadium tour tomorrow night! You may want to grab some tickets for a concert in your region. They truly put on a phenomenal show ❗ 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
After Rick lost his arm the drum set they created for him was amazing. Saw them in concert and his feet never stop moving it was amazing to watch. If you haven't yet reacted to their song LOVE BITES you must for me is my favorite song by them.
They originally planned to use two drummers, Jeff Rich at that time with Status Quo was the other...They played a few very low key shows around Ireland. After a couple of shows Jeff had to fly out to play a Quo gig and fly back again for the Leppard show....his plane or taxi was late and he missed most of the show. Rick was able to do the show on his own and Jeff was cool about being no longer needed, Rick has been on his own ever since.
Def Leppard has their own unique awsome sound! I first heard Def Leppard when I was 4 back in 1983 and here I am almost 43 years old and Def Leppard IS still my favorite band! They just plain Kick-ass!
This is the song that alienated every British rock fan and endeared them to Americans, Def Leppard are peretty much reviled in the uk now by true rockers.
Rick's left foot replaced his left arm. Absolutely amazing. Joe helped him all through the rehab and had a lot to do with the new electronic setup idea to allow him to be a drummer again. I'd say he's the only one armed drummer in history.
R.I.P. Stephen Clark (23 April 1960 - 8 January 1991) , guitarist in the hay. There will never be anyone like him.
I cried so hard when he passed away! So sad they tried to get him help for his drinking problem!! Steve was an amazing guitarist!!
@@lisarusso6152, He definitely added flair and fun to the band. The stage is where he wanted to be.
Love me some Def Leppard!! They are great in concert! Saw them in the late 1980’s!! Had a thing for Joe Elliot… lol..
I'm right there with you about Joe Elliott!! Gorgeous man ❤
So Def Leppard has so many great songs and one that came later “Work it Out” is a great tribute to keeping the rocker vibe alive!!
I took my brother to see Def Leppard for his birthday many years ago, 1980-something. They were great and still sound just as good.
All I can say is I love them. Will always be my favorite band. 😍
This was such a great time in music for live concerts. Def Leppard "In the Round" was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Tesla opened the show. Sacramento, CA 1988
Def is very much "old school recording". They take a guitar, plug it into an amp. and record that. No effects, just play guitar and that works for them. The vocal tracks, however, are very much Mutt Lange, their producer and engineer- tons of overdubs of the vocals, which is what fattens the chorus vocals. The band got started when they were very young, teenagers for the most part.
I cannot tell you how nice it is to see someone else enjoy and love Def Leppard. I grew up in the 80s with friends who were a bit snobby with their music tastes and, to this day, still tease me about loving Def Leppard. They were stuck on the Grateful Dead (which can be fun background backyard BBQ music), Bob Dylan, Sonic Youth, the Pixies, My Bloody Valentine and other bands, that, yes, have some unique music, but nothing, I mean nothing compares to the SONIC empowering sound of Def Leppard that never fails to pick me up.
One of my favorite bands as well. I absolutely love this song! You really need to hear Hysteria too. It's another one of their greats!
Billy Squier/Def Leeppard was my first concert. It was also Def Leppards first tour. It was before Rick Allen's accident. I saw them again the first tour after Rick's accident. I am in the pour some sugar on me video. You can't see me but when they show the crowd I am one of them. I'm going to see them again this year!! CAN"T WAIT!!!
I am right there with you…absolutely love this band!! Their music is timeless and they still rock it today!
Grandes los Def...de verdad marcaron el rock de los 80, clásico... saludos desde sudamérica -chile!!!!!!👍🇨🇱
One of my favourite guitarists of all time, along with David Gilmour, is the brilliant and talented late Steve Clark from Def Leppard. Like Gilmour always played for the song, not his ego. A beautiful, gentle and gorgeous soul who deserved a longer life and we deserved more of his music. Will always grieve for him and miss him, even after 31 years.
I saw Def Leapard Cheap Trick and Kansas 35 years ago. It was a legendary concert! Oh to go back. Great Memories!
Def Leppard is in my top 5! I remember when their first album was released here in the 80s all of us were writing everything in the same script as their name. Such good memories around this group!
My absolute favorite
Def Leppard song
You should check out one of their new songs from 2022 “Take What You Want” or “Kick” - 45 years and counting they still rock
ONE OF THE BEST ROCK SONGS OF ALL TIME AND ONE OF THE BEST ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME💯 TOP 3 FOR SURE!!!!!
Though this was the second single from the Hysteria album in 1987, it was quite literally the (re)introduction of Rick Allen and his new foot-activated drum kit. The first time I heard this song, I was riding shotgun in a friend's car. I thought Def Leppard had hired a new drummer, but my friend said "Nope, it's the same guy." I was instantly blown away! I just HAD to get a copy for myself!
I have never missed them in concert and can’t wait to see them again in September
My favorite Def Leppard song. Great chord change going into chorus.
My best friend married Phil Collin's first cousin. So I've had the opportunity several times for backstage passes. And each member of Def Leppard are down to earth and some of the coolest guys
In the summer of 1998 I saw them in concert while they were touring forthis album. It was incredible! They were amazing live performers. I remember the feeling of the crowd. Just alive and on a natural high.
Def Leppard, our local boys from Sheffield, Yorkshire UK 🇬🇧 my teenage playlist, & still a favourite 😍 R.I.P Steve Clark, the original & brilliant lead guitarist ❤️
This song was 2 years in the making... They came up with the song in 1984 but could never get it to sound right in the studio until 1986 and they finally put it on their Hysteria album in 1987.
Well worth the wait! 🤘
My favorite band ever!! Them and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Love em! Also Long Live Tom Petty and Steve Clark. May they both rest in peace 🙏🏻💙🙌🏻
Animal is a great song! Love this song, love this band! Hysteria was a near perfect album!
And you still have more of it to react to! Rocket, Women, and Armageddon It!
I don't really think of DL as a hair band, they were Brittish and all the bands I really thought of as Hair bands came out of L.A. or at least America. When I think of hair bands I think of Cinderella, Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, Faster Pussycat, White Lion, Ratt, Kix and maybe WASP (who you should react to, but not their song "Animal" cause well, maybe not family friendly LMAO!!)
To me Def Leppard, GNR, and Bon Jovi, even Whitesnake, may Technically be considered hair bands, but they were just far enough for me outside of the mold to just never think of them that way.
Exactly - damn near perfect!
Great song and great band. Going to see them tomorrow night in Atlanta. They will be there with Motley Crew, Poison, and Joan Jett. Should be a great concert. Can't go wrong with Def Leppard songs though. Don't think they have a bad song.
@Randall Holliday, I’m in Georgia take me!!!!! Lol
Oh man, that sounds fun! I feel we are all young again listening to this…
I see them all in Houston. I can’t wait
You lucky thing!!! Enjoy!!!! Xx 💛💜❤💚
Holy shit they’re still touring?!
Amazing drummer. Inspirational. No one ever would have dreamed of him coming back, let alone still rocking it!
We always scratched our heads in amazement at how much the yanks liked our deff leopard .they loved doing usa
I seen them live about 10 years ago and they sounded just as great then as they did back in the day. One of my favorite bands.
Love this band. I grew up on this music. I remember driving with family from california to Idaho listening to this music. Good times
When reacting to Def Leppard Hysteria and earlier, don't forget to mention guitar player Steve Clark RIP. He was a VERY underrated guitar player! ❤️🎼🎸🌼
This is one of my favorite songs when I run. Hearing it lights my afterburners!
My mum's favourite band, played this track at her funeral. Such a great album
The chorus of this song is perfection. The melody, the harmonies, the feel. One of the best things to come out of the 80's.
I love Def Leppard so much. I've been lucky enough to see them twice. I wanted to go again. They are touring with Toto. What a great concert THAT would be. This is one of my FAVORITES of their songs. So good!!
Oh my gosh, that would be awesome!
Every song on Hysteria is Magic, Fire and Awesome!! Awesome reaction as always!!! Thanks!!!
This has always been my favorite from Leppard. 👍 It flows so well.
Lead single off 'Hysteria' that dominated the charts 1987-89 with seven singles released. Loving their current album too.
Maybe my favorite Def Leppard song. Also try Comin' Under Fire and Blood Runs Cold.
Comin' Under Fire and Stage Fright are my 2 favorites 🤘
Def Leppard and Whitesnake are my 2 all time favorite bands. Seen them together in 87 with Europe and Motley Crew. It was an outside, all day concert in a huge valley. Over 100,000 people was there. Fun day!
You should watch the Def Leppard movie about them.
Summer of '87 and barbeques and this song playing everywhere...
Again, one of my all time favorite bands, just neck and neck with Boston. Love all Def Leppard songs and this one is up there. Got to see a DL concert a few years back here in OKC, it was awesome.
December 1987 - Def Lep in their prime just kicked ass!
This was my favourite video and song from the Hysteria album. I loved all the circus workers were featured in the video.
It took months for me to watch, let alone listen to this one after Steve died. He was and will always be my fave member of Leppard. I was crushed when he died. I was about 15 or 16 at the time.
Great tune. Def Leppard broke the mold when they released the Hysteria album.
The late great Steve Clark on the main guitar working, while Phil Collen with the overdubs and Guitar Solo
My absolute favorite Def Leppard song!
"Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad", and "Two Steps Behind", by Def Leppard should be reacted to...😀😀
My step brother at the time, Doug, directed this video. It was always nice getting a heads up when these came out back in the day.
YES, JAY!! They DO have a very distinct sound! They have always been and always will be my favorite band!!!!
Just seen this group last night in Nashville whom was performing with other rock bands there and let’s just say Def Leppard absolutely stoled the show if you have never seen them in concert all I can say is your missing out
The Def leppard the best rock band in the world in the 1980 and 90'too
I'm a lifelong Leppard fan. I would like to suggest Gods of War from the album Hysteria. It was an unreleased track. To me, there is no bad Def Leppard song. Not sure if you heard the new one called Kick but it's worth checking out too. A few lesser known ones to check out include Breathe A Sigh, Heaven Is, You Got Me Runnin' and Back In Your Face. They are unreal live.
God's of War is an awesome live song too! Rocket as well kicks butt live!
"Gods of War" is a hidden gem and oh so fantastic!
I also love Tear It Down, originally a B side for a single from Hysteria (I cannot remember), but was released on Adrenalized. Such a rockin tune!
Had to buy this album and to this day I still have my album. Had the opportunity to see them live few times live back in the 80s. To this day they still rock. High school memories.
I was into New Wave on the 80s (Duran Duran, The Cure, Thompson Twins...) but Def Leppard was my favorite rock band. Saw them in concert a few years ago and still great.
This is how the 80’s worked….hey wanna go see Def Leppard tomorrow…sure!
My favorite rock group, I was a teen when they came out and I still listen to them today, love them. I agree that Def Leppard has a very distinct sound. "TOO LATE FOR LOVE" and "HAVE YOU EVER NEEDED SOMEONE SO BAD" are more great songs from Def Leppard. Love you guys!!
This is definitely one of my favourites from that time and it brings back so many memories.
