That’s an awesome grinder. That would make a factory edge on it. I’m using an angle grinder by hand and it’s not perfect. I just keep telling myself it’s better than when I took it off 😂
What we do we do and this came down from my PePa in the spring before we start we change all the plunger bearings and sharpen and set the knives. This keeps the plunger running straight and of course the knives sharp. So when I got old enough to start helping PePa I had to crawl up in the bale chamber to handle the knives. We never had any trouble with our baler operating properly but of course, we ran wire baler not string baler so about every five or three years we have to take the knoters off and weld up the grove and you are in them. We bought a used 316 I think it was, from a guy down the road and we like to never got that thing timed, that was where I learned to weld up the needles.
Dennis, you do have some fantastic shop toys. I always hate making all of those chamber and plunger adjustments. It seems like it is so easy to get things just a little bit too tight and/or just a little bit too loose, especially in older, well worn bale chambers. Making sure the bale chamber is squared up, right on, is extremely important on square balers also. Adjusting baler play correctly is one of my least liked maintenance items, but it is extremely important to make great, high quality bales. It is amazing how good some pretty well worn balers can do regarding making nice bales, if all the things you discussed are done to the best of your ability, even if the machine would likely be considered not capable of doing a good job. +PA Farms. Try the same shims on your new blades and turn the flywheel by hand and check clearance with a feeler gage should be ..010 to .030 thousandths if not shim accordingly. It's kind of a pain in the butt. The owners manual for my baler has some good info on it yours may also.
Hello from Bristol, hi Dennis. I noticed your heavy jacket on. We had 2 days in the low 30’s and am guessing that’s when ya made this video. I don’t know why I never cut myself until I’ve just had my jackknife sharpened. Seems like I’m not the only one . It rained all day sat last weekend and tomorrow it’s 50% again. Geez 2 Saturday’s in a row. I liked the last few videos but didn’t comment cause someone beat me to it, but I’m still here. Taker easy, see ya on the next one
Also something to consider about checking your gear boxes is if they are considerably low which I know is unlikely they would have more air room and could accumulate more condensation. That’s probably nothing to really be concerned about until spring though and if they were that low you’d have oil leaking somewhere.
Always hear you talk about equipment maintenance. All the money invested and how down time can rob you blind... yeah the consumer has no idea what it takes to farm. Took me a while to understand and I'm new to farming. (retirement job for me). Seems like a farmer needs to be a mechanic, a scientist, a businessman, and maybe a couple of other hats to wear.

+B Jenkins We mostly just work on our own equipment we have around 100 pieces of iron floating around, yes it's much much cheaper to fix and maintain your own equipment. Sometimes though we help a neighbor fix or service something.
good night, I have a new holland 565 machine and the knives separate when they are going to find out what the concern will be! The bearings are fine and the piston does not move laterally?
+Tyler Carlson. No the 6.0 is a company dump truck. It's still in use. My company truck was a red 2001 Ford f350 with the 7.3 we still have it also but the ram has taken it's place as my daily driver the ford needs some work but it's not going anywhere.

Should spray those Knives with Silicone and Chain Lube on Chains so the dont rust over the winter.. Nice Video.

That grinder is awesome. Who makes it? Is it actually made for just baler blades or is it a universal type deal?
