Replacing 2002 Honda Accord Lights for Clock and Vent Controls

  • The lights were burned out in both the clock and vent controls of my 2002 Honda Accord EX. If you can find the right replacement bulbs from an online source like Honda Parts Now, Majestic Honda or Honda Village - none of my local Honda dealers had these lights - they are easy to replace. Just be sure to use plastic pry bars that are soft enough to break before you damage the faceplates or covers.
The clock backlight is part of the "Switch" diagram in Honda parts. The vent control lights are part of the "Heater Control" Honda parts diagram.
You can also find the lamp at online electronic parts sellers (the lamp is the actual bulb without the neo-wedge holder). The lamps are usually 14 volts, .040 to .100 amps and it's not hard to replace the new bulb in the old holder, so long as you don't mind working with very tiny parts.
The vent control light bulb is found in the Honda Accord parts diagram. Go to somewhere like Hondapartsnow.com, find your car model, then "Electrical / Exhaust / Heater / Fuel", then "Switch", then (on the 2000 Accord 4-DR, LX that I tried), it's part #1 = 35505-S84-B02 or 35505-S84-N01. I think they're 2 different manufacturer's but the either one will fit.

Good to know since all the Accords from1998-2002 come out the same way. I'm replacing the climate control unit so I'll do it this week for my daughter...
    Thanks for the video...

Great video man!! Only thing is I would have changed all the bulbs out while you had it apart because the old ones left will probably go out next. All in all good video though. Thanks man!!

I looked up my order and I bought both types of bulbs from @t The back of the clock used one 35505-S84-B02, Bulb, Neo-Wedge (T3) for about $1.60 each and the heater control lights used as many as three 35851-SP1-901 Bulb B, Neo-Wedge (14V 100Ma) at $4.56 for each tiny bulb. It might also need one or two bulbs for the rotating heater knobs - Lamp, Wedge Base (14V 80MA) 79671-S84-A01 at about $4.48 for each tiny bulb. A lot of money for some little lights, but WAY cheaper than taking it to the dealer.
Please note that these are the bulbs for my 2002 Accord EX 4-speed automatic. You should check @t or @t or @t and look up your year / model / style in the "Switch" diagram for the clock light and the "Heater Control" diagram for the heater button/dial lights. I've bought from all 3 Honda parts online sellers and they're all really good.

i bought the clock globe for my Honda accord 1998/99 and asked the Honda dealer if i just pop out the clock thingy, ( just to check that was ok) he was quite rude and rather abruptly said " you can't do that!' like I was some idiot and then said I needed to tale the entire console off as " it's all screwed in" so if the screw to take off the console i BEHIND the clock how do i unscrew the console ? what a rude muppet that guy was, i think he expected me to say " oh i guess I'll need to book it in to Honda to get it done" well i didn't!!

Yes, the clock should light up whenever the headlights are on. Bonus fact: The same is true for the odometer which also burns out frequently without anyone noticing.

The bulbs are different for each model of Accord. Try going to HondaPartsNow.com then put in the year / make / model of your car, then click on Electrical then Switch, then the diagram will show the bulb behind the clock and its part number. For the heater control dial light, also go to Electrical, then Heater Control, then the diagram will show the bulb behind the heater controls. It's not the same bulb for every car.
This is the page for a 2002 Accord EX (UV), but it won't help if your car is different. www.hondapartsnow.com/parts-list/2002-honda-accord--4dr_ex_ul-kl_4at/electrical_exhaust_heater_fuel/heater_control.html www.hondapartsnow.com/parts-list/2002-honda-accord--4dr_ex_ul-kl_4at/electrical_exhaust_heater_fuel/switch.html

The part numbers that I used are in the description, but it would vary by what year and model you have - and sometimes whether it was built in Japan or Canada. For a 2002 Accord EX vent control bulb: Go to somewhere like Hondapartsnow.com, find your car model, then "Electrical / Exhaust / Heater / Fuel", then "Switch", then (on the 2000 Accord 4-DR, LX that I tried), it's part #1 = 35505-S84-B02 or 35505-S84-N01.
