The GENIUS Way Arsenal Dominated Man City In The Community Shield

- Arsenal have won the 2023 Community Shield, beating Manchester City 4-1 on Penalties after a 1-1 draw. But while they were mere seconds from losing the game, they did something few have ever managed against Pep Guardiola's team... dominate them on and off the ball for long chunks of the match.

The bit where Partey got spun for their goal Rice actually makes the interception again from Fodens pass out wide. Just unlucky Tierney couldnt get a decent contact on the clearance
Foden was only able to spin away from Partey because he was already on a yellow. He will usually bring him down or pull him back to break the play…
And the yellow for Partey was a bs one.
I think that’s Havertz, rice was off
Partey reminded me of Song. Really good at what he does but sometimes make the stupidest decisions 😂
@@Alien58243 That's hardly an argument is it? Basically "Partey was able to cheat less because he was already on a yellow."
Dumb comment
I thought Arsenal were mostly very good.
And I love the way they celebrate even relatively minor victories.
Every win should mean everything to every team - the way it does to supporters.
And screw the celebration police.

Even though they parked the bus? But not afraid right?
@@bustagina4273 You aren't very smart are you? Where did Arsenal park the bus??? Both City and Arsenal had periods where they did not have posession and were camped in their half being compact as they should. That is not parking the bus. @@LD_124_ it sounds good for a friendly we shall see what happens in a real game that useless keeper won the FA cup last season btw what did your team win last season?
I have to show this video to my dad, he could not understand why I was so happy watching the game, he just kept wishing they’d go in on them and press but I was elated that they were doing the exact opposite, that 4-1 defeat to them last year was the worst display I’ve seen from this team that whole season, we’ve learned and I’m delighted to see that
I watched the 4-1 defeat with my dad. I told him before the game that Holding will definitely cost us the game. Definitely glad Holding was not playing yesterday.
It looks weird at the surface, but pressing the goalkeeper is actually exactly what City want when they push up like that. They’re essentially looking to invite the press, move the ball quickly side ways and then hope one of their more central players get left open because 9/10 times, the player that’ll press the GK is either a Striker or a midfielder in our case.
But instead, we were disciplined. We let them have it there and marked Rodri and Kovacic out of large parts of the game. Turns out it hard for them to move the ball more than sideways if that press never comes.
@@snaggiz yeah, I noticed Havertz was struggling NOT to press Ortega. It was hilarious.
@@haziqshams Yeah, takes a lot of discipline. But it’s a complete bait. I’m glad our front players didn’t fall for it.
It was actually very tight game, at least in the second half. No domination from either side but some enjoyable tactics. Arsenal was more impressive in the first half. Man City was pretty much unable to play their game but Arsenal's focus on high press meant that they didn't produce that much either. Pep switched to box midfield in the second half as a response. Both teams got a goal. Man City from an unlikely source. Nice shot from a young lad. New rules played a part with the 8 min added time (head clash prolonged it to ~11 min). Arsenal subbed in all their forwards and pushed until the very end. With luck, they managed to get a goal, and then they won the penalties. Congratulations to Arsenal! It was a good game.
Haters saying Arteta and arsenal were celebrating as if they won the league, so stupid to say because when City scored, guardiola celebrated like it was a champions league final, no body complained about that but because arsenal won the game, they start to run their mouth..
Let em talked their talk bra, when we win we’ll talk
Its because your fan base AFTV said the Carabao Cup meant nothing after Man U said they had a more successful season than Arsenal because they finished top 4 with a trophy (Carabao) So if thats the case don't be celebrating this paper cup that you only were in by default. You won nothing last season you LOSERS!
Pep was celebrating like that cause the academy player scored a wonderful goal.
He must have felt like a genius for starting Palmer.
Starting Palmer.. Did you watch the game bro?
@@abhisheksavant4307 🤣🤣🤣so he jumped up and was happy celebrating just because palmer scored and not because they were winning right?
Justification everywhere!!!😂..so when arsenal scored and his mood changed, I guess it was because he realized palmers goal wasn't gonna be the winning goal 😂
The Partey Rice partnership looked very good
Rice is learning fast - Partey we overburden but what a rhythm he sets
Once we slowed down our first pass after a regain - we had them
Top level game and City are great and Arsenal are coming fast
How do we overburden Partey? He was terrible yesterday. He actually has a very poor understanding of rhythm and is often way too aggressive with his passing leading to a loss in control.
@@ammantesfaye get an eye check as soon as possible
@@ammantesfayebro don’t know what the hell u watched, no player was a passenger in that game, everyone played their roles in and out of possession, partey was good considering his yellow card was shocking cos it wasn’t worth it, while Rodri as usual got away with so many tactical fouls and shI and man still didn’t get a yellow the ref was atrocious it was like he was blind to city’s fouls

"tactical domination" not scoreline or possession domination
I absolutely rate this channel for quality analysis! I’ve been watching many things said about Arteta’s Arsenal but very few get it as close to accurate as this.
Excellent work done for each sessions that I’ve ever watched. Keep it up.
This is why I subscribe to this channel.💯
Fantastic analysis. Anyone closely watching the game understands that Rice was outstanding off the ball, almost negated Rodri's influence in the game. Kudos 442
this video really showed me how good the performance was from Declan Rice
Spot on bro; Arteta tactically savvy here and he's got the players to do it,bar that Tierney slip up,after Partey dusting for the Palmer goal. Haaland neutered by Saliba,no effect at all! Something for Arteta, overall, to build on,sharpen, mold players into a more cohesive squad?

After getting overrun in the center of the midfield at the Etihad with Partey out, Arsenal played Partey and Rice in front of Saliba and Gabriel and stayed compact and tight past the halfway line allowing the CBs to pass back and forth and forcing them outside where they struggled to create anything.
Partey was playing at Etihad, wdym he's out
Dominated? How. City had more possession, more shots, a higher xG, more passes. So how did Arsenal dominate? All that happened was Arsenal got a double-deflection in stoppage time to score. This video wouldn’t exist without that, let’s be real.
I loved the controlled press from Havertz and Rice in the first half
That wouldn't be possible with Zini or xhaka. Rice is very Athletic
Both teams had each good halves. Arsenal deserved a draw before penalty because of the chances they had in the first 45. I am not bitter losing to them.
Great breakdown! Subscribed
amazing vid, so good analysis! keep it comin!!!
It does matter, and it is a 'real trophy! Any game at Wembley is significant, there are 20 other teams that would love to have played this match - its actually a privilege to be able to play a Community Shield!
Love you man, love fourfourtwo. I'm even going to be referencing you and your work in my new channel designed for football manager. I hope it's okay. I'd be doing the necessary credits too.
Arsenal played with 4 CB. The Arteta revolution is insane.
This brudda just copies Arteta
Dude. As an American (who grew up playing both soccer and baseball), that swing at the end....ouch...lol...I definitely appreciate all the segue ways and humor, but...yeah, I can't unsee that.
Love the hightlights under the players since the stills are potato quality! While City is increasingly reliant on KDB, Arsenal struggled creating last season when either Partey or Odegaard was missing. This looks much better with Timber, Rice and Havertz on the left side.
Great vid. You guys are shinning
Excellent analysis. Read/watched various pieces but this by far was the most informative & entertaining. Good job 👏
Great take on arsenals tactics, I think the sign of Declan Rice is so critical that Arsenal play a good game with him and hopefully they have a counterintuitive without him because he’s going to be important. Man City however will still dominate the league they need to focus a lot on finding creatives aside from the Dbrunye is going to win the league . I think he needs two more signs play a right wing complete. Where’s the position inside and outside and also a new number eight that is my opinion.
What an analysis...hats off man
You do realize City had more possession, shots and shots on target, right? So how did Arsenal 'dominate' with a deflection goal from 101st minute?
He doesn't know what dominance means prolly
Lol, Inter looked better at shutting City down than Arsenal yesterday. Let's be honest, Brentford even did it twice... Sooo, calm down.
So Inter looked better but ended up losing the match? I think you need to calm down
@@TheKh65 They did lol, I was tense during that match as a City fan because they nullified our strongest team. Arsenal on the other hand played well, but contrary to the video title, which is what I am commenting about, they didn't dominate us.

"dominated" is an absurd adjective considering they equalized in added time due to a deflection...dominated means winning by at least 2 goals, certainly not by winning a PK shootout
People keep referring to the Community Shield as a friendly, it's not, it is recognised as a competitive match by the FA, and is a trophy (though it is minor)
It is and has always been a friendly.
It was called the CHARITY Shield for a reason. It isn't serious. Never was.

What domination ? Won on pens due to deflected goal at 101 mins. It was a close game.
It's not city Arsenal need to be afraid of - it's the other teams in the bottom half of the league. Just like last season!
not as much anymore. we’ve gotten better at dealing with low block playing teams with signings like Timber and Havertz who can operate in and create space with ease. and with Trossard getting in elite form right now i’m more worried about the bigger sides again, we’re gonna steamroll a lot of teams this season
Lets just get one thing straight, nobody dominated anyone in that game ...
Agreed.
City lost a lot with Gundogan and Mahrez departure. As you pointed out, KDB is now their only hope. It probably won’t suffice to win the PL again.
Great job 👍. I really like this analysis
Dominated isnt a word that should be used to describe this game, in regards to either team. This was a relatively even, if not overall lackluster, match across the board.
You've done it now, peps going to play Gvardiol as an inverted CB/10
Lol is Kroenke funding fourfourtwo?
Arsenal still lacked directness on more than one or two occasions where the a winger and makeshift CF (Havertz or Rice/Odegaard or other winger) were waiting within the box, but no cross or ball was incoming. They continued to play through the defence and with build-up play, but they need to surprise their opponents every now and again. Otherwise, it becomes too predictable and easy to stifle. The Everton away game was the most clear display of this.
We need a method to troubleshoot and iterate chances in these situations. It was severely lacking and cost us in two or three games. The draws to Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton were all mental losses and lack of personnel. I think the mental aspect has improved with Rice and Timber in the squad, as this win is likely to do also.
Agreed. And shoot more. Trossard did it, and look what happened. It’s also a psychological thing. When I was young, it was always about “stinging the goalkeeper’s gloves” at the start of each game and each half. Let him know you’re there. We need to do that. A psychological shot on target (or two), every so often. Even if it’s down his throat.
Excellent analysis.
Excellent
This is actually brilliant

I would’ve loved to have kept xhaka for just that bit of extra depth in the squad. I’m actually upset he left. We could have used his fighting spirit and leadership in the upcoming season.
He wanted a new challenge, and there was no way he was staying if he wasn’t starting. Plus he got a really good contract offer and we got a solid amount in return. He’ll be missed but we have to move players on sometimes if we want to be the best.
