In the City v Chelsea game, the best chances Chelsea had and certainly the one they had the lead from were from exactly what Arsenal were trying to do on the transition in this game. They just didn't take their chance. I find it really regretful that Martinelli wasnt fully fit for this game and we don't have another speedy winger to fully exploit them. Trossard is great, but several times this season, he just wasnt fast enough to exploit a chance on the wing.
People on social media calling out Arsenal with names like "haram football". I don't really blame them. Yes, it was tactical and planned ahead... but it's also very un-Arsenal (at least the Arsenal most people are used to). And yet, we can all agree that this is another step in Arsenal's growing evolution. We all know that Arteta's men can play free-flowing, high press suffocating, attractive "halal" football. But to get everyone onboard to switch 180 degrees and play park-the-bus, concede-20-fouls, put-you-to-sleep "haram" is also somewhat impressive.
LFC fan here, and watching this match was painful (other than the result) but you really helped me see the tactical moves and I can better appreciate the battle that was being waged on the pitch. And you're funny AF 🤘🏻
In today's football it's impossible to use the same tactics whole season long. There will be adjustments along the way and also depends on how the opponents operate and where you play (home/away). Casuals only sees goals and can't see beyond, but they speak the loudest as if they know everything. Just look at the bitter comments here.
I believe that he was looking to take one touch, then send it with his second. If his first touch was good, I have no doubt that the would have picked out Martinelli's run, but his first touch let him down.
Rival fans and mainstream media are gaslighting us Arsenal fans into thinking going for it immaturely like Liverpool was the way to go about it. The hate is real
Liverpool also drew 1-1 with Man Cheaty. 🤔They are top of the Premier League table despite playing two kids, their third choice left back and their rookie reserve keeper for a nearly a quarter of the season... Have some respect and don't deflect!

I think City have more skilful players and as a team you have to play to your strengths and Arsenal tactics was spot on. People forget that Arteta played under David Moyes.
When City had controlled possession in Arsenal's half, Arsenal defended in a low-block system. This means that the distance between Arsenal's defensive lines and their goalkeeper was kept at a minimal. This consequently meant that one of Haaland's main strengths which is running in behind from Kdb's through balls was largely cut-out. I'd have preferred Pep to have taken out Haaland and either moved Foden in that false 9 role or brought in Alvarez to play that role. The combination of Haaland and KDB was simply not working against a well-organized and defensive-minded Arsenal. Had Pep brought in Alvarez or moved Foden to the middle, it would have allowed City to play quick passing combinations to open up Arsenal. Additionally, Haaland offers very little without the ball. He does not press as intensely as his other City forwards.
I don’t think so arsenal players are huge and physically powerful Alvarez and foden have no pace and power that will allow arsenal midfield keep the ball just like emirates game 50/50 possession. In this game focus was denying spaces Rodri and kdb
@@AbdiazizAbdi-q5e With Partey still not ready, the only ball handler we have on show in midfield yesterday was Odegaard. Jorginho is way past it and Rice is no Busquet. Which gave City the license to press us because our two deepest midfielders ain't press resistant. A fully fit and inform Partey would've gave us more bite and presence in midfield. We definitely should go for Zubimendi this summer.
@@collinflowers9741 arsenal missed martineli fit and fit saka arteta was wrong to play saka half fit and Jorginho didn’t do anything to pass the ball better partey made big difference. don’t confuse ball possession city passing the ball between two defenders and Rodri arsenal had more touches in opposition box than city
Arsenal was trying to do to City in Manchester what Porto did to Arsenal at the Dragon Stadium. The difference was that Porto managed to score in the last minute but Arsenal could not.
I think this was the reason Arsene Wenger's Arsenal never won the league after 2005. Teams started playing tactically to nullify opposition while Arsene just stuck to his style of play
personally I wasn't bored, it was a slow burn of a game but had a lot of intensity from both sides. I was on the edge of my seat, and I'm a fairly neutral fan (wanted Arsenal to win tho)
Another thing worth noting is that there was also a small window to slide the ball over to Havertz after the Martinelli pass window closed. Trossard missed both windows.
The salty city fans in the comments is hilarious. The fact that they are the first side in over 3 years to stop city scoring at home in the premier league and nearly every team have came to city and essentially parked the bus and played on the counter for 3+ years except maybe liverpool, and not one of them including liverpool stopped city from scoring shows how tactically and defensively good this Arsenal team are. Whether you hate Arsenal or not people need to accept the fact that this Arsenal team will be challenging for the league for the next 5 years plus as much as i hate to admit this myself as a Chelsea fan. They are still going to get better and are still one of the youngest teams in the league. Plus thier wage bill each season currently is far less than city's and liverpool's and even our Chelsea's team has a higher wage bill. I didn't think Arteta was any good until last season and unfortunately for us rivals he is the real deal and so are Arsenal hate it or love it. I want liverpool to win it but honestly any of them still can. As all 3 teams will drop points somewhere along the way. Peace out guys.
Mikel is clearly on the verge of (if not already) outdoing Pep in strategy. Pep had a furrowed brow through most of the game as if to say: “I’ve met my match.” Has the pretender finally earned the crown?
As an Arsenal fan I must say when trossard had that opportunity I was screaming play it through to martinelli and when he took a heavy touch I nearly broke my tv from anger Arteta absolutely dealt with pep’s tactics immaculately
its intresting because Arsenal employed a hybrid defense of Sergio Concencao (Porto) and the Atletico Madrid ( Cholo Simeone) Defensive Formation! Arteta is a genius!! using both the Low block but as well as the mid block!
I get the praise for Kiwior, he has improved... But a modern fullback needs more technique more vision more fludity in attack. Not everyone should be an "attacking fullback", but his build up play is mediocre. I feel like people don't understand how the game is stuck with Kiwior.
The reason arteta played kiwior he cool never panics good defensive position also very good on ball .kiwior was tired he played 120 minutes for Poland 5 days ago when players have heavy legs it’s difficult to pass the ball
He will continue to improve on the ball. I think he’s only 22 or 23? Won’t peak for a few more years. He might never be at zinchenkos level on the ball but we’ve seen massive improvements from the likes of tomi and white in that regard. Kiwior will continue to develop. I’d still say tomi or timber will be the main starter but kiwior has proven he can fill in on the back line when needed.
@@squanchysquanch1840 kiwior is better than tomiyasu technically but not defensively kiwior is good remember Gabriel magalheas was not good on ball when he come but improved
@@AbdiazizAbdi-q5e Yes Zinchenko also has his drawbacks... I always feel like his efficiency and ability to out-play people is very important and has actually been important even this season (build up against Liverpool, and other important games Zinchenko featured). But maybe it's a good thing I'm not manager. I would play Zinchenko and he would probably get nutmegged and we would lose :)
Also Tomiyasu is capable of a killer touch or pass in build up, even some good efficiency in the final 3rd... Haven't seen anything like that from Kiwior yet.... I do very much like that none of them are Alphonso Davies type "full out attacking full back", I don't like those players that much...
I wish I have your eyes to see beyond the players kicking balls. Mesmerizing insight. Now I would want to watch the match just to see the Kasparov vs Topalov.
Arsenal needs a clinical striker. Jesus isn't the player he once was in terms of clinical finishing. A player like Osimhen would definitely be a good choice, given his superb heading ability, work ethic, passing, and finishing under pressure. This addition would improve their attacking side, making them more dangerous.
When has Jesus ever been a clinical striker? Even at City, he wasn't clinical. He was more clinical when he was in South America before coming to City.
Ok, as a neutral the game was a little boring, but I nearly spit my coffee out when Guardiola went for the Grealish + Doku sub. So rather unlike him to seek chaos like that.
If we beat City then it doesn't count because they had injuries. We draw against City they say we are cowards. If we lost against City Arsenal are a banter club.
I have a genuine question. Please someone clarify my doubt. In this video its pointed out that last season Arsenal tried to press City and that was the mistake as City thrashed Arsenal. So this year Arsenal was more pragmatic to the press. Because if you press City, they will exploit the gaps. But Liverpool play the same way. They press high and with so much energy. Yet nothing happens to them. What's the difference with Liverpool's press that even though they press aggresively yet City can't carve a way out? Thanks in advance.
Two things: 1. Different personnel 2. It was a tough game away for Arsenal and it was just after an international break. If you have time watch the Arsenal vs Man City game at the Emirates and then watch this game again and compare the performances of Arsenal in the two games. Afterwards you will have your full answers.
@raunvk bro I'm arsenal fan and I was looking that answers too until I realised arsenal's front three is not as quicker as Liverpool and also Liverpool have natural right back and natural left back and they do overlapping and their crossing are deadly as well
@@raunvk I just told you, different personnel. But I can also add different tactics and tacticians. If those reasons are not enough for you then perhaps you already have an answer that you are looking for.

changing the press to focus on the pivots is exactly what Klopp done at Anfield this year to turn the game around. It seems to be the new way to get at them.
Which is funny as nobody criticized Porto for their game plan. They were even praised for it. Arsenal do it and all hell breaks lose. The amount of salt is unbelieveable.
I think City already lifted the heavy weight for this Premier League season. They only got Spurs left and big games at the UCL. Altough I think it's totally manageable for Pep. If they City is focused, they can smoke Madrid. Arsenal tough still got Bayern and some heavy weights in the Premier League: Villa, Chelsea, Spurs, United. My money would be on City doing The Trebble again, if I was into betting.
Arteta's only mistake: not having Trossard and Martinelli on from the beginning. Saka was clearly not match fit. No team can handle those two and Arsenal may have won. They were the better team.
People need to stop with this myth that Arsenal went to get a point. If they were intending to defend the entire game then Jorginho wouldn’t have started.
@@thehellyousay fear is what happened last season. What happened yesterday was respecting your opponent, stopping them and not losing. Stopping them from scoring for the first time in 57 home games. Thanks again for making sense of the match to a relative novice. It all seems so obvious after you explain it.
Arteta resigned Nelson for £100k a year but doesn't use him
Great Video Adam! Love your sense of humour in this video. And your analysis of the match!

In today's football it's impossible to use the same tactics whole season long. There will be adjustments along the way and also depends on how the opponents operate and where you play (home/away). Casuals only sees goals and can't see beyond, but they speak the loudest as if they know everything. Just look at the bitter comments here.
Great stuff as always!
i couldn't believe leo didn't play that ball first time.
I believe that he was looking to take one touch, then send it with his second. If his first touch was good, I have no doubt that the would have picked out Martinelli's run, but his first touch let him down.
@austin.p.martin I completely agree, I just don't think he needed that extra touch
Yeah first time was the ball.
Even with our block we should have still won tbh.

Respect to arsenal for nullifying city midfield creativity.
The difference in mentality couldn't be more, One team went into this game to win and the other went into this game not to lose.
Rival fans and mainstream media are gaslighting us Arsenal fans into thinking going for it immaturely like Liverpool was the way to go about it. The hate is real

I think City have more skilful players and as a team you have to play to your strengths and Arsenal tactics was spot on. People forget that Arteta played under David Moyes.
I'm sad that Martinelli didn't play much, I would have liked to see how he would have done against City's RB when Walker was injured
@@otto_jk should've come on first instead of trossard. His pace alone would've forced City's back line a few metres back
People do forget that about Arteta. He learned from 3 very different managers, Pep, Wenger & Moyes & he's capable of using that very effectively.

Arsenal was trying to do to City in Manchester what Porto did to Arsenal at the Dragon Stadium. The difference was that Porto managed to score in the last minute but Arsenal could not.
would've scored if trossard squared it to martinelli
Excellent video and channel! So insightful and makes the premier league experience so much better!
I think this was the reason Arsene Wenger's Arsenal never won the league after 2005. Teams started playing tactically to nullify opposition while Arsene just stuck to his style of play
That's not true, we weren't even expected to win the title due to our stadium build
Wenger consistently outperformed his roster's payroll. Arsenal slipped a notch because they fell behind financially.
Every time tried to build a team it got picked apart by richer rivals
personally I wasn't bored, it was a slow burn of a game but had a lot of intensity from both sides.
Always a pleasure to watch and listen to your analysis Mr. Celery.

Love your analysis!!!
My big takeaway from this game as an arsenal fan, was that I didn't feel nervous once.
A very strange feeling.
Get used to it!!

This addition would improve their attacking side, making them more dangerous.
jesus didn't even play as a striker, he played on the left wing, arsenal just need to make better decisions in the final third
When has Jesus ever been a clinical striker? Even at City, he wasn't clinical. He was more clinical when he was in South America before coming to City.
And very expensive.

Two things:
1. Different personnel
2. It was a tough game away for Arsenal and it was just after an international break. If you have time watch the Arsenal vs Man City game at the Emirates and then watch this game again and compare the performances of Arsenal in the two games. Afterwards you will have your full answers.

Arteta's only mistake: not having Trossard and Martinelli on from the beginning. Saka was clearly not match fit. No team can handle those two and Arsenal may have won. They were the better team.
