    That movement Tomiyasu did was absolutely phenomenal. Until that moment, City's defensive line were winning all the aerial duels. Who in their right mind would expect that a left back, who usually comes in to close the game and solidify the defense, would make a run like a number 8.
    Arteta took the risk, threw a punch and it landed. Big props to him for that.

    The moment Rice won back that ball in front of the Arsenal six yard box was the moment I knew we are playing to win and not to draw. Then followed the phenomenal long pass that split the MCity defence from Thomas P which produced the goal.🎉🔥.
    Performances to note, Ben White, Soliba, even Raya’s goal keeping although a bit shaky was still impressive. And the there is Gabriels both of them, Odegard … in fact the team and the managerial team, classic performance in all.💪🏾👏🏾.

      You are right to mention all the unavailable players for both the teams. But the post treble MC system in most games has been heavily dependant on rodri let alone other key players in the squad. This is probably the first time Pep would have thought with the absence of his players that arsenal have a more commanding midfield. The video actually doesn't justify the box midfield that City were playing with in game. It became a very narrow/central tussle between the two because of this. And yes we did win games without them, but not against the Arsenal's, Liverpool's, etc. These big games have always required their brilliance for City. Fair play to Arteta for his genius in the game management, it really looked like something pep would do. Also before mentioning the absence of saka being big. I personally think saka actually makes arsenal a very good wide attacking team with all his qualities. And that is exactly why I think Arteta didn't want him in the game as all the times before this, arsenal have lost to us.

    You get games like these, I remember back when when Klopp came up against Wenger, back in the day, they cancelled each other out.
    Havertz is key to AFC change in form against City. City have no choice but to factor in a hold up merchant. It doesn't even matter if he has a good or bad game. Haaland isn't a great footballer (yes unbelievable striker) but you have to factor him in as a hold up merchant.
    I'm sure that played a part in City changing thing up with Silva. They must have come with a plan for Havertz, saw he wasn't on the team sheet, factored in Jorginho, needed to cancel out his CM attacking threat, pulled back Silva and it largely worked.
    Anyhow, teams now have a workable blueprint to compete with City on the day. City haven't moved on from not dealing with two up front, here you had Havertz and Tomiyasu doing the damage. Haaland a great striker but a meady footballer, he barely can deal with being man marked.
    Yes once KDB and Rodri are back, City will look explosive again but Haaland will remain central, that will not change. Him cancelled and long balls/hold up merchants will result in goals and difficulties.

      I swear, one win against City and Arsenal fans are all acting like they've won the league -- you're 2 points ahead of City and drawn up with your rivals. Oh, and only 8 games into the season. So quick to forget how quickly things can change, and often at vital points in the season. I remember Arsenal fans singing "we're going to win the league" last season only for City to go up another gear.
      I think this win was probably a fair result, but it could've been different pretty easily. Ake's shot goes in and it's a different game, Kovacic gets sent off and it's a different game, butterfly effect etc. etc. -- but this game is not a make-or-break moment in the season regardless of the result. Important for Arsenal to build off, definitely, but beyond the 3 points against the title defenders and Arteta beating Pep for the first time, we have yet to see how significant it will actually be.

    Reminds me of a saying said in an anime I've now put in my top10 (Blue Lock): Luck exists in the game, but it doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's exists through the effort it takes to put ones self in that point of luck. I'm paraphrasing of course~

    City were missing De Bruyne and Rodri, we were without Saka, Partey and Martinelli from the start, Martinelli came in after half time because of Trossard injury and Party came on very late. City should also have been down one man as well.......

    Nah, it was luck. Ake sinks that first goal, the game is different. Also Arsenal did bottle it. City were unstoppable at the end of the season. Arsenal's job was to beat the other teams. We can talk stats and grinding out nil nil draws against City, but Arsenal full strength may still be just below City full strength.

    It was 11 v 11 both sides trying to make sure they kept a clean sheet. Simples. Only one team conceded. Simples. Where’s the complexity? They both thought 0-0 would be Ok and Arsenal said ‘let’s Nick it with a late one’, and they did it. What’s the mystery? Only that they weren’t already 2-0 down, because Arteta had already said ‘ we go a tight draw or a tight win’ and everyone said ‘that means we lose again’. Emirates is very slowly learning that their boys are learning how to win ugly! It’s a slow education, when team and fans both understand we’ll be ready to win the league.

    • @coolerdude42
      @coolerdude42 10 місяців тому

      There is no way Arteta thought "a draw would be ok". He wanted to win. Its very clear that the winning goal came from a sequence that the team specifically trained for.
      That's the difference.
