Here is a few "DIY Kits" I put together from Amazon with everything you need to add this setup: Ice Barrel 300 Chiller DIY Kit with 1/2HP Chiller: amzn.to/3ExihP7 Ice Barrel 300 Chiller DIY Kit with 1HP Chiller: amzn.to/3QYi9iY
FYI the clasp and hex nuts for the 1/2 hp is wrong. The clasp are not big enough and the hex fits one way not the way into the pump. Which pvc nut did you use to connect the pump to filter?
For anyone doing this. I looked all over. I can’t find any plastic fitting that does 3/4inch x 5/8 pvc fitting to get this to work. If anyone has link please let me know. Plastic only. Steel or brass do not fit.
@davidmausjr I purchased the white threaded tubing in your Amazon kit and in this video link. BUT in this video you said the white tubing is your nemesis. Can you place a link to the black flexible tubing you recommend now. Thank you!
Thanks David, just ordered everything, the 300 and all the recommended parts and chiller. Your videos are awesome, simple for people like me who are..well..simple!
Hi Dave! Super helpful video! I just purchased an Ice Barrel 300 and the kit supplies from your Amazon list. Thanks so much for making my life easy! You're awesome! Keep up the great videos!
Love the simplicity of this setup! Question - what do you think of adding an Ozone generator to the setup? Seems like that's the best for sanitation out there, would be awesome to integrate that into this setup. What do you think?
Thanks so much for this, I have it set up and it's working great. 1 question for you, when I turn off my pump and chiller my system leaks from the pump. Do you have a way to stop the pump leak? Thanks for your help.
Hi David, I sent you a dm about 2 parts listed in your DEI that we weren't sure what they were for. I sent them back (stainless steel garden hose fitting and mini ball valve.) Everything is working great been using set up since Sept 13 (3 weeks). Doing a cleaning today and having problems draining all of the water through the strainer per your video. It drains almost all except the last couple of inches. Any suggestions? Can you do a video showing how you drain it? Thank you
Interesting rewatched this vid. Do you change the size tubing based on the HP of your chiller? I recently had my tiny pump from warrior willpower burn out and after getting a new 1000gph pump, the connectors on top of the chiller now slightly leak. It’s working with 1/2” tubing and a 1/3hp chiller
Loving your videos, David. I started last year with a horse trough. Hoping I can upgrade this year to this setup. Thanks for all your great advice. Keep the updates coming!
solid update Sir. Maybe theres a way to box that middle section in a small outdoor box of somesort? To block from kids/animals stepping on the pump area and could visually clean that up too. Nice!
I like this video, it is the best yet for DYI. Is there a change you can explain what size pipe you are using and what additional connectors you need. Thanks - Subbed
How has that inline pump been? I just bought one from your Amazon page to be submerged in my tub. Would really prefer it be an in line pump but worried it’s going to break on me.
Hey buddy, me again lol I thought I’ve watched all your videos and now this just popped up on my home screen while I was waiting on a subcontractor. I just finally hooked up my chiller however I use the old tubing and I’m seeing exactly what you mean? Where did you get that black hydroponic tubing? I definitely need to get some of that. Is there any place close to us that has it?
Hi! I'm going to order the 300 on black friday :) chiller question..I live in the central valley of california..summer temps soar over 100 degrees on the daily. I plan on having it in my garage which gets super hot as well. Do you think I can get away with a 1/2 hp chiller with the 300 being insulated and all?
There appear to be 2 places to connect on the 300. I have the 400 which only has one place to connect and would like to use the Ecoplus 1 1/2 hp per your previous video. How would I set this up including filter? Thanks
FYI the clasp and hex nuts for the 1/2 hp is wrong. The clasp are not big enough and the hex fits one way not the way into the pump. Which pvc nut did you use to connect the pump to filter?
I noticed you have your chiller outside and unprotected---is it ok to keep it outside if it rains etc? I have mine in my garage with my tubing running outside to the tank. I also have a submersible pump in the tank pumping the water through the chiller. Since I spent like $1,100 on the chiller I want it to last---so thoughts on the weather set up is appreciated
I have had mine outside since the beginning and here in FL its hot and rainy all the time. Its been perfect with no issues but if its working the way you have it, no harm in keeping it like that.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to reduce condensation with the original ice barrel 400? I have a very similar set up, although I’m using the 1/2 HP HE Penguin chiller. I’m getting so much water on my deck that it puddles. It looks more like a leak but I don’t seem to notice a drop in water level in the barrel. I just set everything up a couple of days ago, so still trying to work out the kinks.
Anything i have tried without built in insulation condensates like crazy. Even the tubes will do it when it gets hotter out. I have a few videos from years past trying to figure it out. They make an absorbant mat on amazon that you could use that people have tried. amzn.to/3vgNx3K
@@DavidMausJr awesome. Thank you for the suggestion, David. Price point looks reasonable. I’m going to look into this and continue researching insulation options.
@@DavidMausJr thank you again. As I continue to work on identifying an insulation method that will work best for my set up let me ask you another question about water dripage. I have the Ice Barrel 400 but I have currently set it up like you set up your Ice Barrel 300. The filter and pump are set up inline outside of the barrel. The majority of my leakage is coming from those connections, and not necessarily the condensation. In regard to the Ice Barrel 400, do you think it’s better or easier to just set it up the way you originally set it up with the filter and pump inside the barrel… or have you found a method for minimizing or preventing leakage from the filter to the in-line pump?
Has anyone received their Ice Barrel 300 yet? I ordered 3 weeks ago but can't get the company to answer the phone or reply to emails requesting updates.
I feel like a 1 HP chiller is overkill for the 70 gal ice barrel, shouldn't 1/2 HP be more than enough - especially if the barrel is now insulated? Also Penguin Chiller company sells a HE chiller that has a pump pre-installed inside and also has an ice barrel kit so you don't have to drill if you have the ice barrel. Not sure if you knew this, but wanted to see if you had any opinion on it.
for sure! I had the 1/2 and it was perfect, but i wanted to check out the 1hp and ended up giving the 1/2 away to a friend who wanted to start getting cold. it would work great with the insulated 300. I have heard more bad reviews on the penguin than positive reviews, but i dont have any opinions on it.
@DavidMausJr I would totally put something under the pump in case one of the kiddos (or their friends) climb/step on it. Thanks a lot for posting these updates, super helpful! Very appreciative of all your reviews.
They pop up on Amazon from time to time. But they always disappear so I don’t have a solid link. Keep plugging it in to Amazon and eventually there will be one.
Hi there! I was wondering what the approximate shipping costs for the Ice Barrel 300 were, I was quoted $800 via DHL to Puerto Rico, which I find outrageous since it's still domestic shipping! Thanks and keep up the great videos David!
I followed your tutorial with the clear tubing. How dare you steer me wrong and not offer the best. Just kidding brother, thanks for everything. I may swap out the tubing eventually, as there's already a spot of folding that's happening. It still seems to circulate a lot of water though, so I may not need to for a while. Keep the great content coming.
Important: All ports on the Ice Barrel 300 are 3/4 NPT (not GHT). Several of Dave’s kits include GHT threaded adapters that do not fit the Ice Barrel 300. Using those GHT adapters will result in damaging the threads on the Ice Barrel.
Thanks for the heads up. For reference, i agree with you however the pieces i have in the kits are exactly (after trial and error) what I am using and there are zero issues. I have updated all the kits for the 300 and they have both options. If you want to go with NPT to NPT exclusive, they are the brass options in the kits. Any questions, message me on IG: @dmausjr
Watching UR I Found a Better Way to add a DIY Chiller to the 300 and That piece you are using from the Active Aqua Inline pump to screw onto filter....where is that? I don't see it?
Just got my same set up but my pump is leaking from the top like crazy!! Are you finding that since you put the pump on the outside, it is still leaking? Mine is leaking from the top, not so much from the strainer.
It shouldnt be leaking, Sometimes the clamp is on a weird spot and water gets through so make sure to fiddle with the clamp, there is a spot that it doesnt leak but its finicky.
@@DavidMausJr took everything apart and realized there was supposed to be an O ring on that top barb. My only problem now is the pump and chiller are both very loud and wondering if this is normal.
Shouldnt be very loud, they can be noisy when first cooling the water but once it reaches temps the chiller (the loudest part) should kick off.@@killthebear71

When you need to clean the filter by unscrewing the clear cap, won’t you waste a good amount of water every time?
yes but i plan on just changing the water when i do that so its all good. probably every month or so
FYI the clasp and hex nuts for the 1/2 hp is wrong. The clasp are not big enough and the hex fits one way not the way into the pump. Which pvc nut did you use to connect the pump to filter?
send me a pic on IG if you can, not following. i put exactly what i used into the kits so im trying to figure out what you mean
My pump doesn’t have a threaded option for the inlet water. Just a nipple to attach a hose. Am I missing something?
Will a 1/4 horsepower get the water cold enough in the 300 barrel?
Yes. Recently updated the kits in the description to include that it’s solid
Super helpful, however the mesh strainer is upside down. You want the sediment caught to fall the bottom of the cup, instead of where the water flows.
I’ve tried it every way and it works regardless how it’s positioned.

Maybe turn it all off and purge water through the tubes. (Use a hose and force water in there to push the air out) but it might come back.
