Hi. Thank you for your video. Just ordered the products. Question: I have a simple inflatable cold plunge tub and looking for an inexpensive way to filter. Is there a submersible filter you recommend for my situation? Also what brand is the small aquarium pump you mention in your circulation segment? Thank you. Newbie here, learning bit by bit.
@@akalinda2007 that aquarium pump is totally not necessary. I happen to have an extra that came with the water chiller and throw it in for extra circulation of the water. If it's something you want, you can find them on Amazon for pretty cheap. amzn.to/3W1Zcyj
i have the aqua chiller 1 hp amd an activr aqua submersible pump. my pump is always on and circulates the water really well. i have 1” tubes. why does your pump not stay on and/or circulate sufficiently to not need the aquarium pump
Great question! As I mention, that extra pump comes with the chiller for free and it’s 100% not necessary. Since the water flows into the top of the barrel, I’ll sometimes toss it in to the bottom just to agitate any sediment or grass that might be lingering down there. Seems to help push it into the exit hole and into the filter.
That aquarium pump I use to circulate the water inside the barrel is 400gph. Again, it's a super cheap pump and really not all that necessary. To circulate the water through the chiller, that's something like 800-1000gph.
@@ben_chill thanks for the reply, and the great video! Very helpful as mine only makes it about a week before it gets cloudy. I use hydrogen peroxide only, and will incorporate a UV light with a small pump next. I'm going to see if I can just stretch it to 2 weeks! If that doesn't work then I'll take a look at the chemicals you use, haha.
@@ben_chill Wow! That's a lofty goal! If I could do that by just using my 80 mesh filter, and adding those chemicals that you mentioned along with my hydrogen peroxide, I would definitely do it. The only thing I don't want to do is replumb and add some fancy filter.
For the ice barrel 300, can the water level be higher than the top chiller port? I feel like if it's lower than that than I can't submerge up to my shoulders.
I work in a property that has a plunge and water gets cloudy after couple uses but every time i use test strips they come out good no need for chemicals but the water is cloudy. What could that be? They have the brand Plunge
Sounds like it could be too high Alkalinity or high calcium hardness. This is a reference page on the Plunge's website: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0409/5626/4605/files/Comm-Chlorine_Water_Maintenance_11_10.pdf?v=1699662178
Hi! Great video. Have you have any issues with a dark greenish yellow sticky film forming on the walls and floor of the ice bath? My water is super clean but there is a sticky ring around the tub at the water line and in the floor.
I assume you need to have some filtration system in place for these products to be of use? I currently just add ice and change the water once a week, but I’m looking for a less time-consuming approach.
Not 100%. They'll do a really good job and killing the bacteria and keeping the water clear. I whole house filter can help with some of the finer debris.
Sooooo, long explanation short, I don't pay much attention to the Peroxide. Since I use 3%, it's already pretty diluted and I only add a capful after each use. No irritation or issues to date. I've read that the PPM for peroxide should be around 300-500. I use the Sirona test strips for the other products and I'm very careful about that.
@@therealfastmart if I'm not mistaken the 30-50PPM is for the sanitizer, not the oxidizer. Hydrogen Peroxide is effective at killing microbes, but it does slowly degrades and turns into water in a few hours. That's why there are no testing instructions on Sirona's Oxidizer product, which is 7.5% Peroxide. I basically took the the instructions from the back of their bottle and converted it down for the 3% and add that every time...which amounts to about a capful of the product I use. I hope that's helpful info!
Great video. I like that you only recommend getting the Sirona step 3 bottle and using the Hydrogen Peroxide and the clarifier in lieu of the Sirone Step1 and 2. Your suggestion saves me $$$. My question is, how many hours a day do you run the filtration and water circulation pump? And how many hours a day do you run the chiller? I've been running my chiller for 10 hrs and the circulation/filtration pump for 11 hrs (along w/ the UV light) for 3 weeks and I already noticed scum on the walls and water line. The only chemical I add is a cap full of 6% food grade hydrogen peroxide. Will adding the Sirona help get rid of the scum or do I start over and drain/fill the ice bath then add the chemicals? Sorry for long winded questions... I'm a newbie!
I only run the chiller as needed. My Ice Barrel has really great insulation, so for that reason alone it doesn't come on all that often. The pump I just leave running all the time to keep the water fresh. I would suggest getting some testing strips to determine your problem. That's the only way to go about it without guessing.
So the day after adding Sirona sanitizer and oxodizer...I now have foam on the surface of the water. The test strips confirm OK levels of everything. Thoughts?
Great video - I'm working on my own setup right now with the same barrel. I don't see the "whole house filter" you referenced linked in the description. Which filter do you use for that?
Hey there and thank you for your video! - I just set up my plunge and I have to work the sanitation part as I have the filtration set up already, what is the best practice to use these products, weekly, daily or after every plunge? I have a 100 gallon rubbermaid using about 75 gallons of water, how much peroxide would you recommend? Thank you again!
Jose, for the initial treatment, just follow the instructions on the bottles and factor for the 75 gallons. For instance, the Sanitizer directions say 1oz for every 150 gallons. So in your case, just add 1/2oz. After that, it's a good idea to buy the Sirona test strips to determine how much you need to add, otherwise you're just guessing. Less is more for sure! As for the peroxide, I use 3% and so for the initial I add about 1/2 cup. After that, I'll just throw in about a capful after each plunge. Peroxide degrades down into water after a couple hours, so it's a little bit more forgiving.
So to clarify, you’re basically adding half an ounce of each Sirona product every water change, as well as half a cup of peroxide. Then after each plunge, a capful of peroxide. Is that right?
The sanitizer is 1 ounce for every 500 gallons. So let's say your plunge is 100 gallons. 1 ounce = 30ml or in other words 6ml for every 100 gallons (this is why I recommend a syringe). The Ice Barrel isn't quite 100 gallons, but I did add 6ml initially, let it circulate for about 10 minutes, and then tested with the test strips. All good. Periodic checks will let you know when to add more. For the clarifier, same thing, just followed the instructions on the bottle. And yeah, for the Peroxide, I added about 1/2 a cup to start and just a small capful after every use. That might be too much, once a week would probably work.
JUST EMPTY THE WATER OUT ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS, ADD HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AFTER YOU FILL IT WITH FRESH WATER AND THAT'S IT, NO NEED FOR ANYTHING ELSE, REPEAT EVERY TWO WEEKS, DRAIN IT, FILL IT, ADD PEROXIDE, SIMPLE, NO NEED FOR ANYTHING ELSE

Foam is normally an indicator of too much organic material in the water, like body oils etc. The Sirona Clarifier is meant to break that stuff down.
Did you say every time you plunge you add a capful of hydrogen peroxide? I just ordered my IB 500
I do! Hydrogen Peroxide breaks down into water after a couple hours so you really can't overdo it.
I'm getting an orange scum line from doing this. Any insights?
Are you testing your water with strips? Also, are you using the Clarifier?
