    Trouble is with going to get your own loads from the quarry is that you can't even complain about the truck driver. :)

      Quarry boss: Sorry man. We're short handed today. We'll load you as soon as we can.

    Damn, Chris, you never fail to amaze me! I've figured it out, though. Your left eye is calculated, vertically in inches and fractions while your right eye is calculated in tenths and hundredths of an inch horizontally. Keep up the good work, you're an inspiration to all of us who wish we could live life over as a heavy equipment operator!!

      A customer who won't let you leave is not always a good thing, especially when you have other jobs scheduled. But we all get that one customer that just doesn't understand that other folks are paying for a slice of our time too. You hate to put them off or worse yet, tell them no but sometimes you just have to do that to keep the jobs flowing.

      Actually Chris is the employee and John is the boss, but he knows where Chris is most valuable and not too proud to grunt. Smart man. Although he should find another Timmy for Chris and stay in the truck seat himself. Grunt work is harder at his age is my guess since I am 67 now. I slowed down a lot in my late forties with heart/lung issues. Wished I could have kept going longer but such is life.

    Man if that was a "typical day" (or two) of work for me, I could do it all day every day. It sure beats sitting in an office and in front of a computer all day. If I could go back in time 40+ years I would have chosen your career path. It has nothing to do with the salary or how much you get paid and everything to do with enjoying what you are doing.
    It's also not about being able to run/operate machinery, but also the manual labor that is sometimes (many times) involved. I just love being outside and working hard. At the end of the day you can look back at what you have done and be proud of it.

    • @markpashia7067
      @markpashia7067 3 роки тому +1

      Yup. Has some areas where I had to pay extra for them to make more trips with single axle truck due to overhead clearance issues, but still worth the extra money to save time by having it spread. Depends on the distance to the quarry. Sadly even the single axle guys had to be taught to tailgate the gravel instead of pile it. Don't know how you can be a dump truck driver without knowing how to tailgate forward or backward. Without that skill you are just a driver not a dump truck driver. Sad.

    They call that flume in the limestone quarry here ..it packs and really sets up almost like concrete.
    We once spread some lightly on cleared timber ground. ,it's like a slow disolving lime. Adjusts the PH of the ground.
