@@amjan Maybe reinvent wasnt a correct use of it, but if you heard the original compared to this version, its nowhere close to sounding to the original. Dont get so hostile.
I've been a huge Priest fan since 1978, so obviously Halford is my man. However, you have to give Ripper the respect he deserves, he is a great talent. I think it just comes down to I don't want to hear Ripper sing Halford's songs anymore than I want to hear Halford sing Ripper's songs. Ripper lived a great dream, and now it's time for him to go out on his own and do what he does best, which is what he's doing. Long Live Halford and Long Live Judas Priest!!
He doesn't have Halford's tone, but he's got perfect diction and proper drama for each phrase. Halford slurs it. Halford is better. But this guy is a true singer, no doubt.
Agreed. Have seen Halford solo, with Priest and Priest with Ripper. This version of Diamonds and Rust was the one that touched me the most, got goosebumps... Both are simply amazing singers, I just think people are stupid for hating him for replacing Halford, he's the one that kept Priest alive all this time.
This is absolutely by far the best version ever on the planet !!!.. Joan Baez thank you for blessing us with this song .. and Ripper Owen .. thank you for this awesome cover .. u r indeed blessed with the voice .. definitely heard all the way in the heavens !!!
Tuve el privilegio de ver a ambos en vivo; tanto al señor Rob Halford, como al joven Tim Ripper Owens. El mejor sonido en vivo de Judas Priest es con ripper😊
The Ripper is truly a gem! Hard to find, and easy to loose... I really hope he is going to sing again. It doesn't matter how young/old he is. His energy is incredible, even with no stage experience comparing to other kings...
Awesome version. Reminds me of the Disturbed version of Sound of Silence. I know this song from from when my buddy bought the original album. It always spoke to me with melancholy dramatic power. Then I happened upon a Joan Baez live version and realized this was her original. Excellent but of course. But the powerful vocals and music arrangements on this take it to another level. Poetic and kick ass.
this is such a haunting song in any incarnation , and watching the guitars look like they are possessed by the spirit of metal ...true soul from the best. great post.
Was lucky enough to see Halford solo, Priest with Ripper and Priest with Halford and all 3 times it RULED. But to tell the truth this was my favorite version of Diamonds and Rust, sent shivers up my spine.
i also love the slow version i can't descide whitch one is better they are both so amazing !!! the fast version has more power but the acoustic has an epic feeling the PRIEST is soo amazing live they are just liike maiden totally perfect live
I saw Ripper two days ago in support of Anthrax; he RULED, as always. I even got to touch his hand several times, since I was right up front ^-^. Tim "Ripper" Owens is an amazing singer who rarely misses one of the high notes and has a huge vocal range. That being said, Halford is the metal god and the frontman slot of Judas Priest is forever his to fill. It's his rightful place.
nobody will ever win the ripper/halford argument. personally i'm a local akron ripper fan. you can't shit on a guy that was picked by PRIEST to fill in, not forever replace, but fill in, for a guy that wanted to LEAVE priest. tim's voice is better than pretty much everyone's out there. nobody can and will ever beat the big 3 of metal - sabbath/maiden/priest. leave it at that. btw, new beyond fear album music in the works!!!
i just watched this video first, and after this, the Video with Halford( Diamond and rust song)..... I think the one with Owens is better ...!! But please...respect to Halford... this is just my opinion!!!
NoneBuriedDeeper Tim it's an excellent singer in my opinion I saw him alive with Judas Priest in Argentina, very nice show, but still preffer Rob Halford, it's mystic....in my opinion no offense
For short period of time Halford left the band and made his own band titled "Halford". he was then replaced with Tim "Ripper" Owens, hte lead singer of a 'Priest cover band. Now Halford is back and Ripper fronts Iced Earth.
This "Ripper" version is absolutely incredible. Gives me goosbumps every time I hear it. Incredible.
Easily
Sorry, but he's not even close to Rob's ability! When Rob came back it was the real Judas Priest again!
@@olderthanyoucali8512 not even close, but more powerful.
@@olderthanyoucali8512 Yeah, way better :) ua-cam.com/video/mIC7KQPDuDc/v-deo.html
I Luv Halford but fuk that whas Wicked, goosebumps alright
This is how you top a living legend. Sorry but this is the greatest version of this song ever
Tim "RIPPER" Owens did a great job on vocals on this tune. ROCK ON!!!!!!!
MrMegaFredZeppelin on every tune. this guy literally ripps off with his voice!
Rob Halford is 100000% better! :)
@@fenrir08_ Halford is a pussy just like Bruce who put his dick in son.

I listen to it at least once a month since 1998. It still gives me goosebumps.
2024
Holy Shit I've been looking for this song for 15 years. Best version of this song no doubt
RIPPER IS BRUTAL!!!!!AMAZING GREAT VOCALIST IN METAL
Not many bands can take a old hippie song, reinvent it and then 25 years ago reinvent it again. Shows how great they are!
They didn't reinvent shit, you fool. They just play it. The guitarists play it the easiest way possible, as if they didn't even bother.
@@amjan Maybe reinvent wasnt a correct use of it, but if you heard the original compared to this version, its nowhere close to sounding to the original. Dont get so hostile.
Why isnt the ripper era on spotify:(( this version is fantastic btw
The same reason make me come here for This fantastic song
Brilliant performance! Ripper did a fantastic job for priest!
THE BEST COVER OF JOAN BAEZ.

Who could dislike this... This performance is pure perfection
this is perfection
Magic voice🤩
Owens isn't Halford and he shouldn't be. He replaced THE Metal God and he did it perfectly. Love both of them, always did and always will.
irreligious80 Exactly.
irreligious80 Rob can never be replaced.

Ripper is a legend amongst gods
Excelente interpretación del gran temazo clásico de Judas Priest. Tim Ripper hizo un gran trabajo aqui. Live in London forever in my heart
@chameleon metal así es; Es un temazo clásico interpretado por Joan Báez. Es una canción que ha trascendido en varias generaciones.
Lindo cover de Joan Baez.
