Movie snape I assume has always been one of the most favored characters in HP, especially in this scene. He felt more like a strict teacher who emphasizes with people and shows a lack of severe hatred for harry, unlike book snape. He also doesn't bully students 24/7.
Talking bout Lily's eyes, when the memories show we can see that young Lily had brown eyes, but Harry had bloody blue eyes all the damn saga. I just don't get it
@@damaristaydevelezgomez4776 in the books Lily had green eyes. They initially had Daniel Radcliffe wear contact lenses that changed his eye color, but he couldn’t tolerate the contact lenses because they’d irritate his eyes. In the films they tried resolving this by just saying “you have your mother’s eyes” without mentioning color. For young Lily having brown eyes, I guess they thought the flashbacks were so brief it wouldn’t be too noticeable but I’m not certain.
I’m the only one in my family that read the books before watching the movie and when we were watching the movie my parents and sister were like “he’s the bad guy” and in like “if you say so...”
The only thing I hate about a Harry Potter book is the fact that it ends. Not the ending, nor necessarily that it ended. I get so lost in the book that at the end I miss it.
I cried for Harry and Lily, not Snape. I mean, the scene of Lily when she died to save Harry, and the knowledge that now Harry has to die too... Snape was just there listening to the news lol.

Im so glad jkr shared that one tidbit she did with alan rickman! That let him see a clear path for snape and he adjusted what the script said by saying thats not what snape would do or say here. He was true to snapes real character the whole way through every movie. RIP good Sir!
I actually thought there was always something fishy about him killing Dumbledore. The way he had been built as a character, being very mysterious, having a name that seems evil from the start, and being someone that all the signs will say to hate, yet sprinkled with acts of kindness THAG leave us confused, such as the numerous times he saved Harry. Simply making him a bad guy would’ve wasted the potential of the character that ended up being born, and I had faith Rowling wouldn’t let that happen. Though I must admit, I never could have imagined such a drastic turn around, and one that involved his entire life. Easily my favorite character.
@@peterd1623 yeah i deeply agree with you. In the books he sometimes was honestly very annoying but still i always had complete faith in Dumbledore so when he killed Dumbledore it was very fishy that how he could've possibly dicieve some one like him. I admire Rowlling for such a creativity.
And having it being followed by a shot of Snape holding Lily's body in his arms, crying. Beautiful work. It's probably the most emotional shot in the whole franchise.

Daniel M I can explain a few of these, the scene is dumbledore and snape talking about how Harry has a horcruz (can’t remember how to spell it ) inside his scar so he must die too . The doe is Lilly potter just like Harry’s patronus was a stag like his father . As for the last question I’m unsure too .
@@smellyfeet11 Lily's patronus is a doe, and Snape's patronus also was a doe because he truly lived Lily so much. And it hasn't changed. So when Dumbledore asks, "After all this time?" He means "you still love Lily, after all this time?" At the making of that memory, it had been a couple of years since Lily had died and many more since she and James had married. But Snape never let go. And that is why Dumbledore is surprised, at love's potential and at the best side of Snape, the unwavering love and selflessness. And Snape loved her to his last breath, answering "Always."
Man this gets me all the time. Snape was never a bad person, he was just broken. Alan Rickman potrayed his character beautifully. May his soul Rest in Peace.
What is a bad person? A good person? Snape should teach you, among many things, that "the line between good and evil is drawn down the center of every human heart". -aleksandyr solhenitzyn
lol what how was he not a bad person do you know what a death eater is????? he was a fully evil death eater before voldy killed lilly as he was completely ok letting voldy kill james and harry
For those people who always had problems with Snape because he was a bully to the students, had been a death eater and is viewed by some as more obsessed with Lily than in love with her, I think that the books are sprinkled with bits of information that give lots of clues into his character and understanding of some of the bad decisions he made. It is pretty apparent that Snape’s family life was very unhappy. His muggle father appeared to be abusive from the glimpses we get. And other muggle children in his community, like Petunia, treated him badly because his poverty resulted in his odd dress and appearance. When you combine this with the fact that he was an extremely smart, bookish boy who appeared to also be a loner, you can see why he would be a prime target for recruitment by a group like the Death Eaters. There are plenty of real life parallels to such things, taking away the magical element of course. At one point in the books Harry referred to himself, Snape and Voldemort as the Lost Boys who found a home at Hogwarts. When Dumbledore brought Snape onto the teaching staff at Hogwarts Snape was still very young. In fact, he was only a couple of years out of being a Hogwarts student himself. And we know that Snape had been bullied as a student at Hogwarts. Now he was in a position of authority. And it is highly unlikely that he had experienced much social development of his own in the meantime. For all these reasons, I think it is easy to see why Snape became a bully as a teacher. You would hope that people who are bullied would avoid doing the same thing to other people. But unfortunately, we know that people who are bullied often become the next set of bullies. This is not trying to excuse Snape’s behavior toward the students he was teaching. But it is a way to understand why he would behave this way. As far as whether Snape’s feelings for Lily fall into the category of love or obsession, I don’t think it really makes a big difference in the end. Either way he risked life and limb, and put himself into danger, over and over in order to fulfill the vow he made to Dumbledore to protect Lily’s son. Snape was in the end a very flawed man who was also a hero and one of the best literary characters I have ever had the pleasure to encounter in a story. He was my favorite character in the entire series from the moment we heard that wonderful monologue in Harry’s first potions class. And to Harry he was the bravest man he ever knew.

Not really. Your patronus changes into the patronus of your true love. Lily's was a dove, the mate to a stag for James. They were meant to be together. But Snape's became a dove because Lily was his true love, that's how much he loved her. We also saw that happening in HPU with Tonks and Lupin
@@queeneva3 No, if two person have opposite gender of same animal as their patronus doesn't mean that they are meant to be together. Lily Evans loved James and did marry him. I grew up watching the movies at the cinema, but as a child I never understood how good the plot and the depth of the characters are. Today, after rewatching it all over again, I'm an absolute fan, I give this franchise a standing ovation as one of the most genius masterpieces ever made! My biggest wish is that they produce more things from the Harry Potter universe in the format that we currently consume. I know they made the Grindelwald movies but I believe there are much more interesting things to explore in this world. A well-produced series on some online subscription service about Snape's youth, Lilly Potter, is my dream.
Midly disagree. It has beautiful characters but if you think about it too hard alot of the plot falls apart. But then again its a series meant for the youth so me and alot of people didnt care about that stuff when reading it for the first time. But thats perfectly fine. Its a fantasy world and is intended to make you forget.
I think the only movies that are on par with the Harry Potter movies especially around that time is The Lord of the Rings. They both have a fantastic plot, a deep and rich backstory, fantastic and dynamic characters with beautiful acting and set design.
When Snape says always, it always leaves me in tears because that just shows how much love Snape had for Lily. It’s probably one of the most wonderful scenes ever when we get to find out what type of person Snape truly is
To add to this, the reason Snape is my favourite person in Harry Potter is because of how intelligent he is. Throughout the entire series, he is the one man who was on both the dark and light side, while hiding his true commitment to the light the entire time. It was Snape who gained the trust of one of the most evil & powerful wizards of all time, and even then Dumbledore still dies even with Snape's help, the fact that Snape had to maintain through 19 years this level of composure makes him soooo badass to me. Not to mention he looks like Owen Wilson and Keanu Reeves combined 😂
Bruh hella no, this showed that Snape is just a overbearing man child. Yes your first love/ connection went to someone else. Guess what? EVERYONE goes through heartbreak. It take strength to push forward and live your life. Being a dick to the child of the woman who broke your heart is nothing but abusive. And Harry also losing his mom should of made it that Snape is nicer to Harry. They both lost the woman they loved. Theres plenty of threads and videos from women calling out Snape behavior.

Same. Now that I’ve seen all the films with a real pair of eyes, and a solid set of emotions, I can gladly admit I’ve seen the “EXPECTO PATRONUM” scene about 30 times, because of its sheer beauty. But this scene was the biggest, most important twist of them all. I’m glad this scene was never spoiled for me.
I have never seen a Harry Potter movie in the cinema. But hearing the godly voice of Dumbledore and Severus is incredible. Their voices are so deep and powerful, also the acting and the story coming together in this particular scene is phenomenal.
The hardest part about this scene is that we learn what Snape really means when he says Harry has his mother’s eyes. It’s not how they look, it’s how they see others. Harry and his mother both saw the good in people and would never hurt a fly intentionally, they’re both incredibly kind people and see others as if there is always good inside of them, they don’t judge, they don’t hate, they’re genuine loving eyes that want the best for those around them. It’s a heartbreaking moment to see, especially Snape and Lily as kids and how tragic that story was…
Well not entirely true for Harry you know, i mean he casted a Cruciatus curse on Amycus Carrow (Against a death eater of course but he still count as a "fly") and you really need to have the intention for that to work ...

Couldn’t agree more. Little me thought he was part of “the AXIS of evil” lol. What amazes me is how well this image was maintained. And everything you’ve ever known about the character is wrong, and the missing piece is finally filled in.

@AyushGurung What a lot of people tend to ignore about the love potions is that, essentially, they're roofies. They override the drinker's judgement, making them consent to a relationship, however brief it is, that they probably wouldn't want under their own volition. Snape likely knew that Voldemort, himself, was conceived via a love potion, as well as the problems that this caused. He couldn't make himself do that to Lily, however much he might've been tempted. Crushing my heart.... especially since Snape really had a pure heart at the end. I'm certain he knew the wand was faithful to Draco and not him. But prefered sacrificing his life not to endanger Draco's. A true hero, who never needed recognition to be loyal and brave🙏
Snape’s a true Hogwarts student and we didn’t realize it until it was too late. He’ll be sorely missed throughout the years of the wizarding world. He’s a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin all in one.
He couldn't reveal it was Draco, since that would be putting him in danger. He made the unbreakable vow to protect him. Therefore Snape would've died regardless.
He may not have necessarily known. The legend behind the elder wand seemed to indicate that the allegiance changed with the murder of the previous master. Voldemort himself believed it. Snape was indeed very clever and a supremely good occlumens, but we do not know how versed he was in wandlore.
I know that most people think that this is Snape’s ”the moment” when we learn all of his motivations and etc. but I always saw this as “Dumbledore moment”. I mean Snape’s kinda right, Dumbledore kept Harry alive only so that he could die at the right moment (and most likely he didn’t even know that Harry could come back from the dead). And when Snape shocked (pretty appropriate reaction if you ask me) accuses Dumbledore of raising Harry like a pig to slaughter Dumbledore doesn’t show remorse. No, he looks at Snape and ironically asks ”Have you grown to care for the boy?”... For me that was the moment when we saw in Harry Potter the younger, manipulative side of Dumbledore that fascinates me so much. ‘Cause he was really ready to send Harry to death “FOR THE GREATER GOOD”
I don't think Dumbledore planned for him to die. I'm not sure if one realizes it, but Dumbledore set in motion for Harry Potter to become master of death. Harry had the stone sent to him by AD, he already had the cloak and became the master to the elder wand. Dumbledore didn't want Harry to die. He only wanted him to face death - to make him the master of death.
I'm pretty sure Dumbledore knew - or at least suspected - that Harry would not stay dead. He had a look of triumph when Harry said Voldemort used his blood to return.
I know he is manipulative. But to blame him for doing literally the only thing that would stop Voldemort is a bit hypocritical. Literally nothing else could have been done. If he did not do exactly this, Voldemort would have remained immortal. And literally billions would have been enslaved or slaughtered. Yes he is manipulative. But he needed to make that decision. And he could not tell a soul of it. Doom an innocent boy to death, and groom him into a self sacrificing reckless hero. So that he could do what must be done. So that he would. Dumbledore is not an evil person. He is manipulative and he likes power. He was the most powerful wizard alive, arguably. And for all that power and knowledge, the only thing he could do. Is destroy the life of another young person. Imagine that situation. Almost revered as a god. Powerless to do anything. It's easy to judge when you don't have to make the hard decisions.
If Harry hadn't been there to collect Snape's tears, and if Snape never shared the tears Harry wouldn't have known the truth about Snape or even how to beat Voldemort...that's crazy
That's a haunting thought and there are no other witnesses to those facts either. All the marauders dead, dumbledore dead. Although perhaps the portrait of Phineas Nigellas Black in Dumbledores study or maybe Nearly Headless Nick ?
Its why when Snape was dying with Harry he was practically begging in desperation because he knew this was his last chance. Which is even more heartbreaking.

Snape being a good guy was the biggest cinematic plot twist since Vader told Luke he was his father. Never saw it coming..
well he did protect harry in other instances... but i get what you mean

To add to this, the reason Snape is my favourite person in Harry Potter is because of how intelligent he is. I have never seen a Harry Potter movie in the cinema. But hearing the godly voice of Dumbledore and Severus is incredible. Their voices are so deep and powerful, also the acting and the story coming together in this particular scene is phenomenal.
Richard Harris was perfect for dumbledore.
It’s a heartbreaking moment to see, especially Snape and Lily as kids and how tragic that story was…
Damn I never thought of it like that till now- its even more heartbreaking 😭 I love it. This actually makes a lot more sense.
Well not entirely true for Harry you know, i mean he casted a Cruciatus curse on Amycus Carrow (Against a death eater of course but he still count as a "fly") and you really need to have the intention for that to work ...

The fact that snape is a potions master and could brew a love potion to make lily fall in love but doesn’t is a testament to his good nature
You're right about that decision, showing his true character. (10/24/2021)

Crushing my heart.... especially since Snape really had a pure heart at the end. I'm certain he knew the wand was faithful to Draco and not him. But prefered sacrificing his life not to endanger Draco's. A true hero, who never needed recognition to be loyal and brave🙏
Yes. I just realized this . Thank you. But remember , Snape made an unbreakable vow to protect Draco. In either way he should die.
Hes saving his student
‘Cause he was really ready to send Harry to death “FOR THE GREATER GOOD”
omg so truee. I really agree, but I think it's a little bit the moment of both of them
I don't think Dumbledore planned for him to die.
Yes. This vindicates Aberforth's point of view.
"you've watch this scene so many times, how many times can you cry watching it?"
"Allways"
If Harry hadn't been there to collect Snape's tears, and if Snape never shared the tears Harry wouldn't have known the truth about Snape or even how to beat Voldemort...that's crazy
That's a haunting thought and there are no other witnesses to those facts either. All the marauders dead, dumbledore dead. Although perhaps the portrait of Phineas Nigellas Black in Dumbledores study or maybe Nearly Headless Nick ?
Its why when Snape was dying with Harry he was practically begging in desperation because he knew this was his last chance. Which is even more heartbreaking.
@@Blade9e7 In the books before Snape dies, Rowling mentions that in shrieking shack, Snape stared at the snake inside protective bubble while talking to Voldemort while voldemort was talking about the elder wand's inability to perform for him to the maximum. But snape repeatedly asked Voldemort to let him go find Harry and bring Harry to him.
Snape remembered Dumbledore advicing him to tell Harry that Harry had to die because of being a horcrux himself , when and only when there comes a time when Voldemort fears for nagini. Snape wanted to go find Harry and tell him so.
Then Voldemort mentioned elder wand and Snape killing Dumbledore and Snape understood what Voldemort was planning to do to master elder wand. Then only Snape knew that Voldemort intended to kill him , that he won't be able to find Harry and that Dumbledore was the previous master of elder wand and Dumbledore had other plans about elder wand's ownership when he asked Snape to kill him.
Dumbledore didn't thought Voldemort would find elder wand . He simply wanted the owner to die so as to prevent the succession of mastering the wand.
Snape realised that Dumbledore hid this piece of information from him before he was asked to make the promise about murdering Dumbledore.
Snape looked away from nagini only when he realised this. He was following Dumbledore's instructions to the dot .
