@@SomeOrangeCat The point is that the Saturn has great 3D games as well. Not every 2D game was best on the Saturn. Symphony of the Night is a good example of a bad 2D Saturn port.
The Saturn with a 4MB cart was a fucking 2D beast in Japan. The PlayStation by itself was a fucking 3D beast everywhere. They both had their strengths; no need for a war.
Technically, Saturn was the true 3D beast. Saturn had more power than Playstation in almost every way if you look at the specs. It was the more powerful console before the N64 came out (and the never released 3DO M2, which was far more powerful than PSX, Saturn and even N64 but way less powerful than Sega Model 2/3 and Dreamcast).
Correct. Saturn is a Pseudo 64-bit Console. Its powered with 4 Main processors(TWO 32-bit Threads, and TWO 32-bit Registers) with a Max Clockspeed of 56.7 MHZ, and 50 MIPS. Saturn is Also MUCH more Powerful than PlayStation. TWICE its power. With 4 MBs of Max RAM(as opposed to PS1's 1 MB), 500k Flat Shaded Polygons, as opposed to PS1's 360,000, Higher resolution, Faster more powerful clockspeed, and surprise: Saturn had even BETTER 3D technology than PS1. Yes, its TRUE. PS1 doesn't have Z Buffering, Can't do Perspective Correct or Multi Threading, Lacks Affine Plane Drawing, Can't do Dithers or Sprite Diffusion. PS1 also only used 48KB of Chache for Sprite and Polygon drawing, Saturn used Dual 256KBs. Saturn and Nintendo 64 are capable of all of these features.
@@Velasper Yes it was. It had more power, Higher Flat Shaded Polygons, Far more RAM and Memory, was capable of more Renders, and was SUPERIOR at mapping and texturing.

Most, if not ALL of the arcade ports on the PS1 suffered horribly from the obvious lack of RAM, and it clearly shows. The devs like Capcom and SNK, were literally FORCED to make HUGE cuts and sacrifices in the gameplay and features; in order work around all the hardware issues, just to make the PS1 ports work. I have NO doubt it must've been a real pain in the ass for them to work on the PS1 ports! More RAM could've benefited ALL types of games; not just fighting and arcade ports. Just like how a BIGGER house would benefit a LARGER family. Sega may have had some really bad marketing/sales problems in the US, but Sony had all of the marketshare and sales advantages they could ever want; and did NOT try to improve on it even further with just one simple hardware upgrade/fix. 👎

@@kekeke8988 No No sir that's not what the 4 MB RAM cart is for. It is not an Extra Chip. Its an Expansion Pak Cartridge with Extra Memory much like N64's. There's No Chip inside the Cartridge. The RAM Cart is exploiting the Saturn's Extra 4 MB VRAM that's built into the console already. Saturn has 4 MBs of Video RAM compared to PS1's 1 MB and Nintendo 64's 5 MBs of Video RAM. There's no Cheating going on. The Cartridge is simply pushing the amount of VRAM up to its Theoretical Maximum of 8 MBs. CPS3 has over 8-16 MBs of VRAM on average. The Extra Memory helps manage Saturn's Built in Animations, Playfields,BGs,Paralax Scrolling, Translucency. You should get informed. Stop reading Wikipedia. Learn Console Schematics. Saturn and Nintendo 64 had Genuine for 2D and 3D Wireframing, PS1 did not. It relied on SOFTWARE tools for effects. @@segaunited3855 That troll just needs to GET FUCKED... He dunno the first thing when it comes to doing ports on different gaming systems! The N64 was originally gonna have a 32MB RAM expansion cart planned in its demised future for arcade-perfect ports of SNK games like AOF3, RBFF, SSIV, and KOF'97. All supposeably to be released by the end of 1999. The initial demo carts weighed in at over 500+ megs. The games were supposed to be directly made by SNK themselves, and NOT by a half-assed 3rd party publisher like Takara. They were planning to sell those N64 ports for like 150 to 250 bucks a piece. No loading or missing frames of animations whatsoever. The audio and sound effect were going to be pretty close to CD-quality, but not exactly 100% perfect tho. Prolly ripped right from the NGCD versions, and then converted to whatever audio formats the N64 uses. Otherwise, arcade-perfect in every regard. When they tested demo carts of those games ported on the N64, I heard that they ran into some 'heating problems' with it, cuz the carts ran rather HOT in the system; due to all the MEGS. Cuz rarely do you ever see an N64 cart come in at over 512 megs. With 512 megs, they could already port like pretty much ANY game in the whole entire SNK library to the N64. Games that required like 1024 megs on the Neo Geo AES, could prolly still be ported reasonably well on the N64 with at least 80% accuracy. It really depends, on if there was ever such a need and also if they were gonna use good compression techniques or not. With the N64's speed and processing power + the HUGE cart sizes, I highly doubt that the SNK game ports would look nearly as bad as the ones did back then on the SNES tho. However, the project was ultimately SCRAPPED because of excessively high production costs; and the infamous 'cartridge tax' from Nintendon't! 😥
Playstation really jacked this one up. And had Sega Saturn stayed around and fixed their bugs on this game for the American version, it would've put Sony in shambles.

Back in the day I didn’t care for games like this, because they were 2D and not 3D. Now looking back I see how many amazing games I missed out on. I had a PS1, but I didn’t even know this game existed.
2D fighting games way back in the past had relied mostly on attack execution, recovery speed, combo timing, counters, reversals, and cornering or zoning in your opponents... Then when 3D fighting games started becoming a thing; it was like more about ring strategy then cuz you could now at least run, dodge, or roll outta the way more easily.
Both are made to manage 2D and 3D. Most of PS1 3D games use more 2D elements than 3D polygons. The Saturn can manage more polygons rates than PS1. They just manage both in two differents way.

I feel sorry for those who only played this game on the PS1. They got ripped off. I had a friend that didn't even know that you could switch between characters in a match. 😔
Yeah. I had both versions and basically "demo'd" them to people on the same display setup way back then. We had a lively arcade scene where I lived at the time, so it was easy. The Saturn version I imported was never localized, but I had a good percentage of people "enlightened" just by playing both (without even saying a word).
This game was way better on the Saturn than the PSX. They took out the tag feature on the PSX and I feel as if that's what made it bad on it, that and the Saturn had a faster loading time.
Not only that, but the Saturn gamepad was way hella better, much more accurate, and alot more comfortable for playing any sort of fighting games on compared to the standard default PS1 controller... Just try doing half-circle or 360 motions on the PS1 controller's D-pad; it'll blister your thumbs rather painfully!
The Saturn, if I recall, ran the game on a 4 MB RAM cart allowing for more animations and reduced load times. In addition, it could better handle running 2D games considering the tag team feature for XMvSF was intact for Saturn, while it was nixed on PS1 due to memory limitations. So for this comparison, Saturn easily prevails.
The Saturn port relied entirely on expansion memory and extra RAM, as well as the Sprite Drawing capabilities that PSX simply didn't have. Also Saturn was capable of Z Buffering. PSX is not. Saturn even bested PS1 at 3D, as well.

saturn uses full 2d graphics and the conversion is very faithful to the arcade. In the other hand the ps1 looks good but uses fake 2d graphics (because doesn't have the hardware to do something) and has more loading times so in this round saturn wins
Look at Castlevania SotN or Raiden II completely destroys the Saturn in 2D, Developers didnt bother they just ported their bad optimized arcade games to consoles
He's right about Castlevania, it's a much better port than the Saturn version. Saturn was more powerful for 2D but it was also harder to develop for. If the dev didn't make the most of both visual processors then both 3D and 2D suffered, and a lot of developers did not utilise the full power of the console, which is why some PS ports were quite a bit better.

I (for the most part) can forgive degraded graphics, but the PS1 port is missing the most important mechanic of this game, being able to tag between characters on the fly, and that's pretty much why I can't stand it.

PS1 handled 3D POORLY.
People just didn't realize it, then.
But was bottlenecked because it had only 1 MB of Exploitable Video RAM and didn't have real 3D Hardware that could map and texture properly. So it relied entirely on Rendering and Polygon Drawing.

Yep, Sega needed to give devs their internal dev kits in 1994 rather than being greedy.
