The only reason Jay-Z didn't stunt Kanye's growth is because Ye could produce his own music & didn't have to use leftover beats like n the video for Memphis Bleek

And Ye was NOT going to allow Jay to do so...he didn't take him serious which is why Ye paid for most of College Dropout out of his own pocket...Jay never believed in Ye's rapping but he wanted to keep Ye the producer which is the only reason he really signed him to the ROC and gave him that chain

It's one thing I give Jay credit for, he knows how to read people and understands how he could use their value to help himself. I don't think Jay ever intended to be an artist after vol 2. But that album blew so much he probably was like I can be a boss and rapper. Once Lyor Cohen started spending more time with Jay, he got in that elite crowd of bosses that Dame didn't connect with. That alone ended Rocafella.

I like the vid but Damon was the COO of Roc a fella. Dame ended up catching the blame for the Vl 1 sales. After that, Jay started breaking away under the tutelage of LC. Once Dame realized Jay was aiding with Lyor he sought to form a powerhouse distribution company to entice Jay back in the fold. Jay instead told LC and chaos ensued for the partners involved in the deal.

Going to give you some first hand insight, we were working on several days coming up with "JAYZ" songs. Then the 3rd day we get the list by email what songs he wanted to do. We had close to 20 in the bag and his list erased 15 of them😂😂😂. So the next day we headed up to NYC to rehearse (THIS OS FOR UNPLUGGED BTW) Jay comes in we hit off aight.
Now when Dame shown up to check on things I seen a 180° shift in those that were there. Like many of the entourage got tighten up and weren't as loose as they were before hand. So in the back of my head I'm thinking the rumours were true. (ESPECIALLY BEING FROM PHILLY MANY OF THE ROSTER IS THERE) So we continued then finished and got the set licked down. Now, it's the day of the show at MTV and we're all setup.
Right before the ending of "PHARRELL" shows up and "DAME" steps in. Once again seen the vibe again where certain people gave off this why is he here scenario. Then it was confirmed that it was downhill from there.
Watching a legacy defunct and artist being moved around then Beans and other artist that never got their chance was heartbreaking because there's so much talent. Still.....it was a great time in HipHop and R&B flourish in the charts with good music. It's an era we'll NEVER get again because there's something more important over all. Stunted growth it took Reasonable Doubt at least 7 years to go platinum it didn't nearly jump off like with that album like you said, Tupac calling out Jay z several times on His album Makeveli gave Jay z more nation wide exposure than Jay z music .

Lots of it is due to Jay's betrayals and Kanye siding with Jay over Dame

The only one made it was Kanye after Jay 🤣 because Kanye made beats produce & had knowledge on how to make songs hooks radio spins along with the beats he produce the rest was hood rappers to be honest without mainstream talent vision.
