- In this video I show how to fix items to plasterboard using only the Fisher Duo power wall plug and a wood screw. I show how and when to use the wall plugs, I show the problems you're likely to encounter and how to overcome them, and I show you some useful tips along the way. Top tip for fixing a batten to a wall - drill the pilot hole in the batten just big enough for the screw to pass through WITHOUT catching the threads. You should be able to insert and remove the screw without turning it. When you screw it into the wall plug, it will tighten against the wall much more solidly.

Excellent video. Thanks. Another scenario in older houses; one or two layers of plaster board, fixed onto ancient, now sandy, lime mortar, which itself has been applied onto and into a series of laths! A real pain to fix into!

Great video as always with good advice and tips. I’ve had good results with duopower fixings - for heavy items on dot and dab plasterboard I like core fix plugs.

I agree for heavy items but they're not necessary for most household objects, mirrors, pic frames etc. I find these plugs excellent for most uses. Thanks for watching.

Hi Pouse, Another nice video. I have 2 questions.
(Q1) What is the use or difference between "a SINGLE threaded screw", "a DOUBLE threaded screw",
and "a TRIPLE threaded screw"?
(Q2) What is the difference between COPPER screw, SILVER screw and GOLD screw?
I hope it isn't too difficult to explain or answer because I looked all the over the internet can't find a understandable difference or use for them.
Or unless you can make a video explaining the 2 questions I asked.

I’m a young woman about to move into a new build flat on my own, and need to put up curtain poles, mirrors, affix wardrobes to the wall etc and am really nervous about ruining my lovely new walls! Thank you for the video it’s really helpful, could you please also advise how I’ll know what type of walls I have and whether I’m about to drill into a pipe or electrical wire? Thank you.
Pipe or wire is tricky. If your cables have been done correctly they should only ever be in line vertically or horizontally with light switches or sockets. You also shouldn't drill within about 20cm of any corner as this is classed as a safe zone where cables can be run from ceiling to floor. You can buy cable detectors which beep to indicate a cable. You could try a strong magnut for pipes but usually pipes but new build may be plastic plumbing pipes so magnut no good. If it's new build you will probably have plasterboard. You'll know this if you tap it and it sounds hollow. When you drill this you will feel a short amount of resistance then drill will pop through so just stop drilling and you should be ok....a bit like in the video. It's a bit suck it and see! Great video thanks. How do I cover them up or remove them at the end of my rental?
If you put the screw slightly into the plug, then use a small piece of wood and rest it on the wall by the plug, then use a claw hammer to gently pull the screw out by levering it on the wood. With these particular plugs, if in plasterboard it may take a lump of wall out! But you can use some multipurpose filler and sand it back to make good. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

I bought these after being sucked in with the graphics. I used 8 of them and got a very strong fixing on 2 of them. The remaining 6, the screw is very loose and you can even wobble it. I used the screws they said and the correct size drill bit in dot & dab. I'm not sure what I've done wrong
Maybe you need to keep turning the screw to scrunch the plug up on the back of the plaster board? You could try a slightly thicker guage screw? Let me know how you get on. Best of luck.
could use the combi drill for both drilling the hole and screwings and not require impact driver? plus you can set lower torque and speed on it so as you don't rip it up too tight and bust the plug. and why are you using the plug plus your finger to estimate the length of the screw? 12:30 could perhaps be clearer if you said to drill the depth of the screw, and used the screw itself i noticed in a few parts like 10:00 you said drill the length of the plug rather than screw. - but overall an informative video thanks/

You should really keep turning the screw in plasterboard to scrunch up the back of the Duoplug!
I was about to say the same! If they don't over-screw, the plus won't catch at the back of the plasterboard and will certainly come off 😂
Would you then remove the screw completely … then re screw the screw back in with your required fitting sandwiched in between?

Just to echo everyone else, really excellent video - to the point and you cover things so clearly. If you have a chance to answer, I recently found out that I've got metal studs - would it be best to avoid these when fixing wall plugs, or is it a case of using a different screw? Cheers.
If you take a look at easy drive, self drive screws in screwfix that'll give you an idea of what's available. They are screws designed for screwing into steel and will drive themselves in with no drilling required. I've never actually come across steel studs domestically but I think that's your best bet providing there is no gap between your surface and the steel stud. Where you have just plasterboard with a void then just use plugs as per video. Hope that helps.

@@neilogrady3779 Better using Bullfix Plasterboard fixings if you want strength. I use these for all metal jumbo studded walls. Much simpler. Also if you use a 2.5mm metal drill bit you can drill a pilot hole through the metal stud and use a standard No 10 screw or 5.00mm diameter screw to go straight into the metal stud. If you want or need to fix to Plasterboard, then use nothing else but Bullfix Plasterboard Fixings which also take the same screws as I have just mentioned. ua-cam.com/video/I79Y0YJNKRM/v-deo.html

Hi, the way the duopower work, the screw needs fully screwed in to allow the plug to bunch up and expand (when using plasterboard). So with leaving a little bit of the screw not fully screwed in (to allow a picture to hang) will these still be strong enough and expand behind the plasterboard?
They'll still be stronger than a normal plug and if in doubt use a longer screw to allow the plug to bunch up, and leave a bit of screw sticking out. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Hi great video. Could you use these fisher plugs into tile ?
You can but it would need something behind it like plasterboard or masonry. Never rely on tiles to provide the strength. Just careful when you tighten them, if you over tighten there's a chance you could crack the tile.

Hi buddy. I am trying to mount venetian blinds to the ceiling using the supplied brackets which require two screws for each bracket. It is a false ceiling above a bay window and there are no joists in the right location. Will using these plugs be sufficient enough to support the weight of wooden venetian blinds?

Hi. I’ve seen countless video where with plugs people over screw to allow the plug to follow form behind the wall and then they reverse the screw out a little. You didn’t show this.. any ideas?

would a 4.5 x 60mm work but the thread isn't all the way to the top of the screw?
It will, but to work best you want the whole of the screw inside the plug with thread. If the bit outside the plug has no thread then it's fine. If in doubt give it a go and test it out! Hope that helps.
at 6:10, when hammering it down, mine doesnt go all the way in. Even with a hammer. Any recommendation? I am using plastorboard

Hiya, I love this channel and I watch a shed load. Can you offer some advice please ?
I’m tiling a small bathroom and I need to tile (600x300 porcelain) the shower and half the walls. I’m intending to dot and dab with MR plasterboard what mechanical fixings should I use through the dried dot and dab adhesive prior to scrimming taping and tanking.
Assuming you're referring to mechanical fixings for the plasterboard in addition to the adhesive? In reality I don't think many people use mechanical fixings although it is recommended. I never have and my walls have been fine. If you search nailable plugs, they look like a viable option and are recommended by british gypsum for their laminate products. Basically a wall plug which you tap the nail into rather than a screw. But if you look at their dot and dab 'how to' on the website there is no mention of mechanical fixings. Other option is to build a stud wall fixed to the masonry. Then fix your plasterboard to that. Hope that helps and best of luck!
Could I mount a tv bracket to plaster board using your methods?
Personally I wouldn’t risk it, get at least one side screwed into the wooden joists behind plasterboard.
What is the minimum thickness of plasterboard these will work in?
They should work in a 9mm. I'm not even sure plasterboard is made thinner than 9mm? Best of luck.
why we don't need the plug when the wall is timber but we need when it is brick? Also, do we need to match the size of screw to wall plug? For example, is it okay to use 4.5 x 50mm screws on 8x40 wall plugs?
The screw was screwed into the timber through the plasterboard so no wall plug needed, a screw won’t hold in just brick it will pull out so a wall plug is needed. You want the screw to be slightly longer than the wall plug, but also take the thickness of the item your hanging, E.g if it’s a 1 inch batten you also need to add 1 inch to the length of the screw.

If you’re using that plug on plaster board you need a partial threaded screw otherwise the it wouldn’t pull itself to a thick ball behind the plasterboard
It would not be very strong if you used as a dot and dab fixing with a cavity, the screw would bend under load and damage the plasterboard. Better with Bullfix Plasterboard fixings that are made for cavity stud walls and dot and dab and take standard No 10 screws and 5.0mm diameter screws. take a look here ua-cam.com/video/7njhszp3a2g/v-deo.html
