I've mentioned this in other videos about beach cities of VN and it's a pretty good thing in my mind. Vietnamese come out early, around 6 - 7:30am to exercise on the beach or swim in the ocean. Then they go home, have breakfast and off to work and school. They stay out of the hot intense sun during the daytime, leaving it empty for us foreigners (who will soon find out how hot the sun is). Around 4:30pm after a long hot day of working and schooling, the locals go back out to the beach to exercise and swim. The few food vendors sell their food. I personally love that communal access to the beach where rich and poor locals can enjoy their god given benefit. I've visited a fair number of countries with glorious beaches but many of those have become the exclusive enclaves of high end resorts and their snooty foreign guests who balks at seeing normal locals in "their" beach. That may not be the case in Australia and I'm hoping that's true. It's just a healthy and balanced/equitable way of life. As an aside guys, I think it's a great idea you rented an automatic scooter and not that image-based beat up mountain motorcycle that is hard to drive in heavy traffic, not to mention quick to break down. Having said that, if you're riding 2, the automatic scooters will struggle in mountainous roads. Take care and thanks for the video.

I’m a resident of Nhatrang. I would like to adjust a very small of your information: “Vietnamese come out the beach very soon, around 6:30-7:00”. In fact, Vietnamese come out to the beach from 4:00 AM to swim, do excersie, jog…

A lot of places in SE Asia come to life at night because it is so hot in the daytime. Also in places that are very affordable I always look at the price difference of rooms that include breakfast vs ones that don't bc if I am staying very central to many places with food it's usually cheaper and better quality if I don't eat at the hotel.

My adviced for you dont come to Viet Nam. The people are very intelligent , they crack your mind open and you feel ashame of yourself . Viet Nam open up to the world for 3 decades, hundred of million of people travelled to the country for holiday. Your father serve in Vietnam but he never take the family there . That mean he doesnt have any love for the country or the people. The only reason you want to go to Vietnam because you cant find true love in your life. Vietnamese people very agressive amd rude, they only care if you have the money to pay for it or not. They dont need you to say hello and thank you.

People tend to be so judgmental when they first arrived and set their foot on the ground/ new travel destination without having yet to experience a thing or giving the place a chance to show you around its attractions, fun and excitement. IMO, if a person is so quickly judgmental about places they should just better off quit travelling to foreign countries. An individual with an open heart to different cultures/food/sceneries/lifestyles/locals and mostly respect for the destination they travel to, will always be the one who has the greatest time and experience. I travel a lot and dislike people who moan, groan, judgmental about the tourism places they visit.

      Kim stands for Golden-golden dragonfly

    • @hungcuongnguyen293
      @hungcuongnguyen293 2 роки тому +1

@@jamesanhdungwest The word Kim could mean Metal or Gold ( in Sino-Vietnamese / tiêng Han Viêt ) and Needle ( in plain Vietnamese/tiêng Nom) . According to the plain Vietnamese grammar (Van Pham tiêng Nom) , the adjective ( tinh tu ) or the attribute adjective is always placed after the noun , but it`s the opposite in Sino-Vietnamese . Chuon-Chuon KIm is used here as a plain Vietnamese group of words , because Chuon-Chuon is a plain Vietnamese noun and the attribute adjective Kim is placed after the noun . So definitely it has the plain Vietnamese meaning : Needle . If you want to translate the name of that restaurant as Golden Dragonfly in English , it should be written Chuon Chuon Vang on the sign . Definitely Chuon-Chuon Kim can never be translated in English as Golden Dragonfly but Needle Dragonfly . Golden Dragonfly in Sino-Vietnamese is Kim Long Diêp ( but not many Vietnamese people know or use that word ) . FYI Chuon Chuon Kim is a rare specie of dragonfly which you can find only in some regions of VN . They are tiny and skinny like a needle , so the locals call them Chuon Chuon KIm .

My Vietnamese wife and I stayed in Nha Trang for 6 months, about 12 years ago and lived 2 streets back from the Lotus statue on beach road. We were thinking of buying a house there but the speed of development put us off. But it was a great place to chill, go for scooter rides to the hot spring baths, or up in the Hills we found Doctor Pasteur's wooden half way rest stop cabin on one trip. Beaches north and south were great day trips and maybe a beer or three at the brew pub on the way home. The brew pub had a pool so you could get both sides wet.
Kids sleep in the afternoon when it hot, and I'm a big kid so I'm laying on the bed now. Then the whole family jump on the scooter and take a ride along beach road, maybe stop for an ice cream, drink etc., the ride home puts baby to sleep.
I live have way between Saigon and Vung Tou, grow lots of fruit and along with 8 or so locals we have a pot luck supper. Each will bring a dish and dipping sauce for that dish, now these can be pretty wild and take about 4 beers to cool the mouth. Luckily we each person brings a slab of his choice of beer. My choice is Saigon lager the same as you were drinking on the beach. I had to teach them UK drinking habits, no ice in the beer, no cheers for every sip, no bottoms up with anybody who does put ice in as there's only a thimble full of beer in there.
Thanks for posting and I hope you enjoy your time in Vietnam.

When I was in Vietnam, the beach in Hoi An was the only slightly busy beach during the day I found, only because there were more foreigners around. You won’t see any Vietnamese sunbathing. I am living in Thailand and my Thai girlfriend keeps out of the sun whenever possible, most Asian women want to keep there skin as white as possible!

@pancakestac nearly every cream in SE Asia and Indonesia contain whitening cream, it's pretty obvious why they stay out of the sun. This happens in India too for various reasons, usually due to where they sit on the socio economic scale. Meanwhile Australians sunbathe in the heat of the day to turn brown and we have the highest rates of skin cancer. Be happy with the skin colour you were born with.

Vietnamese restaurant names are usually puns. Cuz Vietnam was under Chinese rule for like 10 centuries so the Vietnamese language has a lot of Chinese elements. And people usually use Sino-Vietnamese for poetry purposes.
The one you get lunch is called 'Chuồn Chuồn Kim' and it has at least 2 meanings.
First, the literal one: Chuồn Chuồn Kim = Damselfly.
And the other one is can get a direct translation to Golden Dragonfly. Kim = 金 = Gold, Chuồn Chuồn = Dragonfly, by the way, they decorate the restaurant, especially the sign, I think it fits the theme.
The bao place you guys go to later also has at least 2 meanings. Bao Ngon = Delicious Bao.
That phrase is also slang to declare something delicious. 'Bao' = "covering the expense or guaranteeing something". Bao Ngon = Delicious Guaranteed.
But this punch is only appropriate to Southern Vietnamese, Northern accent speakers won't really get the pun and also the slang if they don't talk to a Southern Vietnamese much. They will understand 'Bao' as slang for 'I will cover the expense' and that's the only meaning here.
A small Vietnamese language and culture for you guys.

    Hey Guys,
I really enjoyed this video because it brought back the good memories from traveling there and other places in Vietnam in 2004 to 2007.
Thank you for being careful to name the restaurants and places you stayed for future travel possibilities. I liked the drone footage of the beach and the music that accompanied it. You have found a "sweet spot" in your editing to not jump from scene to scene too fast. Moving quickly between images seems to be a standard now, but I find it distracting when trying to explore a place from video.

Hey great video mate, I use to live in Nah Trang 2000, 2001, I was working on the tour boats out too the island, Mama Linh tours. Great 1 year and 9 months of my life, I,d spend 10 weeks there and 4 or 5 weeks in Patong Beach with my girlfriend on and off. Yeh mate I always had the helmet problem. I always use to think what it would be like when I was out off the coast on a boat, yes I,d always think about in 10 or 20 years how much it has changed. It looks like the gold coast now crazy. I,ve been back to Thailand a lot but haven't been able to get back to Vietnam. Maybe next year. The Vietnamese people don,t like the sun so that's why you see them very early morning or late afternoon on the beach. It's just their way. If you get the chance try the BBQ Venison I can,t remember the name of the street but it's about 500 metre,s off the beach nearly directly behind the town hall. Just ask someone I,m sure they will tell you where it is.
It's a must mate probably near the best meat I,ve ever tasted. Vietnam is very vibrant especially Nah Trang City. Also there is a very beautiful area about 20 km North of the city with a great waterfall and big Rock to jump from incredible experience and very cool water so refreshing. Anyway goodluck mate on your journey and maybe I,ll subscribe to your channel soon. Just keep giving me a reason to watch. Don,t be too bland like some other couples who just get boring afterwards and then we look for better videos. Cheers 🍻 mate.

@Lloyd & Mandy yeah at times now I,m just working in Australia, as I,m late 50,s. Although I still try to stay active and travel when possible especially. Around S.E.Asia probably because I have some great friends there. And I don,t like flying much further the 8 or 9 hours. 🍻

Nha Trang was always the main destination for Russians in Vietnam, with plenty of direct flights. Going round the more touristy bar/cafe areas, you'll normally see signs in Russian before English. I'd imagine there are far fewer now than there used to be, which would explain it being so quiet.

Ok, I have a question - if you ran across a really bad hotel, restaurant, food, service, etc - would you included in your video? Many travel bloggers don't because they are afraid of repercussion, which I understand. But would you?
