As a Canadian I haven't really formed a strong opinion during this trial. I opened this video and thought to myself I will keep an open mind and hear their stories. As I'm watching my eight year daughter was sitting nearby and said "mommy when is Jesus coming?" I asked her why she said that and she replied "because this world is very sad"
She asked me if I ever thought of having an abortion and I explained to her my story for the first time and she cried so hard I had to turn off the video to console her.
I was a successful career woman living my dream job and traveling...then I got
pregnant before marriage to my now husband who was living in Jamaica at the time. I come from a very traditional family and once I got pregnant I knew that it would bring shame to them. My husband wasn't able to come to Canada until she was 3 years old and for those early years I had to travel back and forth and cried everytime I went through customs alone.
Life in Canada was hard for me I was living as a single mother and had to rely on food banks and barely make rent. My family and friends were not supportive and felt I made a huge mistake.
I carried that shame for many years.
Today my husband and I are now living in Canada with our 3 beautiful children. I'm a homeschool mom and also a Christian.
I had to rebuild my career but I was able to be successful again to the point where I doubled my previous income.
Moral of my story is that no matter how difficult my life was... God provided a way. I had all the reasons to choose abortion but I didn't and now I get to watch my beautiful daughter grow into a lady. I'm getting tears in my eyes as I write this 🥺 I hope that my story helps someone else.

None of this was uncomfortable though. As someone who is pro-choice, I already fully understand and acknowledge (and have compassion for) the many reasons why a woman would make this difficult decision. While I thank you for spreading awareness on this issue and giving these women a chance to share their story, what I would really want to see is a conversation between the two opposing sides. This is one of the reasons morals are important, because it keeps you out of having to make a decision as heart wrenching as abortion.
I was raped, and if a pregnancy would’ve resulted I had already decided on adoption. I was 16 and lived in a single mother household with four other siblings and we were very poor! I ended up divorced when I was 22 and became a single parent. I was very poor. I took accounting classes at home which gave me the opportunity to make a better wage. After that I worked and paid my way through college class by class. Took me awhile but I did it. It improved my earnings. God helped me through it all! But, the one thing that really motivated me was this one sentence I would repeat over and over in my head which was “always seek upward mobility!”. And that is what I did. The fact that life has been diminished to a bunch of cells that can be discarded is truly sad and says a lot about society.

In my counseling experience, (which I understand does not necessarily represent the larger population), the overwhelming majority of clients who had an abortion felt "haunted" by their decision despite having support. They experienced deep grief and regret which they carried decades later. I know this certainly isn't every woman's experience, but I'd like to see stories like theirs represented in this discussion. It's a mindset for women since birth to be shamed by society just for not being born a dude. Let's please stop the hipocrisy and start treating people fair, with dignity and respect and not do any more of shaming and propaganda. Life is difficult enough as it is, let's stop blaming people for things outside of our control and support the people in the decisiona they have control over, and that includes the choice to carry to term or abort.

These women aren't coming to talk to you, because they don't need to, and I believe this is the majority of women.

      @elliesager Рік тому +23

Please, don't forget about another side. There are also women who chose NOT to have an abortion, ended up having a child and regretted it. Yet due to the stigma, they have to stay silent and feel ashamed for not "loving" the life they ended up living as opposed to the one they wanted to have.
Also, those poor children have to live knowing that their mother could have had a much better life if they were not here. I know. I am both - a child born to a mother who has not planned me and a mother of a child whom I did not want. It's very painful and nobody wins.
One can have an abortion and regret it later. One can chose to continue the pregnancy and regret it later as well. But it's inhumane to force a person to go one way or another. That's why a choice is important.

@@clberka These women did not seek counseling on account of abortion regret. My work was at an emergency shelter for women aged 18+ experiencing homelessness, and it was of no cost to them. It takes great courage to be vulnerable and truly honest with others, let alone ourselves. People wisely and bravely pursue counseling for reasons far beyond regret over an abortion. There sadly remains a stigma around counseling; there is NO SHAME in needing “help” for anything. It is the strong, not the weak, who recognize their need, reach out, and pursue healing. My point was that there are women who do in fact experience deep loss and even remorse post0abortion and their stories matter too. Even as a minority, there should be room at the table for them to share their experience without judgment or shame. Their experience is helpful for other women to make a fully-informed decision and to be prepared (and make a plan) for possible future psychological stress that many aren’t willing to discuss. I'm pro-choice, but found it disappointing that additional perspectives were not included. The obvious one being a woman who had an abortion and regrets it? Or a woman who was pregnant and decided not to get an abortion? And the ectopic pregnancy perspective is interesting, but I feel this is very different than an elective abortion procedure as it's not a viable pregnancy to begin with. Unfortunately, the legislation in some states makes the medical provider liable for providing proof that an abortion was life saving. In a life-saving situation, you don't want your medical provider worried about whether they'll be convicted of a crime. States like Texas will end up with women that die due to nonviable pregnancies simply because medical providers are too afraid to act.
States like Ohio forces a 10-years-old rape victim to travel to Indiana for an abortion. Despite the viability of the fetus, a child's body is not meant for pregnancy and giving birth.
The problem with these laws is, as the guests mentioned, the lack of nuance. They divide abortion into black and white lines.

"They could be resolved by a legislature trying to engage in more specificity, which they will not do," predicts Kim Mutcherson, co-dean of Rutgers Law School whose scholarship focuses on bioethics and reproductive justice. In places where abortion is illegal, legislators will broadly "want to make it as difficult as possible, and one of the ways that you do that is [by] creating a standard where people don't know with specificity whether what they're doing is right or wrong."

Pay attention to the wording, is very important.
Your life isn't at risk with an ectopic pregnancy from the get go. They can pass naturally. It isn't until it actually ruptures, where there's a VERY small window to receive care before you die, that it becomes life threatening. Ectopic embryos can have cardivascular activity up until minutes before they rupture.
The texas law blanket bans doctors from performing abortions (a medical proceedure) that actively Prevent people from getting into a life threatening conditions even when any medical professional knows it's coming. So no, there is no exception for ectopic pregnancies until the absolute worst case scenario where survival rate is at it's lowest.

For anyone wondering, removing a tube with an implanted embryo is not an elective abortion.
This is an instance of a principle known as double effect. The surgery’s intention is to remove a tube that could easily rupture and cause the woman to bleed excessively, given that embryos implant in tissues with a rich blood supply.
The death of the embryo is an undesirable secondary effect of treating the inflamed tissue. It’s not an intentional attack on the growing embryo.
This treatment of the damaged tissue is not forbidden by law, even in Texas, because it’s not an elective abortion. The woman needs the site of implantation operated on so it can heal. The loss of the growing embryo is an unfortunate secondary effect of this treatment.

Isn't the life of a person out of the womb just as precious and special as the life of a fetus?
Is it disgusting that the life of a father of four small children who is dying of renal failure or the life of a 5 yr old gunshot victim who is bleeding out on the street is now legally of less value than the life of a fetus?
The Supremes have set themselves up to be confronted by dying Americans who can't survive without a donated organ or body part. They will be demanding the court rule on which "humans" are more deserving of organs stolen from others and explain why their lives are less important!
As transplant surgery continues to improve our nation will continue to be confronted by this issue: What makes the life of a fetus more valuable and worth saving than my life?
      Or yours?

For so long we didn’t understand the actual science of life beginning at conception. but now we talk abortion as if choosing to end a life is really no big deal. May God have mercy on our souls! Hopefully next time there is a conversation about abortion with women, we also include the pro-life point of view and the mothers that have chosen life even in the toughest of circumstances.

Since when does empathy and love require compromise of principle? Loving people, especially broken people, doesn't required support for their decisions.
The pastor brought up the woman caught in adultery and correctly emphasized the love and forgiveness Jesus had for her. However, she conveniently left out the part where he says, "go and sin no more."

    • @PaxPixie
      @PaxPixie Рік тому

Because that isn't relevant to the situation and is ultimately an opinion. Your principles shouldn't condemn thousands, maybe millions of women to death or a lifetime of suffering, struggle, and poverty. Ending an ectopic pregnancy or ending a pregnancy because the mother's life is in danger or the fetus has a non-survivable birth defect isn't a "sin". It's a life-saving medical procedure.
Not that any woman should have to justify her reasoning, but what if a woman is mentally unstable with depression and/or other mental health issues and she knows that either pregnancy or parenthood would likely result in her death by suicide? Pregnancy can literally alter a woman's brain chemistry. Why do you think postpartum depression is a thing? That doesn't make her evil or a sinner. It makes her a human being who is trying to save their own life.
Finally, the vast majority of women who have abortions don't have a second one so if all you said was "go and sin no more" then that's fine. You're welcome to do so... but Jesus DIDN'T say "You made a difficult decision and chose to "sin". Therefore you must die." Because banning abortion even in the case of risk to the mother is condemning thousands and thousands of women to death. Jesus said "He who is without sin cast the first stone.". He didn't then pick up the stone and beat the woman to death with it.

To all the guests: I am pro-life, womb to tomb, and I don't know you but do care about you and the child you lost. I would never call an ectopic pregnancy viable so it's not an abortion. I do celebrate the lives that will be saved in this S.C. decision while I pray and financially support the THOUSANDS of pro-life centers working hard, day and night, to expand to new territory (like urban and rural areas) and support women, their dreams, their preborn babies, their born babies, their growing families, and the father (who more than ever these men are starting to show up and want to be a part of things). I support other pro-life (but with other names) organizations, centers, and advocacy programs who reach a wide array of humans in the thick of things. It is possible to fight for both the woman and the child's rights to a life that can be looked back on and know that all the ups and downs were accomplished because each one had someone to turn to. We can fight for that, now. So where's all the big donation dollars from the people who have big checkbooks, in these needs? Will they be the ones to refuse to fund life-giving centers bc they wanted a different ruling? Let's come together to find and support all lives, from coast to coast, period.

Very disappointing. I too thought this would be an actual conversation between people with differing views. Unity will never happen if we only surround ourselves with people who think just like us. I was hoping for something better.

I wish that everyone could watch this program. I am a teacher and my students are freshmen and sophomores and I was floored when the discussed abortion in class, all on their own. I reminded them that I was in the class and they responded it is because you are in the class we can discuss this. They said that they knew I would not judge and that I would provide information. I am pro-choice. I face two pregnancies that were not viable and my life was at risk. Both times I had a d & c, which under current circumstances may not be possible. Emmanuel, I watch you all the time on Speak for Yourself. You make me mad talking about my Dallas Cowboys but I admire you so much. When you first got on SFY I had to Goigle you but after watching a few times I came to admire you. Shows such as Uncomfortable Conversations raises that admiration to a whole other level of respect. Please keep doing shows like this. You are a blessing.

Love this one, Emmanuel. And thank you to the beautiful women who opened up and shared their stories for the world to hear, they are such brave and kind souls. This is normally a difficult conversation to have, and you were able to conduct it with such grace and empathy that I wish more people had. I also thoroughly enjoyed Pastor Chelsea and more specifically her comment on how this video put faces and souls behind the statistics that everyone shares when trying to explain how important safe and legal abortions are. So well done in every aspect.

    • @journiepope

There are definitely safe and unsafe abortions, for the mother, who is of utmost importance. Millions of women will be putting their own lives at risk and in many cases dying in order to perform unsafe abortions. If you would rather an unborn fetus be saved than a grown, living and breathing human, then that’s your own opinion and that shouldn’t be legally enforced on others.

I think it's wrong for people to act like people who are pro-life have no compassion. We all make mistakes, but what about "compassion" for the unborn child, and taking responsibility for your actions (yes the man is a participant, but so is the woman). If the mother's life is in danger due to pregnancy, save her life, but it's clear that people are magnifying cases that don't happen as often as women just having abortions to keep from taking responsibility.

This wasn’t an uncomfortable conversation. It didn’t include the voices of the people who are out there fighting for those who don’t have a voice. Our most vulnerable lives, the unborn, are thankfully getting closer to having their human rights recognized by the overturning of Roe v Wade. Also, these people are so close to getting it..understanding why it’s so hard to accept, why there is shame. It’s because you’re intentionally ending a human life that you chose to create. The choice was already made.
