I was 7 years old the first time I rode the snails This was 1953 (coronation year) so the ride was nearly new. I must have been on other rides but it is the snails that linger in the memory. My own boys also visited the park in the late 70`s and have fond memories. They are 50 and 48 now. My grandson who is 3 will continue the tradition if I have anything to do with it.
Hi great to see Joyland again, I worked there in the school holidays in the mid 70's. I'm 60 now. First year I ran the Racing Cars. The following year, the Tubs.I loved every minute I was there. In those days we could work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week! I remember once, we sent Michael (now the owner, was a schoolboy then) round the Tubs 13 or so times, he couldn't walk straight for about 20 minutes! Happy days!
I really appreciate that you do smaller parks also aimed at young children too even though as an adult you’d expect you would only want to go to the big parks with big coasters. As a parent of two young children your vlogs really help me decide on places we can visit as a family. We are away for a week in Hopton near Great Yarmouth in July so this has helped loads! So again, thank you!
Aww lovely back at my childhood holiday place so many happy memories 😊 love the snails and the tubs my mum used to take me on them rides when I was a little girl. I was about 4 when I first went on the rides back in 1974 but it could have been younger I know mum and dad were taking me on holiday to great Yarmouth as a baby . Mum and dad have passed away now 😢 this brings back such happy memories. Thank you shawn xxxx
No matter what age you are you always leave this park with a smile on your face. Great vlog, classic rides, bargain prices and what a Gem. Long may it continue. First went last year but it won't be the last. Thanks for sharing 👌😊
I’m on holiday in September with my family for 2 weeks, and so looking forward to going, I haven’t been here since 2009, and we as a autism family love all this. Love watching your channel.
I’ve been here once in 1976 (approx) . I was left there while my sister went shopping . The rides were all 5p each . The train of cars with the steering wheels went faster in those days . (If I remember correctly) and the snails took me by surprise ! They are great sent they ! Ive always wanted to go back . At the time I didn’t know there was a bigger park (pleasure beach) and I was so upset when a school friend told be about it . But watching this video made me realise that actually I was in the best place all along. One of my happiest theme park experiences as a child .
Great to see that historic parks and especially the. Rides are being cared for and still can be enjoyed , we have lost too many classics in the past so the more that can be preserved the better 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Mate, I go down there with my friends whenever we go out and we always go on the snails 😂😂 Also the thing I notice is the Hollywood cinema in the background RIP cinema will be loved 😔😔
I first went there in 1980. Loved joyland. Nice to see it hasn't changed. Although I can remember the Noah's ark ride that got replaced by the spaceship. Happy memories.
Reminds me so much of my childhood, first went probably around 1985 then every year up until 1994/95 ish. Love how it hasn't changed at all. I must go and visit, just a trek from Blackpool where I live
My favourite has got to be the snails 🐌 Absolutely love this park especially because of the tub twist as I would have loved to have experienced the Blackpool Virginia reel so this is the next best thing. You're so deserving of the free ride tokens for everything you do. I know you appreciate every park you visit and you promote them all really well. Your enthusiasm always shows in every vlog.
Wow! That brought so many memories flooding back. The snails at Joyland are iconic. I first rode them when I was around 3 back in the 70s. My parents still have cine film footage of it! The snails and the tubs are, as you said, absolute classics. I feel a nostalgia trip coming on. Thanks for this vlog. I love how enthusiastic you are about this place.
I love your vlog . Joyland is great , fond memories I first visited in 1964 and went on the rides with my Dad . I now visit every year with my daughter . There used to be a Noah's Ark ride with a real parrot in it where the spook express is. Great staff .
I was born in January 1997, i think my first visit must have been that August. I first did spook (as i call it) when i was 4 years old. the snails and tubs when i was about 7/8 months old! I was young, handy when your grandparents had a holiday home in lowerstoft you could stay in so went loads growing up!!
If you enjoy heritage rides you will definitely love Knoebels, I worked there for 13 years and loved it. Depending when you are going to be there I might be able to be a "tour guide" of sorts.
Have you heard about Camel Creek (formerly Crealy) in Cornwall? They have rethemed their existing coaster to ‘Clown Coaster’ and according to the rcdb and the park’s map, are installing a family suspended coaster! It looks to be a vekoma quite similar to flight of the pterosaur. rcdb.com/17212.htm They’ve also reopened their log flume.. John Browne seems to be putting the place in shape - exiting stuff! 😂great video 👍
@@ThemeParkWorldwide I second that. Pettits is excellent. First visited Joyland in the 1970s as a kid. Living in Norwich we are so close to Gt Yarmouth so over the years we have taken our own kids there. Good memories. Thanks for the Vlog Shawn
Knoebels is the first amusement park I recall as a child. So excited you are coming to visit as it is quite unique, and has the world's best wooden roller coaster, The Phoenix. Not just my opinion, but currently ranked #1. If you are visiting the area I can definitely provide some guidance as Pennsylvania is very different than many of the other parts of the state we've seen you vlog from.
Last year was actually the first time I’d been to joyland (or that I can remember!) I’m 35 and used to holiday just up the road from Great Yarmouth in hemsby when I was little
Hope to do this and the other parks in Great Yarmouth in 2021 as well as Alton Towers and my local parks Folly Farm and Oakwood. If I did a trip for the three parks there, how long would you recommend in each park and how many nights? I'm over 4 hours away so I want to stay.
I agree that the snails is the best ride!!!! I went in the 80's when I was a child but my mum and dad used to ride the wooden coaster at pleasure beach when they were dating!!!
live around norwich so always local along with pleasure wood, i went to oakwood a day after you came last year and then i went to pleasure wood today, missed you on both occasions.
I'm just like u Shawn with Joyland! Love it so much from my childhood! Hoping to take my own kids there soon ☺ were only just over an hour away so not to far for us 👍
Never change Joyland, first went in 1983 probably last about 1993 but its never changed (in a good way) used to be a space ship thing where that coaster was I think. Looked like a space shuttle.

I live 888 kilometers from Alton towers and if I want to go there, I have to travel for days, the cheapest is with the ferry, which takes half a day on the way there and also half a day on the way back. Europapark, Phantasialand and of course the Efteling are better and much easier to get to for me... (And cheaper!!!) Nice vlog Shawn!! I also love heritage rides in the Efteling, Slagharen, Hellendoorn and Europapark... Phantasialand is to small to leave heritage rides, so it seems!? Greetings from the Netherlands!!
I went here as a kid! Also when I was 3, born in 1993 too! Used to go to the house of wax museum (was voted Britain's worst waxworks!) but that closed down. Also from the Midlands and come to Yarmouth every year for the family holiday, a great place!
