Colombia is my Country and it never fails to amaze me, the number of foreigners coming to live here is suprising, it's true there are some areas in the country where you´d rather not live due to social issues and violence, but Medellin and its surrounding towns are safe for the most part and beautiful too... just use common sense like you would do in any other city in the world and you´ll be good... if you´re a visitor and you need a word of advice about life in Medellin my homecity I´d be glad to help
I visited Pereira for 5 days and fells in love with the place, I Bought a 1400 sq ft apartment for under 200k in the nicest area of the city. Has a over sized balcony with a hot tub over seeing the mountains. You can’t beat cost of living there compare to the US.

My father in law if from there. I'm glad its not overran with gringos like Medellin is! And it has so many places outside the city to visit and explore. But I can also speak the language which is a plus.
The price def depends on where you live in colombia. I live in Villavicencio. I have a house with 2 floors. 5bdrooms, 2 bath, garage and balcony and it costs 260 a month usd. This same house in medellin will probably cost about 1k now a days

The Colombian architects really appear to have a great taste. I've seen so many awesome places there (online). Better than anything I've seen in Europe or the US, and very affordable in comparison.

I'd say the landscape and weather of that area in Columbia matches best with Northern California. Considering that you're about an hour outside of a major city, I'd compare it to somewhere like San Ramon, CA (about an hr away from San Francisco). If we compared the price of a unit like that in a suburb of a major city in California, it would probably run you about $3000 a month. I'm thinking about going to school for an associate degree of some sort, so I can get a nice high paying digital Nomad job. I'm tired of working my ass off, just to live paycheck to paycheck in a broke down 1 bedroom apartment.

I’ve been 3 times , 1 time alone & twice with my wife .. there is actually nothing to be afraid of . I would even take my kids there now that they’re teenagers.. Panama belize & Mexico has much more aggressive street dealers. Plus Colombia has a “tourist police” that are everywhere & always very helpful.
Don't be afraid or believe what others say or what they have experienced. Use common sense, and you'll be fine. Traveled alone and have been here going on two months will be here until June then coming right back in August to stay permanently.

$250 USA is over a billion Colombian dollars. The average income is $10 a day. I believe an apartment on a mountain in the USA is more than $2000. New York City is $10,000 a month for something like that.

The view is worth the price you pay but everyone loves a dreamer, that apartment /condo is at least 2500.00 a month plus utility and food, and plans are afoot to move down and retire in Colombia, thx for this insight .
This apartment without the view, on average, in the US would be more like $3k. Add a view that's comparably stunning and you're at least doubling that. I live in Missouri and rent is below average here. There apartment in my city would be in the $2k-2.5k but no great view
That place is AWESOME ! Is there enough to do in that little town so you don’t get bored ? So 15-20 minute drive into town so you would need a car. We are retired and want a walkable city so we don’t need a car. We are kind of looking at Manizales. We are currently living in Nicaragua. But, wow…what a great apartment.

you don't really need heating/cooling in this area. The temperature is always perfectly comfortable with the windows open. Maybe a small space heater at night but thats about it.

The town is called El Retiro and it is sort of upscale area. So $700 for that apartment, I dont know. I have been myself looking for apartments, lots, etc, plan to retire there. I also recommend La Ceja and Rionegro/Llanogrande. Wish Cale will tell us the name of the comunidad (neighborhood).

I was born in Colombia and lived there until 22 and I have been living in the states for 26 years. I can easily compare both worlds because I know them very well. The cost of living works for those that earn in USD and Euros. That's not the reality for those that earn COP. The majority of people in Colombia earn between 2 million COP and 2.5 million COP and even less. That's around $600 USD and it could be less than that.
