Good video man. There's not enough out there about watering. You are actually one of the few who give people good advice. From my experience in growing I have learned the one device every grower should use is a soil moisture meter. It takes the guess game out of watering. I grow in 10 gallon grow bags on the west coast in the high country, 5500’ elevation. It’s often high 80’s so it’s warm. I grow in a greenhouse covered in 50% shade cloth. I water daily now that we’re in late flower 😎. Never had an over watering issue but definitely knew when they needed water in veg, they would wilt. I could watch them straighten up after getting some water. Then I knew when and how much, pretty much everyday out here in my dry climate zone. All my plants are super happy and healthy on our local well water.
Man I needed this TODAY...!! Im a month in on these autos and I already have flowers..! ive been doing LST and think after my last pull down I must have over watered because the girls looked so sad. Im on day 4 of no water and they are looking a lot better..! I cant lift the pots because of the scrog net so I have been doing the knuckle test. LOL..I lernt today..! Im gonna wait until the girls tell me they are thirsty before hitting them with the flower nutes and water...!! Thanks for all your info I have learned so much from watching your vids...!
Please buy a cheap moisture meter. It will help u so dang much. Literally saved my grow. 2 to 3 days I go now. Coco I'm realizing 2 times a day. First time with coco so I haven't a clue. Lil poppers at the moment jus beaching soil. 😂 I love this shit, really do. Therapeutic.
Cool temp are great for flowering plants. When lights. are off. I grow outdoors in New Jersey and the buds get the best smell and bigger trichomes in cool September nights
Watering and PH has always been a problem for me. Not anymore. Now I know if the leaf and stem droops its under watering and if its just the leaf drooping it's over watering. 😁
This is going to be off topic. I was watching one of your older vids about what lights you like and so forth. So i had an old (and cheap ) blurple light that I “thought” was good. You had raved about that BP 3000, so I bought one. (219 .00 on Amazon right now btw). GREAT F@*$&%@ LIGHT!!! Like the dam sun is in my tent. 2 days now and I am seeing soooooo much new growth! I cant wait to see how much of a difference this thing makes. Just wanted to throw some love your way for that recommendation.
Each time I try a new soil it messes with me. The drainage is different on each one. So I have started to stick with the same soil now that I have one I like. That way I can learn how much water it retains and can judge by the surface when I need to water (along with how the plants are doing)
i have always allowed my plants to tell me when to water them. i learned from early on that when i first started i was over watering. i allow the leaves to droop. and then i water. and since they are in the flowering stage and putting on weight. it is about every 2 days and im growing in pro mix, with fabric pots. i dont know who invented these pots but i love them. and i grow outside with the pots on the ground, and i found out once they are settled do not move them because it causes lots of stress. and i ph mine from 6.0 to 6.5. that seems to work best for me.
Thank you so much. Just the video a newbie like me needed. Got 4 seedlings in pure happy frog. (Newbie mistake) but next grow i got the soil recipe i need from 420 scene. They are looking great i try not to micromanage. I do write when they get watered and always in my mind do not over water. Thanks again bro for all your knowledge it really helps a newbie out like me.
@@MatheusOliveira-dx8lb Micromanaging is exactly what it sounds like. It’s when you spend every single hour of the day freaking out about your plants or if one leaf doesn’t look good and it’s something a lot of newer growers do.
@@stangcobra592 yep started my seeds in their 5 gallon pot of pure happy frog. But 420 scene got my back for my next run. going to follow his recipe for soil. I will also just start in solo cups of pure happy frog next run.
I just use a wooden skewer. Rounded at the tip. It helps me feel whether or not the soil is still moist underneath, and you can also see stuff on the wood when you pull it out.
Biggest thing I’ve noticed where I’ve caught myself and others overwatering is the leaves get super puffy, literally bulged between the veins. Cheers 🇨🇦
ive found out that when you have over watered your leaves get the claw and droop down , with that being said , if you look at your leaves and they are curled down and the leaf stem is starting to droop down with them then its pas time to water so if you learn to catch this the day before and then water you should be in good shape , this is what works well for me
Great advice and I have started watch my plants, from your past recommendations. Pot risers are the outside guard of my fans 😂. I water then later that day they are praying and 3 or 4 days later they look flat and I water again. I am using 1 gallon between 4 plants in veg and they are 3 1/2 weeks old. Great channel and the Instagram grows are awesome 🔥🔥🔥
I took your advice and started waiting for the girl to tell me what she wants lol. Iv had to be super vigilant cause of fungus gnats. They have been horrible this summer so I had to start bottom watering and a IV drip basically from the top so it's just 1 little spot that get wet on top. But I got them gone finally and they are happy except a few yellowing and dying leaves on the bottom. But I think it's just the plant pruning itself From thick coverage blocking the light
Thanks for the video! I’ve got two 4x4 tents that I’m trying to set up an automated watering system so I can actually go on vacation for a week or two. I’m still real low on the learning curve, but I think it’s working out
@@theemersonexperience7282 yeah, you’re not wrong ….and I live in a very rural setting where having a babysitter for my plants is rarely feasible, so this is my best option. I had to leave for ten days recently and all went well, although I’m still chasing ph a little.
I'm in 25 gallon fabric pots mixed Happy frog with Fox farm conditioner and strawberry fields on the bottom in a 5x5 bought a half a gallon to a gallon per day in veg now I'm in flower temps run between 74 when lights are off 83 when lights are on RH between 50 and 70%, they seem to doing great
I'm from CT so pretty close neighbors to both 420 and Billy. Here's to kickin it in the EAST! Whoop, whoop! Starting first grow oct. for medical, wish me luck. Love videos 420! Great work! Enjoy this channel immensely because you do your research!! 420 can you please talk about GROW GLASSES? Full spectrum I assume if using LED light. 5x5 tent, probably Marshydro FC6500 to learn and then will invest in better light as I go. Thanks so much to you and your subs, they're pretty awesome too!
My outside grow is done in 20 gal fiber pots. Each plant gets 2 gal of water slowly added over half hour so there is no run off. Two days with supplements added to the water one day straight water and one day no water. Repeat. I have never had a problem feeding this way. This is when the plant is flowering and bud formation. When the plants are younger and smaller, I do 1 gal instead of 2 each day
Whats up buddy. Great info. And biggest point u made .... don't leave any standing water in the growroom at all. I have my watering schedule down so I water at 6.2 ph and every 2 or 3 days . If I dont water on day 3 they droop so I know that and the pots are super light. I think When I do water II need to give them more. So let's say I havent killed my plants yet.😁🤪😆🤣🤣👌👍👊 lol love it
For anyone starting to grow I recommend starting in a peat germination pot it’ll reduce shock when transplanting because you don’t have to expose the roots they will consume the pot and grow out
@@420scene have you ever used kelp meal to feed your plants or do you know anything about it? And i know someone who has a male plant should they just grow it out and take the bud or scrap it?
Tic tac toe or grid method is the most effective for me . I water (preferably) twice a day but very light . Super thrive , G H bloom & micro no need for grow .armor si ,brown sugar once in a blue moon
Just be careful when you water like that but if you’ve been doing it for a while, and it’s been working for you they just keep doing what you’re doing but from my experience, I prefer to water heavy just not frequently.
I have central air and heat, so my temp stays at a precise 65-74, and it has significantly reduced the height of my plant. I also have a heater and a heat pad under the pot to try and generate into the upper 75s. Im on week 3, going on 4 and its still only lke 2 inches high but the leaves are going absolutely nuts.
This is true it gets in your head. I think cuz theres all been times weve turned our back and seedlings died. Weather its from our own fault or just nature. Ive popped two seeds and one is much smaller than the other. Its been driving me crazy thinking im doing something wrong. Theyr a bit streached but growing indoor outdoor casually i accepted they might be a bit lanky sometimes, and try to resolve it over time. Im gonna try to let the little ones soil dry out a little bit before i start to really panic. Shes not droopy and shes not off colored or anyrhing. Just small leaves and the true leaves are taking forever to produce compared to the other same age seedling thats thriving
I got some massive plants in my backyard all thanks to you, Cali Green, Mr Canucks & a few others. Just uploaded my first YT video. Let me know what you guys think🤔
the way i do it is if i start a new pot with dry or damp soil i will fill up the pot and then water in 5percent to 10 percent of the soil volume with a mist sprayer very slowly , hope it helps!
I use a moisture tester. I water at around 2 - 3 ppm on the meter. If you don't water until then has always worked well for me. Whenever it want's the water. But it is REALLY hard to tell without a good moisture tester.
I'm a newbie outdoor grower doing Purple Aliens strain photoperiod, I'm using good grow bags, I have 2- 7 gallon planters and 2- 15 gallon planters. The 15 gallon planters seem to need a little less watering than 7 gallon. I'm in bud stage now at 4 months. They will tell you when they need water I totally agree. I need to water at least once a day. If I don't water once a day my plants show it. I'm serious. If I miss one day the leaves will start to curl up and droop. 3 days without water, my plants will most definitely die. And I agree, fuck Amazon and Jeff Bezos.
I agree with rather having an under watered rather than an over watered plant for sure! And yeah I think I paid 1.50 -3.00 bucks us. For a plant elevator at the local shop
I know people usually hate these things. But those little garden probes that usually come with a "light", "ph", and water meter. The light and ph arent accurate or worth a damn. But the moisture probes work decent. If your a noob they can help to get an idea and reassure you when you need to water.
I’m doing one of my durbans kratky methods right now love hydroponic but never tried this style so I’m giving it a go doing good so far as expected I use it for my lettuce and watermelon even doing it with one of my gunnera manicata plants if you can grow a gunnera and bat flowers you can grow anything lol
I enjoyed a couple of your videos, then when you said support local businesses you got me!! I'm now subscribing to your channel thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and the commentors are cool too.
Great video ! Best advice I developed over time: don’t overdo it. My best runs have been the ones where I was waiting for actual signs of dryness. I wasn’t trying to prevent or fx something that wasn’t "broken" I think there is a learning curve with growing and it comes down to what you said in earlier videos: trust yourself. Back on topic: I use Gaïa green dry amendments in promix HP amended with more perlite and 25% wormcast. I would say between 25% to 40% of my watering is done from the top and I water mainly from the bottom. 5 or 7 gallon pot in a large saucer and I water as needed. I’ve noticed significant rise in root ball density as well as general plant’s health and resilience to training/shock/pest. I don’t really follow a schedule, when plants are dry, that generally when I make the choice, unless it’s tea time. I saw my wife (one of the crazies with hundreds of plants) doing this almost exclusively and decided to give it a try. Love your channel and your down to earth "everyone has it’s tricks" attitude.
Ive always left the run off water in my trays and its never hindered my yields. Ive heard of this happening to others but its not happen to me personally.

I wouldn't lift an autoflower as one knock to the pot and the plant can stunt a lot
For pot lifters I cut off the top part off of a pot noodle. 3x per plant.
Super minimal budget grow 😁
I never even thought of doing that. Thanks man
@@420scene no worries, after all you help us with everything.
If it saves a few £$ then people can put that money towards other things 😃
And you are Right again.i micromanaged my little seedlings to death but learned from it!THANKS420!
Learning to read my plants 🪴 has been harder the older they get. I learn something new from you all the time. Thanks for putting in the work.
You’re welcome Lloyd. I’m glad my videos have helped you out.
You and Mr Grow It... Thanks for all the valuable info!
You’re welcome man. Chris is a cool dude.
What is micromanaging? Sorry for the dumb question, it's genuine tho.
@@MatheusOliveira-dx8lb Micromanaging is exactly what it sounds like. It’s when you spend every single hour of the day freaking out about your plants or if one leaf doesn’t look good and it’s something a lot of newer growers do.
I’m glad my videos helped you out Chad.
@@420scene oh, got it. I had my 10 days of micromanaging, so hard not to do that lmao.
I've been following the 5% rule and it's been working well for me.
That’s what’s up
Biggest thing I’ve noticed where I’ve caught myself and others overwatering is the leaves get super puffy, literally bulged between the veins. Cheers 🇨🇦
That's truly awesome and the best advice especially for a new grower this definitely was a good show bro 👍 👌 🙌 hands down
Fun little tip for plant elevator. Wired cooling rack from Walmart. $2 bucks
That’s a great idea man
You’re videos are the best! And I’ve watched tons of videos by lots of different people! Thank you
ive found out that when you have over watered your leaves get the claw and droop down , with that being said , if you look at your leaves and they are curled down and the leaf stem is starting to droop down with them then its pas time to water so if you learn to catch this the day before and then water you should be in good shape , this is what works well for me
Great advice and I have started watch my plants, from your past recommendations.
Thank you for Dan the Automator throwback!
My mum had those 'eye' glasses for driving in the 90s😂
I took your advice and started waiting for the girl to tell me what she wants lol. Iv had to be super vigilant cause of fungus gnats. They have been horrible this summer so I had to start bottom watering and a IV drip basically from the top so it's just 1 little spot that get wet on top. But I got them gone finally and they are happy except a few yellowing and dying leaves on the bottom. But I think it's just the plant pruning itself From thick coverage blocking the light
Yeah, fungus gnats are definitely a problem. Hopefully you’re able to take care of that issue and good luck with your grow man.
Thanks for the video! I’ve got two 4x4 tents that I’m trying to set up an automated watering system so I can actually go on vacation for a week or two. I’m still real low on the learning curve, but I think it’s working out
Very bad idea. Do not leave your plants for a week or two unless you have someone you trust to watch them.....
@@theemersonexperience7282 yeah, you’re not wrong ….and I live in a very rural setting where having a babysitter for my plants is rarely feasible, so this is my best option. I had to leave for ten days recently and all went well, although I’m still chasing ph a little.
I'm in 25 gallon fabric pots mixed Happy frog with Fox farm conditioner and strawberry fields on the bottom in a 5x5 bought a half a gallon to a gallon per day in veg now I'm in flower temps run between 74 when lights are off 83 when lights are on RH between 50 and 70%, they seem to doing great
Love the channel bro the videos are really helpful and informative also I’m from good old pa nice to see others in this state doing their own
I’m from Jersey but totally man. We are pretty close, next state over.
When the plants are younger and smaller, I do 1 gal instead of 2 each day
Thanx for the info man i'm only growing one plant and really don't want to kill it so I've been watching all your vids
You have a very balanced approach. Good Job!
Thanks man!
So let's say I havent killed my plants yet.😁🤪😆🤣🤣👌👍👊 lol love it
For anyone starting to grow I recommend starting in a peat germination pot it’ll reduce shock when transplanting because you don’t have to expose the roots they will consume the pot and grow out
Or coconut husk starter pots. They don’t break as easy. 😎
You make the best videos i can’t lie and the PH you use Now In 2024 is 5.8 to 6.3
Always super informative thanks 420!
The hits just keep coming 🔥💡n I just cut 11/2 in pvc to size of whatever pot I’m using works great cheap n reusable ✌🏻
I got some massive plants in my backyard all thanks to you, Cali Green, Mr Canucks & a few others. Just uploaded my first YT video. Let me know what you guys think🤔
Thanks for all the info bro. It's always refreshing. ✌️
Always Kasey! 😎
Love the way you break it down. ✌
Nice refresher course. Always like your videos. Your da man😎👍
Helpful info as always. Thanks again
I gotchu man.
420 thanks for another great video. Enjoyed it when you were on CLTV the other day always learning. Have a great and safe Labor Day. Peace
the way i do it is if i start a new pot with dry or damp soil i will fill up the pot and then water in 5percent to 10 percent of the soil volume with a mist sprayer very slowly , hope it helps!
I use a moisture tester. I water at around 2 - 3 ppm on the meter. If you don't water until then has always worked well for me. Whenever it want's the water. But it is REALLY hard to tell without a good moisture tester.
I like the moisture meter :)
To me it seems like not only each individual strain takes water differently but also each individual plant 🌱
Local businesses are important to support over the big brands.
You the man ! Just gets better ..and better !!!! Lol on the side story's 🤣 gotta tell more ..
Great video !
Best advice I developed over time: don’t overdo it. My best runs have been the ones where I was waiting for actual signs of dryness. I wasn’t trying to prevent or fx something that wasn’t "broken"
I think there is a learning curve with growing and it comes down to what you said in earlier videos: trust yourself.
GM bro cool weather is looking good for my buds 🔥🌴
Heck yeah. It is really an awesome day today. No humidity really and it’s just a good day to be out
Awesone seeing you on CLTV the other day! I love all you guys
What’s up brother Boston Massachusetts here showing you some love and respect really love what you’re doing respect all the videos
OMFG I about fell in the floor laughing when you started talking about Dookie 💩🤣😂😆
Hahahahahaha.
Will be coming on Patreon soon...
Thanks, I think you have good input! Im struggling with water issues.
Your right 100 as always...a lot over think growing...keep it simple and have patience is the key...😁💨💨✌️
I put a two inch layer of perlite on the bottom of my pots to helps aerate the soil from the bottom up
Ive always left the run off water in my trays and its never hindered my yields. Ive heard of this happening to others but its not happen to me personally.
