The story is written to fit the game, you do know this is actual fotage from the game Mass Effect 3, in the game you are always presented with several choises due to which the story changes along with your gameplay, there are several endings to this game. And in mine and i dare to say many around the world who actually played Mass Effect series think this one of the greatest sci-fi games ever produced. This clip is obviously edited to show only the massive battle at the end of the game, why the story seems to be fragmented, you don't get the entire picture i recommend watching an actual gameplay of Mass Effect 3 here on youtube then you'll understand. Better yet watch from the beginning with the start of the series Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3 that will definitly give you a complete picture of the story as a whole.
