I have done a lot of river fishing in a canoe. To slow your drift and keep the canoe straight you need an anchor that will slow you down without stopping you. We used a plastic laundry detergent bottle filled with sand. The plastic allowed it to slip off of the rocks so it would not hang up very often. You could also use a big piece of chain.
I know I'm late with this, but, Congratulations, Dan! on your graduation, but more so on your commission! Thank you for your service! Enlisted Navy vet, here. Oh yeah, another great video to help me get through winter.
Wonderful to see you guys out on the water with the sulphurs, yes great way to celebrate Dan's graduation you can certainly cover the water in the Canoe funny enough that's what I have been doing going out in friends Canoe but we don't have the beautiful buttery trout on the river here in the uk sadly, still I can dream, Thanks for sharing look forward to your camping trip.
We sure do lol I'm going to start incorporating stuff into the end of videos as I did in this one and maybe make a blooper reel in the future. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Some nice fish here guys. Float fishing is HARD. You are right it is best to use an indy, or do dries/dry dropper. Nice to hop in and out too and nymph pockets that you wouldn't typically get to on foot. Gotta love it. Look forward to the next bug series. Hope the Slate Drakes treated you well!
Agreed! That was definitely the ticket from a canoe! You are absolutely right though, probably the best thing was being able to access places that we wouldn't typically wade. Thanks for watching, Mike!
Good job fellas. Good adventure day with some nice browns! Definitely doing this in a canoe is a different challenge than a drift boat. Two great young men that were open to the challenge. Would be great to hit a piece of water together this year. Tightlines!
It definitely provided some challenges but turned out to be a great day! Thanks for watching, Craig! Hopefully we can find some time in the near future to get together!
been doing the same thing on my local tailwater with my grandad's Old Town. Tough blowing through some of the nicer runs but so fun! I feel a raft in my future. Congrats Dan!
Agreed, it is so much fun and can really get you into places that aren't accessible via wading. Appreciate the words of congratulations! Thank you for watching as well!
Thingamabobber drop shot rig. Split shot on very bottom with flies between bobber and splitshot. Keeps you flies vertical and eliminates telescoping. Proper term might be Provo rig. This is how we fish nymphs drifting the SoHo in TN.
Awesome video man! Been awhile since I took out my canoes! Think I’m now convinced to give it a shot again! 😂💯. Great fish as well as Awesome scenery! Look forward to the next one, and tight lines as always! 👍🎣💦
Thanks Owen! It is definitely a fun way to cover some water and get a little change of pace from wade fishing. Give it a whirl! Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment!
Also, why the cut out plastic thing on his back? Finally, congrats Dan on the accomplishment. Very cool! Glad you got to take a class with George Daniel during your last semester. You went out with a BANG!
Technically it is a french onion dip container lol but we use it to examine nymphs when flipping rocks and seining. Works really well having the white background for contrast! We used it a lot this past weekend filming some slate drake nymphs. Going to be some cool footage!
@@BackyardBassin That's awesome. Makes perfect sense. May I ask what tool you use for seining? Curious about how other people do it. I have seen a variety of stuff and techniques. Thanks for any feedback!
Nice video guys, kinda makes me want to get a canoe. I actually took a canoeing course while at Penn State. The final exam was navigating Susquehanna, easy A.
a few quick questions - What are the name of those "pinch on" indicators you use? and, are they adjustable? Meaning, can you pinch them on, then decide when you get to a deeper pool to move them up the leader if needed? Or are they set in place permanently once you pinch them on? Thanks for any help! You guys are awesome!
I don't know if there is a specific name for the pinch-on indicators that we use since we buy adhesive craft foam from our local craft store and cut them all our manually. Saves a bit of money since you can only really use them once. The stuff we use is adjustable though, as in you can move them up and down the leader to adjust for depth. Another bonus is that they don't move while casting either. The one downside is taking them off your line - they are difficult to remove and sometimes leave the leader a bit sticky (although they stickiness goes away after time). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I grew up fly fishing with my family in the Kettle Creek area. I watched your Missoula video, heading out there in a week, can you give me some contacts for the Rock Creek campgrounds? The ones I am seeing online do not look great.
Hi Paul, thanks for reaching out! We camped in the Lolo National forest which has multiple camp sites as you drive up rick creek road. They're tent camping only and are pretty cheap. There are also some free sites along the road as well, but they do not have bathrooms or bear boxes. Hope this helps! Thanks for the support!
Natural preservation that is still maintained, it is very natural that there are still a lot of fish there. I love seeing it👍😁💪💪👏👏
the view from the canoe was a great way to take in all of the awesome scenery as well! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I realize it is kind of off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream new movies online ?
@Jonas Jefferson I watch on flixzone. Just search on google for it =)

I will keep that in mind! Thanks for the tip. The SoHo is on our list of places to fish. Love a good tailwater! Sounds like a great river.
Really good video guys! A lot of fun to watch!

Backyard Angling Anytime buddy! 👊
Sorry meant to say No smooth buttery trout water where I am in the uk East Anglia tends to be roach, rudd, perch, kind of muddy water.
Also, why the cut out plastic thing on his back? Finally, congrats Dan on the accomplishment. Very cool! Glad you got to take a class with George Daniel during your last semester. You went out with a BANG!
That's used to examine the bugs in the water.

Love your fishing videos! (and video editing) Enjoyed watching it. Just subbed!

Sounds like that would have been a fun course, Mike! Would have love to have taken that during my time at Penn State! Hope all is well with you.

Backyard Angling thanks so much
What nets are you guys using? Preferably the one seen when out of the boat fishing dries.
That is the Fishpond hand net. Bit of expensive but super light weight and durable. Absolutely love it!
Anyone know Whats the purpose with the cut butter bowl? Its Hanging beside the guys net?
Good question haha we use it for looking at nymph specimens. The white background makes for a good contrast
Congrats on college. What is your profession?
Thank you! I am an RN and just commissioned in the Army since I did ROTC while in school.
