My wife and I initially parked in the Sky Train parking lot for Sky Harbor, to pick up our grandsons. Another traveler told us that where we had stopped was only for waiting for those arriving on the Sky Train and we would be towed if we left the area. Saved!
Glad you could help the shell owner free up his parking spots for customers. You’re right it’s not fair to have his spots filled by hospital visitors parking there so they don’t have to pay for hospital parking! He should put up signs if they park there they’ll get towed if he hasn’t already! That might detour some people. Stay safe Johnny!
I have a disability and issues with my back and I have a handicapped placard. It makes me mad when people take advantage and steal the handicap spots from other people that really do need them. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there Johnny.
I've been disabled since 1993 but I also worked as a parking enforcement officer and I know the city county and state have authority over these spaces and if you have a disabled parking spot then law enforcement needs to come and cite it before it can be towed, at least in the state I live in.
People just don't care. My office is in with 10 other suites. We have handicapped parking spaces directly in front of my office. People will literally have 40 spots to choose from, but will park in those handicapped spots. I call the police immediately. I don't have time for these cheaters.
Talk to your local lawmakers. Currently a completely abled person can park in a handicap spot if they are driving with a placard and nothing can be done. These laws need to be changed.
I don't have any physical disability and it makes me mad when I see someone with no placard (and able-bodied as well) parked in these spaces. People are so damned lazy these days. They'd rather punish the disabled than have to walk an extra 50 feet.
It annoys me that some people claim to be handicapped and can walk just fine. 9/10s of the time I see people with a handicap sticker the waltz right out of their car and I'm like how are you handicapped? I don't see and grimace of pain on their faces either. They take spots from people who really need them, like someone who had both legs blown off in a war or someone who was born unable to walk. I think they are giving the status out too easily.
Expensive lesson that family got, they should have paid at the hospital. Like you said Johnny, entitled guy with the blue car hope the gas station got him towed too.
As a person who has recently become handicapped and had to get the plate, I applaud your work sir! I never realized how many people park in the handicapped spots who are not entitled.
@bellinghamfpv Honestly, there are many "unseen" disabilities. For example, some days I walk fine, but can only do so for a limited time. From the outside, it looks like I am not disabled, but in reality, I am. I can walk "normally" for about 10 minutes at a time. Enough time to walk into the store and get one of the electric rider thingies. Oter days, it hurts to even press the gas pedal of my car.
@bellinghamfpvYou cannot tell who is handicapped just by looking. A person may have severe asthma, COPD or a heart condition that is not "visible" to you. Just because a person isn't limping or using a walker doesn't mean they aren't handicapped. That said, I've seen young people in their late teens park in a handicapped spot, jump out of a car and literally jog/run to class on high school or college campuses. They were obviously using someone else's handicap hang tag. People have NO scruples anymore.
@bellinghamfpv You are sadly mistaken. People with severe asthma, COPD or heart conditions with low ejection fractions do not "benefit" from walking extra distances. What is wrong with you? With your logic, your mother with a walker I guess would benefit from walking extra distances to strengthen her legs (if she has arthritis, hip or back problems). Doesn't that sound stupid?
I can look fine some days and I'm only 42. Somedays I use a cane or wheelchair. I have Systemic Lupus and MS. I have kidney failure, heart damage, blood clots and severe joint damage. Lupus makes it hard to walk and MS makes it impossible some days. If I walk too much or too far or on bad days my legs will give out and I can't make it back to car. So sometimes its only distance that affects me. I only use handicap tag on bad days. Just rem not every disability is visible. There are thousands of autoimmune diseases that affect millions of young adults. Most autoimmune diseases start in your 20s. Others have severe back problems and walking is very painful. Or some have severe muscle weakness. Some have cystic fibrosis and can't breathe.

I have a special needs child who needed many surgeries and the hospital pay parking was $30/day. I’m a single parent who had to take time from work to be with my child at the hospital and found it difficult to pay that expense every day so I parked at the local church. The parking lot is empty except for Sundays. I left a note on the windshield stating the reason why I was parked, yet my car was towed anyway. This cost me a lot of money I didn’t have.
