@Irrelevant Cheesecake If the amount of images of Light in Christ poses in stained glass in the anime didn’t hit it over the head good enough, this’ll do the trick
The transformation of Light into Kira is more believable than the anime version! It takes him a total of ten seconds to go from "It's terrible thinking about it" to "I am the new God of this world!" Still love the anime don't get me wrong!
The Japanese TV drama version of Light into Kira is also much more believable; Light actually throws the Death Note in the trash, unable to justify becoming a murderer. He only rushes to fetch it out when Soichiro is taken hostage and facing death, and even then he agonizes over whether it's the right thing to do. (Yeah...the Japanese TV drama changed a lot from the manga, but it was still great XD)
I mean, to me that only shows that he was kind of a sociopath from the very start and the note just gave him the chance to let it out, but yeah, this way is interesting as well.
@Funky parchment4 Spoiler alert, although I don't think anyone who listens to this didn't seen the show: It is a weak, that is left offscrean. But also, we get the prspective of Light before Death Note when he loses memories of it. He becomes kinda sweet person, caring about others well-being and honesty. He is very reserved about feeding Misa's hopes just for the case (he gives up forced by L) and reacts quite agressively to the idea of checking which people die to get a proof instead of just catching criminals. But, he also notes to himself that "previous Kira" (important to note, death note is in someone's elses hands for this moment in time) was actually following the idea of justice that Light had, which kinda terrifies him, because it shows that Light even without Death Note actually can think like Kira. So it all comes down to this: Light's sense of justice didn't change by Death Note, but it shifted his idea of "ends justifie the means". Basically, Light already wanted the world in Kira's order, using Death Note made him just accept the means that he has to go thru to bring this world.
TBH, what I find interesting about Light is that while he's very much a 'good' person before getting the Death Note, it was also very obvious that he was *always* eventually going to find himself in a position of power and privilege, let it get to his head, come to believe that he is special and *deserves* it inherently because of his lucky circumstances at birth, and abuse it in a self-righteous way he likely would never be punished for because of Japanese social norms that strongly encourage authority figures to do just that. It's just that, rather than experiencing that over the course of a decade of success, he was suddenly given supernatural power over life and death as a teenager and did the exact same thing. He was *never* a sincerely good human being who just wanted to help people for good reasons.
jkrfan7 Another good thing about Mr Jordan playing Light in the Broadway version: The other songs that were left out sound amazing, and I can’t wait for who was literally the leader of the Newsies to play him! (He played Jack in Newsies, by the way)
@Sarah Hamilfan i think that those in the Audience are Spose to be the Shimigami watching the play...aka the Human world for entertament. sure some may be more invested in others, but in the end it just a play
The comedy aspect is knowing that Light's decent into an insane God complex happened within like, one afternoon and he took the dive enthusiastically and with potato chips in hand
This remains one of the most powerful songs in the whole musical for me. It really embodies the feeling of finding that you are capable of changing the world with a flick of a pen.
Notice whenever a musical mentions a hurricane something bad always happens. Ex: Hamilton in the Reynolds pamphlet and Light deciding to kill people with his Death Note.

This song actually kinda inspired me to sing and I just signed up in a school singing competition of this song (due to the fact I have been singing it and memories the lyrics in my head, also worth a shot to test myself)
Anyone else hate it when adaptations kill off Light’s mum in the mistaken belief it explains his behaviour? Light has his twisted, childish worldview precisely *because* he’s never lost anyone close to him. The Wammy kids are all orphans so they understand the permanency of death and the evil of what Kira is doing. Light only understands once Soichiro dies - but by that point he’s in too deep.
There is something really lonely about this song. Light truly feels all alone with no one who understands or that he can rely upon. "Could this be the hour" is him finally finding a purpose in his life - something that he can care about without needing to pretend or compromise with (as in, he finally doesn't have to accept "that's just the way things go and you can't change it no matter how you want to") like he's always had to do before.
Light hasn't the talent L has. Light is hard working, giving up love affairs or social life to live up to his fathers imagine and battle injustice. Light is a student but he is aiming for the top but realizes there are hurdles on the way ( corruption and system fails). The book sets him free. The rain and wind simbolizes the struggle to get good grades and not being tempted to go to parties and such.
I can just imagine how great a movie featuring these actors would be. And if Laika animated it with Tim Burton directing. Damn that would be brilliant.

He's finally, truly, the god of the new world. He begins singing a Hurricane reprise, Ryuk standing behind him with his back turned, like a shadow or a mirror. Then, just as he finishes the final note, Light flinches as the music cuts to dead silence. He starts to shake. His face twists into confused horror. He collapses, clutching his chest and unable to voice his confusion or panic. Ryuk turns to face the audience with the open Death Note in his hands. Gives new meaning to Ryuk's line, "Back to: day after day, it's the same thing, over and over."[...] Write, wait, write, wait, write, wait, write... I'm fed up with it." By repeating the song Light sang when he first used the Death Note, they really are back to square one.
Why do I feel this shows how Light use to be but also slowly turning him into Kira and who he became in the ending of the anime and musical. I really do think the anime and musical shows how the court system is unfixable and how a lot of power can lead to you losing yourself.

This song sounds exactly, and I mean EXACTLY, like a contemporary pop song, maybe a few years old. Specifically the vocal melody in the verses. Does anyone know which song I'm talking about??
I wish I had good video editing skills because this song is SCREAMING to be an Eren Yeager fan video. "I am the God of a brave new world, much better than the last" and "the earth will shake, the sky will scream" I MEAN COME ON, IT NEEDS TO EXIST. Weird how the only two anime I've ever watched are Death Note and AoT and this song fits both main characters. Realizing now I may have a "type" of anime that I'm attracted to, lol.
@@clarelabellerose I don't wanna write an essay or anything but with the Japanese versions, Kakizawa constantly goes off key every 30 seconds. This is made worse by his terrible breathing technique, making him sound out of breath and gasping on every sentence. For Kenji, he can actually sing and doesn't scream to hit the notes like Kakizawa does, but he has a very limited range, including a very nasally upper register and tends to go sharp at the end of high notes, producing a sour off-pitch sound (especially in the 2017 run). Actingwise, their portrayals of Light are just very one note. Kakizawa has the same slightly bewildered, wide-eyed look in every scene he is in (actually, he looks like this in every other role I've seen him in too). He looks the same when he is supposed to be passionately debating his class in "Where is the Justice" as during "Hurricane" when he's supposed to be estatic and excited about being a god. Just... slightly confounded, and that's it. Kenji is just a psychopath throughout, there is utterly no depth to his portrayal. His Light spits furiously, shakes his head and hams out in every scene. Even during the tennis scene when he's supposed to be acting innocent and convincing L he's not Kira, he actually shouts at L and glares at him angrily throughout. Honestly, if his Light was real, he would have been suspected and caught in no time with the way he behaves. Now with Jordan, I can't comment on his acting as there's no real production, but his vocals are spot on and perfect. He hits every note effortlessly without ever once being sharp, off-pitch, off-key or going out of breath. And I am basing this off the bootleg of him singing this live and not just on the studio demo. The last version is the Korean one with Kwangho, which I think is my favourite version all things considered. Vocally, his rendition is a masterpiece. As he has a naturally lower range than Jordan, he uses it to great effect by singing the parts in the song where he expresses doubt about killing (as Light) in head voice, and by singing the parts about using the death note and becoming a god (as Kira) in the baritone range. This helps to highlight the depth of Light's character and his emotional conflict (he isn't JUST a psychopathic killer), giving more depth to the character. Actingwise, he's also brilliant. His portrayal of Light is multifaceted and clearly has a lot of thought put into it. In this song, he runs through the entire gamut of beaming enthusiastically about his ambitions to scowling angrily at the criminals he wants to execute to shutting his eyes tightly trying to convince himself that the guilt of committing murder is worth it to build his ideal world. In contrast, watching the Japanese versions, each actor had only one single type of expression in the entire scene. I've seen someone else give this other example and I'll use it here. During Hurricane Reprise, after killing an actual innocent person to further his goals for the first time, the Japanese Lights just ham out and laugh maniacally like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. Kwangho, on the other hand, clutches his chest and almost collapses at first, showing how crossing this line has greatly emotionally affected him. After this, he looks up stares ahead at the stage lights shining on his (which signifies the bright future he wants to construct). Only then, does he start smiling about his deed, showing how he's crossed the moral line for good. Kwangho took this one note moment in the Japanese version and turned it into an emotional centrepiece in Light's development as a character. And this difference in character depth is seen throughout the rest of the musical, such as his loving relationship with Sayu (where in the Japanese version, the only emotion Light seems to show Sayu is discomfort) and his interactions with Ryuk. And Kwangho didn't have the benefits of a W and a Y cast to alternate the role with like the Japanese casts did. I've seen a bootleg with Jisang, and he was surprisingly not bad, but I haven't formed all my thoughts on him yet.
If we do this musical at my school I will fangirl so much that I will die. And I will be Light because I’m like the biggest Death Note fan in my school and I don’t care if the play coordinators say I can’t cuz I’m a girl. Yeah at my school let’s say that they’re doing a play where 2 characters, a boy and a girl, are in a romantic relationship. Well because of this, they only will let boys try out for the boy character and only girls try out for the girl character.
Am I the only one that doesn’t like the hurricane analogy? I just think it doesn’t necessarily relate to Light as a character. Like all the lyrics ASIDE from the chorus’ are great.
I see where you're coming from. But the hurricane analogy, to me, sounds like a nod to the story of Noah and his Ark. You probably know this, but in Abrahamic religions, there was a prophet named Noah who was sent to a horrible group of people. He warned that God would send a flood to wipe everyone out if they did not repent and board the ark he had built. Very few people believed him; there were only a handful of people on the ark and all the sinners drowned in a vicious storm. I think Light's hurricane analogy is a play on this. He literally thinks of himself as a god, and Kira is his Noah; someone to warn the people of the retribution that God will give them.
"Writing is the gun i only have to aim" then remember soichiro tells him that you shouldnt close your eyes and shoot a gun randomly two colliding ideals here.
If you're asking Near to upload the video of the full show, then no. WOWOW will remove it. That's what happened to me and the other person who had the full show on UA-cam.
It's real! They just had a London concert performance in fall 2023 that was so popular it got an extension, and the partial album will be released soon.
Aspie Near The lyrics from Hurricane can still fits when he's shocked that Rem would agree to kill L for him. In the anime, after Rem agreed,Light could'nt believe his eyes. This is why it fits that scene better in my opinion.
excuse me while i scream with pride of this fandom for making a whole ass musical out of an anime. Spoiler alert, although I don't think anyone who listens to this didn't seen the show:
It is a weak, that is left offscrean. But also, we get the prspective of Light before Death Note when he loses memories of it. This song sounds exactly, and I mean EXACTLY, like a contemporary pop song, maybe a few years old. Specifically the vocal melody in the verses. Does anyone know which song I'm talking about??
i don't know, that's what i'm trying to figure out! i recognize it but i can't place it.
I want to find it...just here for the replies
this is the only withe washing we stan
I wish I had good video editing skills because this song is SCREAMING to be an Eren Yeager fan video. "I am the God of a brave new world, much better than the last" and "the earth will shake, the sky will scream" I MEAN COME ON, IT NEEDS TO EXIST. Weird how the only two anime I've ever watched are Death Note and AoT and this song fits both main characters. Realizing now I may have a "type" of anime that I'm attracted to, lol.
Jeremy Jordan's voice is glorious! It's so surprising that the Japanese version is the worst out of all three productions...
@@clarelabellerose Thanks. I do like discussing about this musical, especially since it's kinda underrated.
Ok but I had no idea Jeremy Jordan was the one who played him??????D?S?D?ASD?SAF/? ? wtf?
He was just in the demo I think he never actually played him? I'm not sure...
Anybody else really just wanting to do the play themselves since Broadway is taking their sweet time?
Yes
My account was terminated for my Death Note videos. These are the videos to watch now for we who love this musical.
You're the second person who's mentioned it, they're really cracking down, aren't they
@LyricNear I guess so. Even after 6 years. The channel that flagged me was from Japan. And it was QUICK. Less than 12 hours, all gone.
@@DraculaHyde_2 Did you have the Japanese versions up too? Or just the English demo
@@LyricNear Just the English demo, that's what was so strange about the whole thing. I didn't have anything in Japanese
I was wondering what happened, that sucks :/
HURRICANE! I think the hurricane *died* out
Powerful and Terrifying
How did you find these songs? I have only found the 8 before this!
Very good song
I'm listing to this while waiting for Hurricane Dorian to come by
If we do this musical at my school I will fangirl so much that I will die.
Bullcrap, If you want to be Light, BE LIGHT! No one's stopping you and only you can stop them
This is a lot like the Korean version
If I had the death note I’d probably just use it to get rich and then just spend the rest of my days playing games and eating food and drinking water
me when i first saw the water come from my fingertips in the shower
oof. just by listening what this is sayin, I already know what happened....
The fact that Lucifer is singing this 😂😂😂
Why does this give "The Wizard and I" vibes from Wicked
God of the new world
I don't understand... If this is not from a musical, then where is it from??
Pit ღ It is from a musical. Death Note the Musical.
They were translated to korean and japanese and turned into musicals over there
"Writing is the gun i only have to aim" then remember soichiro tells him that you shouldnt close your eyes and shoot a gun randomly two colliding ideals here.
This musical made me a light Yagami supporter 🤘🤘🤘🤘
can you upload the full japan version pelase
If you're asking Near to upload the video of the full show, then no. WOWOW will remove it. That's what happened to me and the other person who had the full show on UA-cam.
Theodore Francis Allen I can understand which is rather unfortunate
Is there a recording of this anywhere????
Cat Lover Levi T.F.Allen has a video recording of it. Look around in the comments you'll find him sharing a link.
Thank you soo much!! Are you going to upload the way things are? 😃
Marta Carvalho Unfortunately, an English track of it doesn't exist 😕
Aspie Near oh 😥 thank you anyway!
Aaron Tveit would make a good Light
This is an amazing song
But the metephor was dragged to much
It makes one think there really was a hurricane but only to find a metaphor

seriously wish this was real 😭 but after the 2017 movie flop... idk... if anyone has any updates abt it please lmk
It's real! They just had a London concert performance in fall 2023 that was so popular it got an extension, and the partial album will be released soon.
@@LyricNear NO WAY!!! HYPE
@@ThirdyMeowy There's lots of bootlegs of the london concert up if you search around a little!
This is when Light manipulates Rem.
Actually it's when he first discovers the note. There isn't a song for when he's manipulating Rem but it's sometime around When Love Comes.
Aspie Near The lyrics from Hurricane can still fits when he's shocked that Rem would agree to kill L for him. In the anime, after Rem agreed,Light could'nt believe his eyes. This is why it fits that scene better in my opinion.
Wait THIS IS A REAL THING OH MY GOD MY MUSICAL THEATRE WEEB ASS IS SH O O K
excuse me while i scream with pride of this fandom for making a whole ass musical out of an anime.
