And with the Wii Shop Channel no longer being a thing, they can pretty much do whatever they want with them. Even though I doubt they will. Also, if you count “traditional” Castlevania games as the 2D search-action ones, then technically Lords of Shadow; Mirror of Fates was the last one. What this video makes me realize is simply how much harder it is to preserve games. Unlike with a film, show or book that can be preserved as a simple video or text file, a game is a whole different story. You need the console and some work in recoding to preserve. Especially true with numerous iPhone games I loved as a kid.
I'm a little surprised Driver San Francisco didn't appear in either video on the topic with how mysterious I've found it to be, I've even noticed that some major UA-camrs have taken down their entire playthroughs of it that I very distinctly remember watching
The other day I discovered that Bob's Game (the meta-puzzle version, not the demo of the RPG) had been taken down off of every known platform and the even github was deleted. So unless someone has a backup of the source, it's gone for good. Even the UA-cam channel has been reduced to one video (I hesitate to point this out in case he meant to remove it and just overlooked it). This sucks because even though it wasn't the crazy revolutionary RPG he originally wanted to make, it was still a pretty good single and multiplayer falling blocks game with a ridiculously good editor. Better than Tetris 99, even. If you have a game in your Steam library that's called "ok", that's where Bob's Game was before he deleted it.
Literally yesterday I was in a GAME store and they were selling copies of Battleborn for 50p, despite them literally doing nothing at this point. Novelty drinks coaster, perhaps?
So another entire franchise I'd like to throw up here is: The Transformers games published by activision, specifically Transformers: Devastation. Activision lost the license to the transformers games, and because of that their popular War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, and Rise of the Dark Spark games got pulled from digital stores for a few years. When Transformers: Devastation was released, they renewed the license and all of those games, including devastation, went back up for sale on digital platforms...For about a year, when they all got pulled from digital storefronts AGAIN, INCLUDING THEIR BRAND NEW DEVASTATION GAME. As of today, you still can't buy the games digitally unless you get a key from a reseller or something.
I think what hurts even more of No. 1 is that it’s basically the last time we’ll even play as Conker ever again. Chris Seavor did mention that a sequel to Conker’s Bad Fur Day will never happen again due to that times have changed and if a sequel is made at this time, it wouldn’t fly at all and people would be butthurt or offended to play it. And it hurts even more with that atrocity that is Young Conker…
There actually are a few unplayable Katamari games now. I have one still downloaded on my phone called I ❤️ Katamari that I can't play because they haven't updated it in decades. There's also Amazing Katamari, but as far as I can remember, it was an endless runner thing
I'm happy you showed Marble Blast Ultra! I first played it on an Xbox 360 demo disk (the one that came bundled with Sonic tennis), but I was sad to find out it was removed off of XBLA. Thankfully, at some point the entire game was released on Gamejolt at one point, and while I think that's been removed too, you can always find a zip file of MBU if you look long enough. (Or just ask me and I'll try to give you my copy!)
Oh, you mean like how they shut down the labor of love that was AM2R? That was the remake Metroid II: Return of Samus deserved. Granted, Nintendo made Samus Returns, but it's like half-assed attempt at remaking Metroid II. AM2R was the remake everyone wanted.
To be fair, Konami have effectively tied a noose around their own neck at this point. There's only so much blame we can pile onto them before it gets boring.
@@FatherTime89 Why wouldn't they shut down a server of a 10 year old console? Keeping the servers running would be costlier than it is worth it. And no, simply because they have the money isn't a good reason, because they would constantly lose money by keeping the servers up so they would have to make the money for this servers in some way, shape or form, ergo, making all their other services costlier than it already are.

BLUR was a game I truly loved and enjoyed sadly it was in an odd year for playstation and can only be played through mods and old game copys its extremely rare and each day that passes makes the game harder and harder to play.
I wish to add a game to the list, Darkspore. The game was from the age of Absurd EA DRM and you could only install it once per disk, however that isn't the reason I am putting this game forward. It was also an online only game with no capability to RUN without linking to the servers. Even if you have a valid install it won't work since they took the servers down. Thankfully there are people working to make the game playable again, but Darkspore remains a game I am pissed about for how much I enjoyed it only for it to become unplayable for me in two different ways. First I had to go through EA customer support when my install broke to fix it since you couldn't just reinstall it, and man wasn't that a fucking laugh, they were condescending and blamed me for the game's failure, and it took me giving them the code for the disk, the place I purchased the disk and providing proof of purchase before they would give me a new one time use code to fix my install, only for the servers to be taken down not two months later. As bad as some of the games here are in terms of being unplayable, at least they were given a dignified demise, not just having the rug pulled out from under them. To explain the game has all the data needed to run solo without the servers except for specific packages created by the server to tell the game how to take its data and construct the levels. In other words with a simple patch the game could have been made playable beyond the end of the servers and instead they killed it outright. Those people trying to make the game playable have had to figure out how to spoof the server call and try to figure out how to construct the packages it needs. The fact they even got an empty map parcel to load is a miracle, and if they succeed in making the game playable again I would willingly pay the amount I payed for the game again to them in thanks if I could. TLDR: FUCK EA! Darkspore was awesome.
Nintendo: Every console after the Wii will be able to use its controller, and even the Gamecube controller. Developers: Cool, so the consoles will carry over our digital games without us needing to develop them again and again? Nintendo: lol no
Please mention The Orignal Sims and The Sims 2 EA ran a thing a few years ago where you could get all The Sims games but since then you can not buy The OG Sims or The Sims 2 anywhere legally outside of some shady Ebay listings
Reminder that Super Mario 35 itself got a fan browser game of simular concept from infernoplus cease and desisted just to be time limited itself. Thanks Nintendo.
I HONESTLY DIDN'T KNOW THAT MARIO 35 WAS DEAD. Good thing I still downloaded it when I had the chance and redownloaded now, BUT DAMN. I didn't think that this would hit harder THAN A SOLID TITANIUM SEMI TRAILER TRUCK WITH AN ANTIMATTER-POWERED ENGINE CARRYING 100 TONS OF LEAD. Man, do I feel bad for anyone who didn't get this game. I really do.
There are still physical copies of Project Spark though, and the game will still update with all the content and Conker's Big Reunion. So for as long as disc versions exist, you can still play the game, and as long as the Xbox One servers are up, you can still play Conker's Big Reunion.
Another mention for me is Evolve. It's not a great game, as it is held back by some of the design choices and how some of its best features are locked behind a paywall, but it is a solid multiplayer shooter where you have to try to solve problems and fight monsters. It's a lot like Left 4 Dead, which makes sense with both games made by the same developer. What's unique from Left 4 Dead is the fact that one of the players take the role of the boss monster who needs to level up while dealing bits of damage to the hunting team. It's actually heartbreaking to see it fall with such promise. What the hell 2K? Why did you have to overmonetize it and cause a lot of its playerbase to stop playing it? Not to say Turtle Rock isn't partially to blame for it. After all, another reason for its failure was the fact that one of the monsters could become ten times as fast and clone itself. Regardless, so much of its playerbase left, it became free to play before eventually shutting down its servers. At least we can still play as a monster in Dead by Daylight. Sure, some of its own best content was also monetized, but it was loads more replayable and is ironically still evolving itself. Maybe Evolve could have remained popular if it let you play as a xenomorph...
I’ve vaguely remember there was some weird deal where they were planning to release an “official” Conker game through the Spark game and they put out some teaser but it was super short and limited by what the Spark game could do
I have to correct you slightly on Minecraft: Story Mode. While the normal physical edition of the game only contains episode one, this only applies to the console versions of the game. You can still play the game on PC and can still download all the episodes since the episodes are stored on Steam's servers, and not Telltale's servers. (At least for the Steam version of the game. Unsure how it is with GOG. Speaking from experience since I did get the game on PC even after its delisting.) The only way to get the game digitally on PC now is by buying a redeemable code. As for how to play all the episodes on consoles, the "The Complete Adventure"-Edition of the game (season one specifically) has all episodes pre-loaded on the disc itself. As for season 2, you can still play all the episodes of that game if you specifically buy the Nintendo Switch version of the game, since that version came out after the season was complete. Hence, all the episodes are pre-loaded on the cartridge, like the "The Complete Adventure"-Edition of season one.
Can we get an F in chat for Transformers WFC and FOC? Neither were made backwards compatible on Xbox/PS and when High Moon shut down the servers, so too were they removed from any digital stores.
Project Spark's Delisting was a huge spirit crusher for me. Sure, I can still make projects and practice coding and the like, but I can't share anything with anyone anymore...
So here is a very obscure game that I miss. It is called Great Whale Road. It is... The best way to explain it is that it is a Viking themed city manager with some combat and hand drawn art. It was discontinued as the developers kicked the bucket. Why I remember it is because I almost got a job at that studio. Or rather I reached out to them, had a phone interview, and then I heard they were closing down.
I'm worried for stuff like iRacing or LoL, games that have been super important to the rise of Esports in their genre but are almost entirely an online service.
Sure, let's make a *temporary* digital video game to celebrate our IP's anniversary for *45 dollars.* _Who in the fuck does that??_ It's such a literal waste.
I guess Microsoft doing something right in the video game market is rather... Rare! Also, why would Nintendo make Mario's 35 anniversary title a temporary one? Even Sonic Team got that one right! You can still play 06!
Mario 35 was such a fun concept, and an interesting take on the "battle royale". That they decided to remove it so soon afterward is such a shame. Yeah, they wanted to create their own little Unus Annus moment, where "you had to be there, man" and all that, but if it is a good concept, and people loved it, and people miss it now that it is gone...... why get rid of it? Make it a permanent feature, and just increase the player pool by +1 every anniversary. I'd still play it if it was called "Mario 37" or whatever.
I wouldn't blame digital bits all that much; there's a huge list of lost movies, in several cases where people just didn't worry until they opened the only known copy to the smell of vinegar. A decent chunk of early TV was never recorded or the tapes abandoned or destroyed. I'd worry about games on physical media as well; old disks are often unreadable, and even cartridges are often dying.
And over here in the other corner is Dungeons and Dragons online, still getting updates and still getting expansions. Honestly play it over the latest games that are out... you won't be disappointed by the Dungeons having actual puzzles! I still play Tell Tales monkey Island game....they can't take that off me!
13:09 I’ll tell you what they’d do, because they’ve done it before. They get them removed. There have a lot of Pokemon fan games that have been removed by Nintendo.
The worst thing to me about those Konomi games on Wiiware is that they had a good opportunity when they put out those colections a few years ago to get these games back out there as a final add on. I just hope that since they seem to like these collections that maybe a Rebirth collection might be in the cards.
I'm expecting to see Evolve, since you can only get it on disc now. Just missed the premiere :0 Also, that WiiWare water game was so good and I'm sad I can't finish it 😭
Contra ReBirth was the best Contra game I ever played, honestly. I thought it was amazing fun with two players. I still have it kicking around on an old Wii somewhere.
I remember playing My life as a king and My life as a Demonlord many years ago and having had a fun time with them, makes me sad that I might not be able to play them anymore :(
Doug Bowser: "We wanted to celebrate Mario's 35th Anniversary in NEW & EXCITING ways, and keeping Super Mario Bros. 35 online forever would devalue that." Me: DEEEEEFINITELY former EA: the man speaks their samey bullshit corporate lingo. That is LITERALLY the excuse an EA rep WOULD give! >.>
Earlier this year Bangai 0: Missile Fury got pulled from XBLA with absolutely no warning and even Delisted Games didn't seem to notice and as far as I'm aware still hasn't, this was a massive kick in the crotch to me because I had just set aside some money to finally get it myself and complete my Xbox 360 Shmup collection, only to find out the hard way that the game was delisted almost exactly a month earlier with zero fanfare or advanced warning of any kind!
It's sad there are a lot of games that are now becoming defunct, even single-player games solely because you need an internet connection to play them. Someone needs to start preserving those games before it's too late because it is history we will inevitably loose if we don't. Great video though!
Game developers wouldn't *dare* to announce to the public that they wanted to make or save money , so they just vaguely say that it's to celebrate an occasion, like Nintendo did.

Unlike with a film, show or book that can be preserved as a simple video or text file, a game is a whole different story. You need the console and some work in recoding to preserve. Especially true with numerous iPhone games I loved as a kid.
I was actually just thinking about Conker and project spark the other day that's one heck of a coincidence.
I'm a little surprised Driver San Francisco didn't appear in either video on the topic with how mysterious I've found it to be, I've even noticed that some major UA-camrs have taken down their entire playthroughs of it that I very distinctly remember watching
Ever heard of our lord's and saviours the pirates, much love for game conservation
It's a game for collectors to put on the shelf, I guess.
Straight up, I didn’t even know that Project Spark ever released
Can't play anymore
Emulation users: hold my beer
Top 5 games with good voice acting, Top 5 Ice levels, Top ten Symphetic Villains, Top 5 Worse Launches for consoles and Top 5 Crushes in video games
Blaming Nintendo for other publishers/developers not migrating games off the wiiware store doesn’t really seem fair. That’s up to Konami.
To be fair, Konami have effectively tied a noose around their own neck at this point. There's only so much blame we can pile onto them before it gets boring.
We can blame Nintendo for shutting down the server. That was their decision.
Yeah, that was a weird justification. It's totally konami's fault.
As usual.
@@toumabyakuya and don’t forget they gave people like a 6 month warning before they did it.
Unavailable games are bad and all, but unavailable anime is true suffering… I miss you Shiki…
man, the monsters under rabbid's bed must be having a grand time
Me: "Yeah, I remember it wasn't long ago since he made the previous video. Must have happened a lot to make a sequel already"
Rabbidluigi: "It's been 3 years ago since my last video on this subject matter"
Me...."Come again?"
Why does time fly so fast O.O
Good thing that we have ways to play some of those with Dolphin for #4 :)
BLUR was a game I truly loved and enjoyed sadly it was in an odd year for playstation and can only be played through mods and old game copys its extremely rare and each day that passes makes the game harder and harder to play.
Walking Dead The Videogame Season 1 was awesome! Last episode made me cry though. Right in the feels
Emulators are the heroes we need in this world.
Nintendo: lol no
I miss one particular WiiWare game, Art Style Light Trax. The highway theme "Mikado" was absolutely excellent but the game itself was neat as hell
Please mention The Orignal Sims and The Sims 2 EA ran a thing a few years ago where you could get all The Sims games but since then you can not buy The OG Sims or The Sims 2 anywhere legally outside of some shady Ebay listings
I still remember when Jontron used to be a gaming UA-camr and did that iconic reaction video to the Conker reveal for Project Spark.
*Keeps sponsorship starts*
Shido: You have my attention.
How about top 5 dead games that ended on a cliffhanger that deserves a proper ending
Super Mario Bros. 35 was so much fun. It getting delisted is a tragedy
There are still physical copies of Project Spark though, and the game will still update with all the content and Conker's Big Reunion. So for as long as disc versions exist, you can still play the game, and as long as the Xbox One servers are up, you can still play Conker's Big Reunion.
I wonder if he's going to mention the original Angry Birds.
*sees Conker in the thumbnail*
Look how they massacred my boy.
I remember Tap my Katamari being a thing and I made a lot of progress and poof the game disappeared.
Should've expected that of a mobile game.
That intro bit was fucking glorious.
i know that opening was just an act but watching you put animal crossing in the trash physically pained me
I play Conker's bad fur day :live and reloaded at least once a year for great multiplier
Multiplayer.*
That Persona 5 song during the commercial
Bet E.T is gonna be here. Conker guess it's the demo
Bruh you still can play E.T
Can we get an F in chat for Transformers WFC and FOC? Neither were made backwards compatible on Xbox/PS and when High Moon shut down the servers, so too were they removed from any digital stores.
Great video! Really love your content always but this one was fresh as heck!
Man, seeing City of Heores again is a mix of good memories and sadness.
City of Heroes Homecoming. Look into it. :)
12:20 the one Mario game where Bowser truly won and killed Mario
Gran Turismo 6 ought to be in a later list; Online services closed, and updates cannot install correctly due to some inexplicable problem.
I'm worried for stuff like iRacing or LoL, games that have been super important to the rise of Esports in their genre but are almost entirely an online service.
Sure, let's make a *temporary* digital video game to celebrate our IP's anniversary for *45 dollars.*
_Who in the fuck does that??_
It's such a literal waste.
I guess Microsoft doing something right in the video game market is rather... Rare!
Also, why would Nintendo make Mario's 35 anniversary title a temporary one? Even Sonic Team got that one right! You can still play 06!
you can not download it though
"Don't invest in Microsoft."
Wise words to live by.
The katamari damacy that used to be on iOS is unplayable now
13:09 I’ll tell you what they’d do, because they’ve done it before. They get them removed. There have a lot of Pokemon fan games that have been removed by Nintendo.
That Mario game was simlar to a online fan game too that vanished before mario 35 showed up.
Top five forced/scripted game overs
The worst thing to me about those Konomi games on Wiiware is that they had a good opportunity when they put out those colections a few years ago to get these games back out there as a final add on. I just hope that since they seem to like these collections that maybe a Rebirth collection might be in the cards.
I'm expecting to see Evolve, since you can only get it on disc now. Just missed the premiere :0
Also, that WiiWare water game was so good and I'm sad I can't finish it 😭
Get yourself the dolphin emulator and a wad of the water game.
Boom, go finish it now.
Contra ReBirth was the best Contra game I ever played, honestly. I thought it was amazing fun with two players. I still have it kicking around on an old Wii somewhere.
I was just wondering what had happened to that Project Spark. For some reason.
0:56 if only that was a copy of Sonic Colors Ultimate
Does it suck?
@@christopherhammond5142 It’s not awful but it’s a pretty shoddy remaster that’s a downgrade over the original, especially on Switch.
Not sure if it made the last list but for me MAG should be here. A game ahead of its time that I would love to see get a sequel
35 online forever would devalue that."
Me: DEEEEEFINITELY former EA: the man speaks their samey bullshit corporate lingo. That is LITERALLY the excuse an EA rep WOULD give! >.>
That City of Heroes/Villians scene in the intro. I miss those games
"Everything not saved will be lost"
-Nintendo Quit Screen Message
1:00 OHHHHH
Right in the feels.
I love the mvc2 track playing in the background
Title should be: 5 games you can't play anymore legally. because I found all these games...
Game developers wouldn't *dare* to announce to the public that they wanted to make or save money , so they just vaguely say that it's to celebrate an occasion, like Nintendo did.
