Swayzak's voice in the Rez review is so hot... IIRC, that was his voice in the Trapped in Hyperspace online game. I wish he could come back and confess his bottled feelings for Sara...
Hell yeah I remember him!!! Being honest, I started watching Toonami starting the first time Moltar from Space Ghost Ghost to Coast was the original MC of this classic TV anime/gaming block. When I clicked this link I fully expected to see Moltars spot-on 10 out of 10 review of Final Fantasy 7; not only my favorite game of all time but as a pre-teen felt my own positives and negatives of FF7 matched perfectly with my own honest praise and criticisms of that game. I personally think if they gave Moltar the lack of censorship and humor he showed from the late night SGCTC that he would have had the staying power to last until Toonami's original "last" podcast in 2008 before the much later restart. However, putting PG-13 Moltar in front of an audience that may have been as young as 7 or 8 and as old as 13; Moltar came across as uncharismatic and robotic. As an adult of 29 as of this very morning; I really respect the producers/creative staff for being able to predict that the censorship for a kids network at that time would allow Moltar to be a hit until they got canceled at the end of the season. As an adult I could easily inform the pre-1999 crew that Moltar done-right would cost them their jobs, but having the ability to deeply know what their market was at while prediciting where the market could go makes me give them the high rating I could ever give for foresight. That they did I originally didn't understand but that was to create a robotic-looking character who looked as futuristic as the new millenia would allow. The kicker is that Tom was the creative embodiment of the fanatic enjoyment that the creative staff had toward old school Japanese anime and modern gaming but with a robotic mask placed over the head to hide the passionate idea's and critics of the team who created him. Tom broke my initial hatred for him and won me over through the ingenious placement of "commercials" that were really inspirational messages for the young, new generation of manga/gaming fans; who saw their favorite anime characters/game characters as modern idols who they wished to mold themselves into whether they realized it or not. I'll always remember Tom's epic speech about anger. Unlike all of T.V and popular culture of that time; Tom told me that anger wasn't inherently "bad". In fact, when used correctly it could be a valuble tool if used correctly. He went on to compare these life "critiques" to the first major hit of anime in 1990's America; Dragonball Z. Tom explained that for the first time in my adolecent world...anger wasn't something to deny and hide. In the case of Piccilo; he shared that anger wasn't inherently a bad thing. In his case he used it to focus himself and use it as fuel to achieve his goals. But in the case of Vegeta, he let his hated consume him, falling short of his goals, letting the same trait that lead him to legendary fighting status ultimately consume him to falling short of his goals and staying mad forever.... I never forgot that chat "Tom" had with me in my 1990's living room and being honest it helped me get through my turbulent teens and ultimately help me achieve some of my adult goals. I can tell that the NEW TOONAMI" is helmed by the same team that created it as I believe that the revamped "Toonami" has even more epic "Tom's speeches" than the original ever had; especially judging from how much the times have changed. Tom's speeches reguarding "haters", "life" and "equalities" are videos that I plan to show my own kids with pride once I have them once they are old enough to understand and appreciate the message behind them. Toonami, you have a fan of over 15 years....stay who you are, stay true to what you want to say and most importantly KEEP KICKING ASS THE SAME WAY YOU HAVE SINCE I WAS A PREPUBESCENT YOU VISIONARY-GENIUS-JACKASSES YOU!!!
