Oh wow! This was my holy grail bike. I couldn't afford it, so I settled for the Moab AL 1. I still have it and ride it to this day! Thanks for the memories.
Just picked up a mint condition Schwinn homegrown at a local e state sale . And man am I happy I just came across your video . Loved it , will definitely be checking out more of your content
I had almost that same Homegrown about 20 years ago! Small frame, Rock Shock Psylo fork, XT group, Avid brakes. Traded it as partial down payment on my first car. Watching you ride, that bar is REALLY narrow by today’s standards.
schwinn was one of the great brands back in the 90s along with mongoose and huffy. just so sad they reduced down to walmart level. Jay Miron was one of my bmx heroes back then.
I used to have this same bike with a full XT groupset, WTB wheels with XT hubs, Hayes Mechanical disc, Eastton carbon bar, and a lot of other high end components I wish I never got rid of it. 😢
I still have my Schwinn homegrown. I remember racing it in 1998. I have all my fancy bikes now and I still have my homegrown the exact same rate you have.
I have a 4300 disc. I don't like the way the rear end looks, but the 31.8 seattube means I can use a dropper, which makes up for the ugliness and whacky geometry.
I never knew that the "Work Horse" XT was available on Schwinn bikes; nice👍👍. And I saw XT parallax hubs on what might be Mavic 517 SUP wheels🤘🤘. And that 7000 series aluminum Thomson Elite seat post🤘🤘
I remember walking into Richardson Bike Mart and seeing the gold anodized looking version of this bike right next to a new seven, and dreaming of owning them one day!
Lovely, This was an excellent version of Deore XT that came out, I did prefer these older chromey GS's, these V brakes were/ are awesome, just a great bike that is new enough to have proper suspension (that wasn't a flexistem)
I had this same bike in the 90s and raced it for a couple seasons. I loved it. I recently decided to buy this frame again and restore/mod it to a 1 x city cruiser. I’m wondering if you could share 1) what did you use to scrape of the details and 2) where did you find the replacement decals for it? Thanks!
I recently got to work on a new Schwinn bike, which was nowhere near as nice as this one in the video. Despite it's cheapness I still managed to make it work, somehow. It was one of those really cheap bikes at £154, for that money the person could have had a really decent used bike with much better quality frame and parts!
@Speedscholars With modern bikes having tapered headsets, a state like Utah where mtn biking is one of many outdoor sports is so popular, and 1.125" headsets not being used on higher end bikes, there's probably a large number of older mtn bikes and parts throughout the state. The Bicycle Collective just built a new location recently because they had expanded so much, which tells me alot of people donate alot of bikes and parts in that area.
i love the evolution of the channel. From resto modding everything with a 1x, wide bars and short stem to now restoring them to their original glory0-so much better!
Feels like the first time I've seen you use recreated decals in a long time - are you still making them yourself or do you buy them from somewhere? Also been curious - you used to make a lot of cool color schemes but stopped that a long time ago. Just too time consuming? Or trying to more authentically restore?
I would like to see you do an old early 90s cheap Walmart bike and turn it into something practical and cool just for the fun of it. Probably seems pointless but...
Thank you. I was wondering how you managed the perfect decals. I love your channel and am working on 90s bike using techniques I learned on your channel and the blue bike book from Park Tools.
Love the videos I like to get some money together and have you paint a fatboy Id say surprise me for the paint id trust this guy to do anything he's thinking that's for sure love his work 😅
Park tool is in it for the money plan and simple tools are sky high in price only people that keep them in business is bike shops and people that have deep pockets not that normal common manand ruined the bike ny putting them junk clip in pedals on it
Show me which bike tool company is in it for charity and not for the money? It's a business. Do you know of some charitable bike tool company? They also happen to make the best tools, every time I've tried to save money by buying the cheap stuff they end up stripping out. Now I go right to park tool. Also I'm not sure why the bike is ruined because he put clipless pedals on it..... These bikes came from the factory with clipless pedals. So I guess you think Schwinn ruined their own bike.
What a gem. I love older Schwinn bikes.

Magnificent work on this bicycle Mr. Oldshovel.Thank you for your videos.👍
The red pedals and grips give it the icing on the 🍰. Lovely build.

I remember drooling over the Homegrowns, especially the bass boat ones.
Wow, I love the color scheme. Almost everything is red. For me bikes look cool that way. 😊
Thank you for all the cool projects ❤. I love 80s-90s bikes.
Your restorations are fantastic. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Great build man.

Very nice build 👏👏
Sweet looking homegrown I’m glad you kept it close to stock as possible. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
I have a gen 1 converted to SS when that was all the rage, still a forever bike!
Great video!! Just wondering if you ever heard of a pinstripe eraser, it's a rubber wheel that attaches to a drill and removes stickers. cheers!!
Wow what a beautiful Red XC mashine😍👍🏻 it's just so perfect❤
Nice. I have one. I'm trying to figure out what to do with it! you're giving me ideas!
Another beautiful refresh! I am so jealous that you have those collectives in your area.
Another stunner!! Such a nice bike!!
i have learned alot from yr videos keep them coming from bonnie scotland😀
I used to have this same bike with a full XT groupset, WTB wheels with XT hubs, Hayes Mechanical disc, Eastton carbon bar, and a lot of other high end components

@@thegonger1 "The workhourse" XT 🤘🤘
I still have my Schwinn homegrown. I remember racing it in 1998. I have all my fancy bikes now and I still have my homegrown the exact same rate you have.
And that "wishbone" frame looks cool, too. My Trek 4300 is also a "wishbone"🤘🤘

Thank you for the Inspiration in your Videos.
Nice! Believe this one is made by Anodizing Inc. I have a 2001 HG comp! The one with the fancy seat stays. love it!
Beautiful build! Love those color combination. All red with some black parts. 😍❤❤❤🚴 Love to watch these bike build videos, so relaxing.
Nice build.. have a schwinn frame in the garage. I think its time to build it
Handsome bike. Cool pedals 👌🏻

Nice bike. Great job restoring it. Wondering if we will see any videos of giving new paint jobs on some of the bikes?

Parabéns por mais um belo trabalho! Tchau! 🇧🇷

Nice Video and Build
Wow this ended up being an amazing looking bike.
Black seat post and stem made the frame colour pop!
Love watching your restoration videos, was just wondering why you put coins down the handlebar grips before fitting them to the bars cheers.
stops the bars from piercing through the end of the grips if you drop the bike ;-)
Man has an endless supply of Chris King headsets, how?
Exactly what I thought!!! Are they cheaper in the US than the UK??
@@Speedscholarsno, I think they are around $200 USD all over the world. Lol, he puts them on every bike!
He has the advantage of being able to buy parts like that because of the Bicycle Collective in Salt Lake and Ogden.
@@johnnydoe66who gives that many away!!!

Me gustaría ver en tu canal una, Schwinn MOAB.
Rare Gem. Made by John Parker and the Durango Co. boys at Yeti. Thanks for sharing.
Some were made by Yeti, this one was not. This one was made by Anodizing Inc in Portland Oregon.
I have that fork but setup disc on a 95 trek 930. With 98 LX-XT drivetrain 27.5 swapped
That garmin color is so park tool 😂
Great video with a nice end result. If I may ask- What’s the product you used to recondition the saddle with?
I know it's a Thompson seat post but the raw aluminium one was so cool
And that 7075 aluminum Chris King headset🤘🤘
The last gasp of Schwinn.
Anyone attending the frame building bike show in Portland, OR in Aug?
We’d love to have y’all
A 2008 XT M770 crank would look Great on this bike🤘🤘

😢i miss the custon paint jobs u do can we get another vid soon? thnks
I used to own Schwinn Moab 3 steel frame
It’s funny this is the 4th bike that I also owned , beautiful, should be lighter then a lot of new bikes
I would like to see you do an old early 90s cheap Walmart bike and turn it into something practical and cool just for the fun of it. Probably seems pointless but...
I have a schwinn homegrown as well but most of my stickers are gone. Where can I find the sticker pack you used for yours?
The Schwinn Homegrown group on FB should know.
I still a 99 schwinn homegrown, that I don’t think I’ll get rid of
Do you ever sell these bikes?
You def❗️nitely have one cool channel🤘🤘
Remind me I have a 1994 Schwinn CrossFit 1998 Schwinn predator FW XS
TOP 😎😎😎😎🤙🤙🤙🤙🥇🥇🥇
did a company provide you with the Schwinn decals or did you make them with a Cricket machine?
These decals I got off someone on eBay
Thank you. I was wondering how you managed the perfect decals. I love your channel and am working on 90s bike using techniques I learned on your channel and the blue bike book from Park Tools.
Have a blue Moab full STX
Take that 160mm stem off. Cut out the middle. Weld it back together as a 50mm stem.
Why the wheel swap?
Is the bike aluminium or steel?
Alu
Please post a shout out to your EBay decal person
When ultrasonic cleaner in the workshop

Have you robbed Chris King warehouse?! Be honest!😅
