    I had to change my transmission fluid this weekend. This is not a flush, just a drain and refill. If you found this video helpful or would like help fund future experiments. please donate below.

    I agree with you: 150k interval is planned obsoletion by mfr. well at least they put a drain plug there and made this as easy as an oil change. Great video!
    In case anyone need this info, the torque specs of the drain plug are:
    106 in/lbs for four cylinder models (tranny model 6F35)
    80 in/lbs for V6 models (tranny model 6F50)

    212.000 miles and keep going .I do partial transmission fluid change so get oil extractor pump and one line from the dipstick and the other to the bucket. Get 4 quarts out and put 4 in .I change my transmissions fluid every 10.000 miles or 3 months. Having a lot of miles on the car the fresh oil keeps the transmission happy. Another thing to do is to change the filter on the transmission but keeping the fresh fluid it does the job.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I called Mr Transmission for a quote on flushing my transmission, $205.00 + tax here in Canada. They told me that they never do a complete flush and that they only do a fluid change just like you did. I asked why not a complete flush and they said they won't do it cause it may start slipping and they will not be responsible. Ford recommends to just change the fluid.. I will be changing the transmission fluid on my 2009 MKX 93,000 kilometers this week. Thanks again....Canada.

    Good info I’ve got a 2011 Taurus LTD same trans I couldn’t find any info on those two plugs you identified as drains I was reluctant to turn them until I was certain that’s what they were. I was scared if it was a drum adjuster I’d have it all out of wack if I heard a clunk on the inside; good to know my fluid has been changed once it’s not burnt but it’s dark and I don’t like that.

    Good job on this vid, thanks. Black fluid at 50K? Mine looks clear in my 012 EDGE (on the stick) at 74K. I think I need to drain/inspect it..btw, UA-cam vid ; ''Transmission fluid 3 time drain and fill on a 2012 Lincoln MKX'' at 100K Mi. Fluid was still dark after 3 time drain and fill , but owner ''did tow some''. After running 15 Qts. thru it, ''a few more changes'' were recommended. Another vid at 140K Mi showed the ''Dirty'' fluid coming out with a tinge of red in it. Nothing said about towing there..........or changing it again.....or, in either video, don't change it if it has never been changed after 100K or so Mi. ......I'm wondering how many times we should change it. What I'm getting out of some of these videos is keep changing it until it's color is acceptable, if you want the tranny to last.

      Every 50k mis plenty If done right & good quality fluids used! Motorcraft brand is synthetic an very good. Its lighter viscosity for driveline efficiency. Use proper fluid! Mercon or Mercon LV.

      @@Davido50 that's wrong ! Do NOT use LV fluid where it states to use Mercon V ! Mercon LV is "Low Viscosity" and is thin... too thin for this vehicle. The LV means low viscosity. Its fluid dude, it will turn dark even after a just a few miles. It's like oil. Heat breaks it down and doesn't care if you just baby your car. I change my oil in my 2011 flex every 5k and I change my trans fluid every 50k.

    • @ddaniels1800
      @ddaniels1800 2 роки тому

      If your transmission fluid gets dark after a few miles, there's something wrong. Unlike the oil in your engine, transmission fluid is a form of hydraulic pump fluid and extremely clean. It should not get dark for a long time. Engine oil gets dark much much faster because you have carbon build up the combustion chamber and the piston rings can't ever be tight enough to hold back that carbon from ignition of gas that get into the oil under the piston. A transmission doesn't have this. And that's why it takes a long time for transmissions to turn dark.

    I guess people don't really understand that they want the vehicle to break down. Selling parts is where the money lies. The recommended scheduled maintenance is always bogus IF you're trying to keep a car into the upper life span of 10, 15, or 20 years.

      the manual saying 10q if you get all the fluid from transmission but when you drain it, almost 4q will stay at differential. You will need special tools to take all the fluid out. Or you can drain it and put the fluid then turn ur vehicle with shifting the gears then you drain it again, in this way you will get the old fluid from the differential too.
