SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.
Thank you for posting! I like that you left the 30 seconds in.
Thanks for these! I prefer the numbers rounds over letters.
Thank you so much for the upload!
19:54 Friday, first round (914):
4 AWAY (918)
50 / 25 = 2
100 + 2 = 102
5 + 4 = 9
102 * 9 = 918
21:12 Friday, second round (499):
100 * 5 = 500
500 - 10 + 9 = 499
22:06 Friday, third round (330):
5 * 2 = 10
100 + 10 = 110
75 / 25 = 3
3 * 110 = 330
23:26 Friday, fourth round (400):
4 * 100 = 400 😀
or using all the numbers (as Rachel suggested)
10 / 2 = 5
8 - 5 = 3
100 * 3 = 300
25 * 4 = 100
300 + 100 = 400
Lol I complicated the 330 one. I did 75+5+2 * 100 =8200+50 8250/25 =330
@@Qari256 My term for that is "divebomber" -- get big number, use division to get in range 😂
I’m in a countdown tournament right now and the numbers are my weaker rounds, so these have been a big help for practice, thanks tor uploading!!!
The first game of the day I can’t believe no one realised it was 300-63 so you say (8/2*75)-(9*7)
2:48 I don't know my 11 times tables as high as that, maybe I should learn them...
It's the 75 times table you need help with.
You don’t need to learn your times tables… I’m sure Rachel knows that if the difference between the sum of the hundreds and ones digits and the middle digit is either 0 or 11, the entire number is divisible by 11. That is, for 836, 8+6-3 = 11, therefore 836 is a multiple of 11.
For the last one.
8 * 2 = 16 + 10 = 26 - 25 = 1 * 4 * 100 = 400
I dunno , but my brain .... 🤔😬🔕👍
i did the 315 way more challenging within the time, not the easy road, hurray for a challenge
100-75-10 = 15 & (6+1)*3 = 21 and 15*21 = 315
I didn’t use all the numbers on that last one but I did find a way to use four of them. 8 / 2 = 4; 25 x 4 = 100; 4 x 100 = 400.
As someone who doesn't regularly watch this version of Countdown, but rather the 8 Out of 10 Cats one, hearing Rachel getting away with saying "4 large to finish the day, that's what I like" without anyone remarking on it just feels wrong
i did 949: 50-9-3 = 38 x 25 = 950 - 8 + 7 = 949
14:19 "Four large to finish the day, that's what I like" - Oh Rachel.
400
100 x 4 = 400
Fantastic, you've just solved one of the easiest Countdown Numbers games we've ever seen :D
24:41 Alright, let's use all the numbers then.
100×2=200
25×4=100
10-8=2
100×2=200
200+200=400
I did it a different way:
8*2=16, 25-16=9, 10-9=1, 1*4*100=400.
237 is also 75 + (9-10) + (8*(7+2))
Friday:
914
1 above
100 + 5 = 105
50 * 4 = 200
200 / 25 = 8
105 * 8 = 840
840 + 75 = 915
499
5 * 100 = 500
500 - 10 + 9 = 499
100 + 25 = 125
125 * 4 = 500
500 - 10 + 9 = 499
5 * 4 = 20
25 * 20 = 500
500 - 10 + 9 = 499
330
5 * 2 = 10
100 + 10 = 110
75 / 25 = 3
110 * 3 = 330
100 / 50 = 2
75 * 2 = 150
150 * 2 = 300
300 + 25 + 5 = 330
100 * 2 = 200
200 + 75 + 50 + 5 = 330
400
4 * 100 = 400
100 - 2 = 98
98 * 4 = 392
392 + 8 = 400
All small
8 + 2 = 10
10 * 10 = 100
100 * 4 = 400
10:33 Wednesday, first round (949):
25 - 9 + 3 = 19
50 * 19 = 950
950 - 8 + 7 = 949
11:57 Wednesday, second round (412):
75 * 6 = 450
100 / 25 = 4
4 * 3 = 12
450 - 50 + 12 = 412
13:00 Wednesday, third round (722):
1 AWAY (723)
4 + 1 = 5
7 * 7 * 5 = 245
245 - 4 = 241
241 * 3 = 723
14:19 Wednesday, fourth round (160):
5 * 2 = 10
100 + 50 + 10 = 160
Fun one (I think) for 953.
7+7+5 = 19
19x100 = 1900
1900 + 6 = 1906
1906/2 = 953
00:00 Monday, first round (237):
75 * 2 = 150
10 * 8 = 80
150 + 80 + 7 = 237
01:18 Monday, second round (836):
75 + 1 = 76
10 + 1 = 11
76 * 11 = 836
02:51 Monday, third round (962):
10 + 9 = 19
50 * 19 = 950
950 + 9 + 3 = 962
03:57 Monday, fourth round (203):
25 * 8 = 200
200 + 4 - 1 = 203
Countdown is not just a numbers game.
For the 773.
(7×100) +( (8×8)+9).
I think that was less confusing than Rachael's method.
867:
(3 x 75) + (7 x 10) - 6 =289
289 x 3 = 867
953:
100 + (7 x 5) = 135 x 7 = 945 + 6 + 2 = 953
23:33 I need to clip this for the "Countdown Easiest Numbers" bloopers. Yep, it really is that easy.
No need to write it down, save the ink.
It will happen. Do wait for one where it happens TWICE 😂 (yet to see it)
Haha, 100 x 4... genius! Never have I heard Rachel react like that!
She's done it, but it is rather rare. Colin's reax was priceless as well 🤣
04:57 Tuesday, first round (867):
1 AWAY (868)
75 + 10 = 85
7 + 3 = 10
85 * 10 = 850
6 * 3 = 18
850 + 18 = 868
06:28 Tuesday, second round (773):
1 AWAY (774)
100 * 7 = 700
700 + 75 - 9 + 8 = 774
08:00 Tuesday, third round (953):
1 AWAY (954)
100 + 6 = 106
7 + 2 = 9
106 * 9 = 954
09:31 Tuesday, fourth round (315):
100 * 3 = 300
300 + 10 + 6 - 1 = 315
867 wasn't that bad Rachel! 10x75=750, 6x7-3=39x3=117 to add on
412 is 6x50/75 = 4 & 100+3 = 103 and so 4*103 = 412
499
100 x 5 = 500
10 - 9 = 1
500 - 1 = 499
315=3×100+10+6-1=3×75+100-10=(6+1)×(75-3×10)=(6+3)×(100+10-75)
For 733
100 - (8 + 7) = 85
85 x 9 = 765 + 8 = 773
773=100+9×(75-8/8)+7
315
100 x 3 = 300
10 + 6 = 16
16 - 1 = 15
300 + 15 = 315
Using all the numbers
100/25=4
4 * 8=32
2 * 4=8
32+8=40
40 * 10=400
I got 100*10 = 1000, 25*4 = 100, 8-2 = 6. 100*6 = 600, 1000-600 = 400.
160
50 - (2 x 5) = 40
40 x 100 = 4000
4000 / 25 = 160
867 10×75=750 6+7=13 3×3=9×13=117 +750=867
330
(2 x 5) + 100 = 110
75 / 25 = 3
3 x 110 = 330
135
(75 + 50) / 25 = 5
5 x 7 = 35
100 + 35 =135
Was totally blind to the easier method
203=8×25+4-1=(25+1)×8-4-1=(8/4×25+1)×4-1
400 (all the numbers)
((4 / 2) + 8) x 10 x 100 = 10000
10000 / 25 = 400
The last one , indeed .... 🤔🥶🤯☠👻👽🤬

Nice. I found another way that starts out the same but uses all the numbers:
10 + 9 = 19
19 x 3 = 57
50 + 57 = 107
107 x 9 = 963
963 - 1 = 962
160
100 + 50 = 150
2 x 5 = 10
150 + 10 = 160
Can't be bothered with the "6 small" or "4 large" rounds. The contestants may think they're showing off but for the average viewer it's too difficult to try and results in boring TV.
There were times where I liked 4 large, but to be honest I've gone off them LOL I absolutely loathe 6 small rounds.
I was getting a little fed up of all the 4 large or 6 small as well tbh
And the guy who chose six small ones didn't get not even close to the target. Sometimes you don't get to it but we expect them to get real close.
I'm sure some choose those just to throw off their opponents. Just like when you are winning and choose 2 large numbers because they are easy.
See, I am no good at 4 large or 6 small, but I really like these selections being chosen as it makes it way more interesting than a bog-standard 1 large or 2 large.
Monday Countdown
In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these solutions:
75 x 2 = 150
10 x 8 = 80
150 + 80 + 7 = 237
8 / 2 = 4
75 x 4 = 300
9 x 7 = 63
300 - 63 = 237
In the second round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had this one I expected to occur to one of the contestants:
75 - 1 - 1 = 73
73 x 10 = 730
730 + 100 + 6 = 836
In the third round, I saw Tony's solution, and I also had this:
50 + 3 + 1 = 54
9 + 9 = 18
54 x 18 = 972
972 - 10 = 962
Plus, I'm not sure how Seán got 963, but the one way I saw leaves the 1 to take away:
10 + 9 = 19
19 x 3 = 57
57 + 50 = 107
107 x 9 = 963
963 - 1 = 962
If that's the way they did it, then that would be heartbreaking.
In the fourth numbers round, I saw the contestants' solution, but also had this one from factoring (29 x 7 = 203):
25 + 4 = 29
8 - 1 = 7
29 x 7 = 203
And I also had these:
25 x 4 = 100
100 + 1 = 101
8 / 4 = 2
101 x 2 = 202
202 + 1 = 203
25 - 8 = 17
4 - 1 = 3
17 x 3 = 51
51 x 4 = 204
204 - 1 = 203
Tuesday Countdown
In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution, and I also had this one based on factoring: (17^2 x 3 = 867):
75 x 3 = 225
10 x 7 = 70
70 - 6 = 64
225 + 64 = 289
289 x 3 = 867
I tried coming up with 51 x 17, because of the 10 and 7 there, but there wasn't any way I could find to make that work.
However, I also had these:
10 x 7 = 70
75 + 70 = 145
145 x 6 = 870
870 - 3 = 867
75 x 10 = 750
7 + 6 = 13
13 x 3 x 3 = 117
750 + 117 = 867
In the second round, the contestant was agnozingly close to the right answer. She would have had it if she had only done this:
75 + 9 = 84
84 x 8 = 672
672 + 100 = 772
8 - 7 = 1
772 + 1 = 773
And I also had the following related solutions:
100 + 7 = 107
107 x 8 = 856
856 - 75 - 8 = 773
9 - 7 = 2
8 - 2 = 6
100 + 6 = 106
106 x 8 = 848
848 - 75 = 773
In the third round, I had Rachel's solution. However, I got it within 30 seconds along with this related one:
7 x 5 = 35
100 + 35 = 135
135 x 7 = 945
945 + 6 + 2 = 953
Another solution was:
7 + 6 = 13
13 x 7 = 91
100 + 91 = 191
191 x 5 = 955
955 - 2 = 953
And I had this from considering the fact that the 100 and 6 were twice what I wished them to be:
7 + 7 + 5 = 19
100 x 19 = 1900
1900 + 6 = 1906
1906 / 2 = 953
In the final round, I saw the contestants' solution, and also simplified it with:
6 - 1 = 5
100 + 5 = 105
105 x 3 = 315
However, I also had some more materially different solutions, like:
3 + 1 = 4
10 x 6 x 4 = 240
240 + 75 = 315
10 x 3 = 30
75 - 30 = 45
6 + 1 = 7
45 x 7 = 315
100 + 75 = 175
175 x 6 = 1050
1050 x 3 = 3150
3150 / 10 = 315
Wednesday Countdown
In the first round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had this related one:
50 - 9 - 3 = 38
38 x 25 = 950
8 - 7 = 1
950 - 1 = 949
But I also had this different alternative:
50 + 8 = 58
25 - 9 = 16
58 x 16 = 928
7 x 3 = 21
928 + 21 = 949
In the second round, I saw Dan's solution, but also had these:
75 x 3 = 225
225 + 6 = 231
231 - 25 = 206
100 / 50 = 2
206 x 2 = 412
100 + 3 = 103
50 / 25 = 2
6 - 2 = 4
103 x 4 = 412
100 + 3 = 103
103 x 50 = 5150
5150 x 6 = 30900
309000 / 75 = 412
The last is a bit of a cheat, because all I was doing was using the ratio of 50 / 75 to turn 6 into 4.
In the third round, I saw Rachel's solution for 723 but it's the only one.
In the fourth round, I saw the contestants' solution, but I also had these:
75 + 5 = 80
80 x 2 = 160
5 x 2 = 10
50 - 10 = 40
100 / 25 = 4
40 x 4 = 160
50 + 2 = 52
75 x 52 = 3900
3900 + 100 = 4000
4000 / 25 = 160
100 + 5 + 2 = 107
107 x 75 = 8025
8025 - 25 = 8000
8000 / 50 = 160
Thursday Countdown
In the first round, I saw both contestants' solutions, but if you want a fancy solution you can do this:
50 - 6 = 44
100 x 44 = 4400
4400 - 75 = 4325
4325 / 25 = 173
Since 100 / 25 is 4 and 75 / 25 is 3, it's the equivalent of (50 - 6) x 4 - 3 = 173.
In the second round, I saw both contestants' solution, but also had this one from factoring (67 x 7 x 2 = 938):
6 x 6 = 36
100 + 36 = 136
136 - 2 = 134
8 - 1 = 7
134 x 7 = 938
And I also had this:
2 + 1 = 3
6 x 3 = 18
100 + 18 = 118
118 x 8 = 944
944 - 6 = 938
In the third round, I saw Dan's solution, but also had these:
25 - 6 = 19
19 x 7 = 133
100 / 50 = 2
133 + 2 = 135
50 - 7 = 43
75 / 25 = 3
43 x 3 = 129
129 + 6 = 135
75 + 50 = 125
125 / 25 = 5
7 x 5 = 35
100 + 35 = 135
And finally this fancy solution:
50 - 6 = 44
75 x 44 = 3300
3300 - 100 = 3200
3200 / 25 = 128
128 + 7 = 135
Again, 75 / 25 = 3 and 100 / 25 = 4, so it's equivalent to (50 - 6) x 3 - 4 + 7 = 135.
In the final round, I had Rachel's solution for one-below as well as this one:
9 x 5 = 45
45 - 6 = 39
39 x 7 x 3 = 819
And I had this for 1 above:
6 x 3 = 18
18 + 5 = 23
23 x 9 x 4 = 828
828 - 7 = 821
Friday Countdown
In the first numbers round, I had a few solutions for 915:
50 / 25 = 2
4 x 2 = 8
100 + 75 + 8 = 183
183 x 5 = 915
100 + 5 = 105
50 / 25 = 2
105 x 4 x 2 = 840
840 + 75 = 915
50 - 4 = 46
100 x 46 = 4600
4600 - 25 = 4575
4575 / 5 = 915
This last is based on the fact that 100 / 5 = 20 and 25 / 5 is 5, so it's the equivalent of (50 - 4) x 20 - 5 = 915.
In the second round, I saw the contestants' solution, but if you wanted to use all of the numbers, you could do this:
100 + 25 = 125
125 - 5 = 120
120 x 4 = 480
480 + 10 + 9 = 499
There's not really any point in finding more solutions for such an easy target, though.
In the third round, I saw Rachel's solution, and few more ways out of the million to do it are:
5 x 2 = 10
100 + 10 = 110
75 / 25 = 3
110 x 3 = 330
75 - 5 = 70
100 / 25 = 4
70 x 4 = 280
280 + 50 = 330
75 / 5 = 15
100 + 50 + 15 = 165
165 x 2 = 330
100 + 75 = 175
50 / 5 = 10
175 - 10 = 165
165 x 2 = 330
75 + 5 + 2 = 82
100 x 82 = 8200
8200 + 50 = 8250
8250 / 25 = 330
The logic of the above solution is that since I'm dividing by 25, 100 is equivalent to 4 and 50 to 2, so it's functionally the same as (75 + 5 + 2) x 4 + 2 = 330.
Again, the fourth round isn't really worth doing, but for the sake of doing something this is my solution using all of the numbers:
25 x 2 = 50
100 / 50 = 2
8 + 2 = 10
10 x 10 x 4 = 400
949
50 - 9 - 3 = 38
25 x 38 = 950
950 + 7 - 8 = 949
773 100+8=108×7=756 +8+9=773
203 8-1=7 25+4=29×7=203
Thursday:
173
50 / 25 = 2
100 + 75 - 2 = 173
100 + 75 - 6 + 4 = 173
100 / 50 = 2
75 - 2 = 73
25 * 4 = 100
100 + 73 = 173
938
8 + 1 = 9
9 * 100 = 900
6 * 6 = 36
900 + 36 + 2
6 * 6 = 36
36 - 2 = 34
100 + 34 = 134
8 - 1 = 7
134 * 7 = 938
6 + 1 = 7
8 * 7 = 56
100 + 56 = 156
156 * 6 = 936
936 + 2 = 938
135
75 - 50 = 25
25 / 25 = 1
6 - 1 = 5
7 * 5 = 35
100 + 35 = 135
50 + 25 = 75
75 / 75 = 1
6 - 1 = 5
7 * 5 = 35
100 + 35 = 135
100 / 25 = 4
75 + 50 + 6 + 4 = 135
820
1 above
6 * 5 = 30
9 * 30 = 270
270 * 3 = 810
810 + 7 + 4 = 821
1 below
6 * 5 = 30
30 + 9 = 39
39 * 7 = 273
273 * 3 = 819
