Loving the series. Awesome to see a home restoration with so much attention to detail. This thing will be fully sorted, safe and look the business when it's done. looking forward to the next installment.
Thank you so much! I appreciate all of the support!
"You don't have friends that are into cars." Bro, you got us!
Thanks!
Shows that you don't have to be rich too get into the hobby. 👍
You are making good progress!
You have made so much progress! Removing the paint sure shows everything an almost 60 year old car has been through! I thought you were going to chase the oil canning all the way across the back of the car!
Thanks! I thought so too, lucky it was only 3 spots haha.
Loving the progress! Congrats! Hard work is def paying off.
Thank you!
it has been my dream to restore 65 mustang since you started restoring it
Hey Man ! I used urethane 2k High build primer & paint on my 68 Mustang Coupe, for the Money u can't beat it ! 6 years she looks as good as the day I painted it, I do keep it under a carport covered up maybe that's why who knows ! Good Luck ! ✌
Thanks!
If you have some external chrome trims from where the vinyl roof finishes at the hip line of the rear fender, then could you reinstall these as a cover over any possible future cracking at that point? Just a thought on cracking and ignore me if this seems a bit weird. You have done such a good job of correcting previous damage control and I share your concern over cracking.
Man, that car is solid. Talk about no rust. I’d just shoot it with clear and be done with it. 😅That lead could’ve been removed with your torch and a brush. Awesome work. You are someone who can figure things out and not be intimidated by the unknown.
Thanks so much for the support!
Love the video of this mustang , I am glad you post a new one I was wondering about it since last video! I can't for the completed (video) .
I wanted to add that , my thoughts, maybe you should add some form of tech to mustang since spending so much time with it ! Tech being gps tech so you don't lose the mustang to criminials ! Google maps kind of gps monitor !? LOL . I noticed the doors don't have or does? Mirrors , to view back of mustang , are you going to get some kool side mirrors !?
Check it maybe the next project you should consider would be a series on fixing your garage since many projects tend to mess things up , so a series videos of restoration of your garage and the many tools you have used for this mustang and others !?
Over all your series is great and you should show case this mustang in some competition , You should get first price man! Place the series of videos of this mustang to the smithsonian musesum of motor vehicles! Too ford mustang is a great car !
Can’t wait for the next video of your progress .
It's coming soon!
Great job on fixing that door!! looks great now.
Thanks!
Looks like the original color was Poppy Red maybe. My uncle has a 65' mustang that is the same color.
The cars lookin great.👍👍👍
Nice to see your progess. I've heard that sine the mirros were dealer installed that not all dealer were good at how the positioned them in terms of letting the wing windows open. CJ Pony has a video on replacing the side mirror and talks about where it should be. Passengers mirrors were dealer options or often self installed and could vary greatly from correct to generic mirrors. Nice to see you using just normal tools from places like HomeDepot and Harbor Freight showing the average Joe's can do this.
I've built many gen 1 Mustangs. 1. They are almost 60 years old. 2. Fit and finish wasn't that great to begin with. Your gaps are fine. Good work! Once I finish the two cars on my channel I intend to do another 66 Mustang like my first car. Love the vids.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the support.
how all is well, looking to see your finished product. I'm working on Cowl now and then on to body work..
Hey Robby! Yeah everything has been going well. Just been busy with family vacation and travel for work. More videos are on the way real soon! It's getting so close to being finished. Are you replacing the cowl? If so, that seems like an intense process with so many spot welds to drill out and tack back down, but will definitely be totally worth it! I got lucky with mine not being in bad shape.
@@VanHoutenBuilds Yes, I'm heading that way now. Trying to get my channel up and going to video, but I usually get working and forget to hit record. haha. Can't wait to see your progress. I did my floors the way you did. after cowl is done, we dropping motor in for first start in over 15 years.
@@PistonWrenchCycle Thanks great! Yeah I feel like recording it all is the hardest most daunting part haha
Nice progress! Can you weld that roof seam from the inside? Your car has quite the story to tell with all those repairs. Thanks for showing the lower rear quarter panel and crack behind the rear driver side window. I have almost exactly the same damage.
Spent time with my 68 yesterday after its sat for a few weeks. No spark. Replaced most of the related components, but still nothing. It must be a wire somewhere. Good times.
Unfortunately I can't weld it from the inside, because it's not part of the inner structure. I'll figure something out for it though haha. I was having the same problem, no spark, then I put in an electronic ignition and did away with the points. It fired right up. Maybe try cleaning off your points first to see if you get spark. Use a spark tester, start at the ignition coil and work your way through the system.
@@VanHoutenBuilds I did the same thing on our classic Mini. Ditched the points. For an electronic dizzy. I’m about there on the Mustang!
@@mrennick Nice! A mini is on the top of my list. I would love to restore and own a vintage one some day!
@@HunterVanHouten Classic Minis are just as awesome as you would think they are. Huge fun. There is also a great community of owners and parts are available.
The piece that you are talking about welding in under the finder just clips into that squire opening.
Have you tried aircraft stripper on some of that gummy original paint on the cowl and other areas? When it doesn't come off well with wire brush etc. I've had good luck with aircraft. Stripper.
By the way, you're freaking killing it. Your skill set is very impressive and loving how the mustang is turning out. This has become one of my favorite car channels because it's so real and authentic
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the support! I did try aircraft stripper, didn't show it though. It was a bit too messy for me, so I decided to go the other route.
Great job, someone who has been there can really appreciate all the time and effort in what you have done. Just a thought, the bracket on the bottom of your fender should really be welded back since it's a unibody design you might have a flex issue because the car will flex differently because it's not a full frame and it might break your weld that you did making the fender pop out on the bottom. That's why it has a bolt to connect to the front of the car. Keep up the great work makes me think of the many hours I worked on my 67 mustang convertible.
@@VanHoutenBuildsyou inspired me to dig out my 68 mustang from winter storage today. 47 degrees and sunny here in Utah today so going cruising. Keep the great content coming! Excited to watch your amazing progress 😎👍
@@meek01__53 Thanks! Yeah I'll end up welding the bolt bracket back on if my weld breaks at the base of the fender.
@@motocyclemaverick That's awesome! I can't wait to actually be able to drive my mustang around soon!
Getting close on it. Maybe you’ll get to drive it around town in a month or so. I see your probably getting burned out on it
So close! No not burned out at all, just been dealing with some serious family stuff lately so I haven't had as much time and also haven't felt up to doing much of anything lately. Definitely planning on having the painting finished in the next month. The weather's also put a damper on things since I don't have a climate controlled space. Just waiting for the humidity to drop and for it to warm up to 70 degrees. We been getting so much rain and cool weather in SoCal the last several months that garage has even been flooding, which is pretty unheard of.
The vacuum attachment can be purchased where?
It's a milwaukee vacuum attachment kit. www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/wet-dry-vacuums/wetdry-vacuum-parts-and-accessories/2020611?x429=true&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqdqvBhCPARIsANrmZhNuAsoQPk-9pkFtuvdG8ZBWptx9rWvHt8-ntxvDyvtkbAecDrocCigaApimEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Thanks, a very nice option. I don't need will make a note of this product.@@VanHoutenBuilds
I got a 1991 Acura Integra with a B series swap.
What color is the going to be?
Caspian Blue!
Dont forget the headliner is held in by the front and rear glass
Definitely! I'm going to have to find the inner headliner bow rods if I go with the traditional headliner. Was also thinking about maybe doing to 1 piece headliner instead, but it's so much more expensive. We'll see how I'm feeling after I finish painting haha.
@@VanHoutenBuilds actually the one piece is almost as cheap as a factory still headliner, around $500. It doesn’t use the front and rear glass to hold it in
so much progress!. that piece you were talking about for the fender is a nut that fits up into the rocker panel that the lower part of the fender attaches to. you can get replacement ones from CJ pony. i saw a video where someone bent them to fit and stay better. personally I'm planning to tack weld them in place on both sides. car is looking good. i have some patches i have to make on mine as well and a similar crack along the back sail panel (hopefully just from body filler from previous body work that was done) are you doing a full headliner while you have your windows out? speaking of windows out I'm surprised you aren't taking the door and back side windows out before painting (or maybe you will) did you do a decode of your tag to see original color. in 65 there were two reds. rangoon red and another. i recall rangoon because that's why mine was originally as well (but not going back to it either) keep at it! looking forward to see the painting process and how it turns out for you man. you should look into getting involved with a car club of some sort , I'm sure there are some out there to give you that car comradery!
Thanks Alan! I really appreciate the support. Yeah I'm planning on putting a new headliner in before reinstalling the front and back glass. Just trying to decide if I'm going to do a 1 piece headliner or not. I'm probably just going to leave the window glass in the car, roll them all the way down and mask them off. Yeah I decoded the tag, mine was built in April of 65 and was originally Rangoon Red. I'm going to most likely paint it Caspian Blue and maybe do white racing stripes. Yeah once it's on the road I'll start looking around for some local car clubs, I know there's got to be a ton of them in SoCal.
