Great video brother. These lovebugs are driving us crazy! Haha. We gotta get away for a bit... but we have a plan. Check your Instagram messages and join us... SHALL YOU?! Haha Much love bro. -Your Pal Al
The desert inn was my intro to you Adam. I drive past is every month on the way to visit my mom. I UA-cam it and there you were! Anyway I actually had a really weird dream where you owned and operated the Desert Inn.
I'm 60 Years old, And live in Okeechobee, And i can remember when Kenansville was thriving. I still have friends that live there. The Desert Inn was a WILD place in The 1960s. The name didn't come from People riding burros there! The Name came from The guy that kept a lot of Jack Asses. Hence, The name Jack Ass Jct. My Dad and Grandad hung out there. When The turnpike was extended from FT. Pierce, They couldn't use The Name, So it became Yee Haw Jct because of the sound the Jack asses made. It closed down recently. The Railroad followed the route of present day 441 from Okeechobee to Kissimmee.
When did they shut down the restaurant? I always loved stopping there in the 70s & 80s as a kid. We'd always stop to gas up and have lunch in the restaurant, i remember i always loved playing with all the little gadgets they had laying around in the restaurant.
My Grand Father moved to Keenan's ville back in the 70s. I spent lots of vacations there from michigan. My parents later inherited it from him. I knew a man Paul Tabor who helped rebuild the school there in the 80s. He was a very skilled wood worker who Loved to give his time & knowledge to fix up the school. Yee haw junction was a cool place. Went there many times too. Keenan's ville used to have water about 1 to 2 feet deep there where all the mobile homes are back in the 50s. I learned that from the locals there. It is a flood plane area around lake Marianne. The man that told me about it said he used to canoe around there as a kid. When florida drained the everglades the water levels dropped creating usable land for the community.
Thank you for sharing all these great destinations of the roads less traveled for those of us who will probably never see them in person. You rock Adam!
I love and appreciate all of your videos, Adam. This type of video, however, is my absolute favorite. TY for showing us all of these places off the beaten track. 👏🏻👏🏻
it is such a shame that so much history has just faded away in so many words but it is so nice that you go and find these places to share---thanks so much
I live down the road from Yeehaw Junction and the Desert Inn...semi-truck ran right into this few weeks ago. I drove by it week ago, crying shame this roadside legend has been ruined.
here's a little information for you about small little building on the side of the road that belong to AT&t and that was used for a long distance telephone lines in the old coax systems they had in the 50s and the 60s. my dad used to work on those systems out there and he used to replace and repair amplifiers for the old coax systems
Adam I love your simple quiet videos like this sometimes. You view of time and life amazes me. You are a true artist who sees the things in life we should appreciate. Love this video. Thank you for sharing, and exploring for us. The Millers from Florida 👍❤️
Thank you for these awesome videos! My wife and I live in Miami, but when we go to Orlando, we travel through U.S. 27 to see the roads less traveled. Being from a crowded city it's nice to see small towns every once in a while. Keep up the great work!!
Loved that Dragon street lamp.... I just LOVE it when you travel the back roads and show us true history. It was the small towns that made the country great.
I wish I had gotten to stay at the Desert Inn while it was still open. I hope and pray that one day it'll reopen for us to enjoy for another generation.
I'm loving your adventures Adam! Thx for taking us to places like this! 😊I love to travel and see these out of the way places! Better than the well known places IMO.
I was in that bar in April 1979, and I had a big ice cold can of Budweiser on a 93'F morning at 11:30 am. I was down there on vacation from Toronto and travelling up the turnpike to visit Orlando. The Desert Bar and Inn was a MAGICAL place. I will always miss it. PARADISE...Florida style...
I'm really enjoying these Lost Roadside History Tours. Some rather thought provoking content. Thanx for sharing these views of lesser-known areas with us. Looking forward to the next one. Take care.
Went to desert inn first time 1973 for my first mothers day...there were donkeys EVERYWHERE!!! they had the cutest donkey Tshirts...back then there were cows n gators everywhere..before the rat took over Fla
Yeehaw Junction. Hwy 60. Not that long ago the drive from,Lake Wales FL to the Junction you, would encounter hardly any vehicles. It truly was a lonesome highway. I Loved it .
@@jmautobrokers6568I remember how isolated it could be at night. Now with more homes along the way. Traffic has picked up. But I still enjoy the trip. Stay safe
My mother lived in Kenansville for over 30 years, her & my father bought a place there for $25 a month back in the 60s. They come down to Fl. every winter to fish on Lake Marion, after he passed away Mom moved down there full time. She lived on the corner of the highway & Myrtle street & had a p.o. box at the old post office for years! There use to be a great place to eat on highway at the corner where you turned to go down to the lake, great gator, catfish, turtle, & shrimp. There use to be a small little diner about halfway to Yeehaw Junction on the left that served all you could eat fried lobster it was fantastic. Daddy helped build the addition on the Church of God in Kenansville! The story I heard about Elvis was he was traveling from one gig in south Fl. & went by the old heartbreak hotel & that's where he got the idea for his song. I don't know whether it's true or not but that's what the old timers said. There use to be an newspaper article in a frame in the old hotel for years.
I've been to Florida on a number of occasions and knew there was more there than the Everglades, Miami / Beach, Tampa, Daytona, the Keys, Boca Raton and Disney World. Thanks for the "off the beaten path" tour. You know it's a good video when you get The Woo's Wide World of Wild Animals! Cows, especially. There's something calming about how cows laze about.
Hi Adam 🙋. I'm really glad that you did this video before it was destroyed.as Yes Adam people actually do eat cactus. merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family.😀🖐🏼💙
I used to pass the Desert Inn on my drives between Tampa and Boca a few years back but I never stopped there. Thanks for showing all of this, Adam. Your Florida videos always make me nostalgic for a state I already live in.
Adam I’ was born and raised in Stuart,Fl.Not to far from Port Saint Lucie ,where you did the Devil Tree video.I live in Saint Augustine Fl.Hope all is well.
Ate there once. Coming back home from Lake Wales after volunteering for some hurricane cleanup after Hurricane Charley. I live in Vero and VERY FAMILIAR with Jackass Crossing. There’s a private residence in Vero that you NEED to visit, it’s RIGHT up your alley and would make an incredible vlog. This dudes story needs to be told! His home’s INCREDIBLE! I have some photos of the outside, who knows what’s on the inside. It’s SO WELL done, his idea of decorating is A1, a folk art masterpiece if you will.
I used to live there with my papa, he was an funny old man but I loved him. The house i lived in, he built himself with his own two hands. I miss living out there
I can remember eating at the Desert Inn when I was a little kid. They had spiders, mice and other cool thing attached to strings that ran to the bar. One time they lowered a spider on a table and the lady screamed and spilled her drink in her lap...lol...she was pissed!! She stormed off to the bathroom and when she opened the door they had a life size, half dressed, Indian standing there. She screamed and hollered and stormed out the door. The whole place was in a uproar....good times! Dinner and a show!
Quite a few love bugs here too. Bugs with no personal space boundaries. Up your nose, in your glasses. Makes mowing the lawn a bit of a challenge. 🐞😒 Thanks for braving the bugs to share with us! Have a lovely day!
